Easter, Family, kiddies

After last week and all the sickness that flooded through here, I was looking forward to a long weekend of well and happy people and, for the most part, I got it – yay!

D was still a bit off his game so on Thursday night and Friday, G and I got to spend some very rare quality time together while M went to Nana’s for the night. We headed to D’s sister’s house Friday afternoon for an early egg hunt and play time with the cousins, then to my Dad’s house for salt fish and brewis, my favourite!

Saturday was our regular crazy day – gymnastics for G, groceries, gymnastics for M, finish errands, and by that time the day is over! Not too hard to get the kiddies in bed though – they knew the Easter Bunny was coming (M did try to stay awake to see him!).

That Easter Bunny is pretty smart and left new Series 6 Lego men and sticker books outside their bedroom doors which meant M and G could curl up in our bed at 6:30 rather than drag us downstairs at that early hour! Finally though, the excitement couldn’t be contained and they took off. I have to say, they were super good at finding their treats and at sharing them. If M saw two chocolates together, she took one and called G over for his. Of course, they had a few other things like colouring books and tiny toys mixed in too.

After the great hunt, we headed to the Bagel Cafe for breakfast as a treat – M loves to eat breakfast in a restaurant – and the kiddies got free Easter pancakes, chocolate with mini eggs baked in!

We had a lazy afternoon, something we never get around here, then headed to my mom’s house for ham dinner.  By the time we got the kiddies home and in bed, it was 9:30, way, way, waaaaay past their bedtimes! Suffice it to say, they’re actually upstairs taking naps today!

I did my best to get some pics, but with a girl who hates getting hers taken, it’s always a struggle. Here are the best. Really, I’m not kidding!

You've got to get past the faces pictures first...

Here's the only smiling one - silly bean!

Mr. G, lazing around!

Hope you all had wonderful weekends and enjoyed your Easter! Back tomorrow with some fun Things on Thursday!

1. I’m sick. Temp, head cold, fatigue, blah.

2. The kids are sick but getting better. We didn’t know if G was going to pull through yesterday – he was really pathetic! But he’s (mostly) back to his bad self today.

He spent the entire day and night like this!

And M is still feeling just sick enough to be the Queen of Whiny but is ok every other way. I really wish they were a little less energetic today!

Cuddles with Nana

3. My parents are the best. Mom was here all day yesterday and most of another day this week, and Dad was here most of today. I would have lost it without them this week of sickness.

4. I have a blog post going up for The Paperie tomorrow – check it out!

5. Can I have a bed now please?

My weekend…

Creative Chemistry 101, Dr. Seuss, Family, Online Card Classes, Studio Calico, Tim Holtz

This past Friday night I went to a crop at The Paperie – fun, fun, fun as always! I love scrapping with my pals, even if I did drive them crazy this time! You see, I forgot my water bottle so stopped at Tim Horton’s for a drink.

And I got an Iced Cappuccino.

It was big.

Me and caffeine – not such a good mix. Let’s just say that I talked. And kept talking for the whole night. Yup, no more caffeine for me!

I did manage, in between the nonstop chattering, to (almost) complete two layouts for different Dr. Seuss challenges that have been posted in blogworld lately. I came home and did some machine stitching, which added a bit more of what I was looking for, but they both still need a little something. I hate that part. Now I’ll be tearing my hair out trying to find that final perfect touch. Argh.

Anyway, here’s the Studio Calico one – I used the new kit I won, Story Hour.

Image

it is fun to have fun...

When I finally find that last bit it needs, I’ll post it again!

Saturday night, we went to a small house party for a friend’s 40th birthday. Neither one of us were in the mood to go out, but we’re glad we did – we had a great time! Good people, good food, and cake. What more could you need? It was worth the trip out!

Finally, yesterday we went to D’s Great-Aunt’s 90th birthday – good food there too and the kids had fun which makes life easier. It was in the basement of the church, so they played away in the nursery with all the “new” toys they had at their disposal.

On our way home, G fell asleep in the car so he and I had a snooze while D and M fed the ducks, checked a Geocache, and played in the playground.

All in all, a pretty good weekend!

And, to start my week off right, today was the first day of Creative Chemistry 101, a Tim Holtz class through Online Card Classes. Today was awesome – all about different inks, mediums, properties, surfaces, etc. Can’t wait until the techniques start tomorrow!

Daily Dozen: 12 on Twelve

12 on Twelve, Cats, Family, Kiddies, kids

I took part in Dear Lizzy’s 12 on Twelve on Monday. Obviously, I took more than 12 pictures, but these were the ones I finally went with, as an overall view of our day:

1. M looking down on me with her “mad face”

2. The forks the kids use every. day. Even for their fruit.

3. Rosie curled up in the middle of the chaos.

4. Ella curled up in the middle of the chaos.

5. M and D in the kitchen after supper.

6. M’s party skirt. Which she wore all day with polar fleece pants – she’ll be a trend setter, that one!

7. G’s blond curls.

8. G eating supper and totally ignoring me!

9. Flowers from my dad and Debbie for my birthday.

10. Raspberry Truffle Blizzards as a late night snack!

11. M looking up at me for a pic, but only because she thinks it’s funny to have me standing right over her with the camera!

12. A selfie, taken in the (very dirty) kitchen window.

It was fun to take a bunch of candids, and not worry about the lighting or anything else. I really didn’t care how good the pictures were, I just snapped them off. I think I’ll have to do this again next month – if I remember!

Sleepover

26 Sunday Feb 2012

Family, Kiddies, kids, Sleepover

M is at her first away from home sleepover tonight. Now, she’s slept at Nanny and Poppy’s, and at Nana’s (where she kicked Grandpa Ken out of bed and took his spot!), and at Poppy and Debbie’s. But never at a friend’s house.

Tonight is the night.

Remember a couple of weeks ago we had P & C here for a few nights? Well, the girls got the bug and have been asking to do it again ever since. We called P today but she wanted to stay home and have M over there. Two seconds later the bags were packed, the toys collected, and I was being dragged out the door.

Both girls asked, “How many sleeps can she stay?” I don’t think they were happy with the answer of, “Only one!”

I dropped off one very excited girl to another very excited girl and they disappeared – no goodbye, no kiss, no nothing!

I don’t think we’ll be getting a phone call to go pick her up anytime soon!

Have fun, M, but stop growing up already!

M and her funny sayings…

Family, Kiddies, kids, M and her funny sayings...

Last night, M broke the tail on one of her dress up costumes. We told her the elastic had snapped and it couldn’t be fixed.

She’s nothing if not stubborn so she tied a knot in it and said, “Look! I fixed it! I have mad skills!”

…but know you shouldn’t was today.

Miss Marker Face

The face says it all, “I know I’m in trouble after this picture.”

Lori, I’m sure, will appreciate the lightning bolt on her forehead!

Cropped out is P, they decorated each other. And not all the markers were washable. Big sigh.

1. We have a bunch of tired kiddies here this morning. P & C, the two I take care of, are having a sleepover for “3 sleeps” while their parents are in New Brunswick house hunting. That boils down to mean M & G are losing their buddies mid-March – we’re sad. 😦 Last night was the first “sleep” night here and we’re all dragging a little today!

2. I’m looking forward to Crop Night at The Paperie tomorrow – it’s fun to be with friends and there’s always a midnight snack afterwards! Call and sign up by this afternoon if you want in on the fun too – come on, you know you want to! 🙂

3. I started on the March LO for the 2012 Yearlong Album last night using the amazing Year-o-graphy line…

March sneak peek

4. And that leads me into… I love having my Scrap Cave (which it will now be officially know as) almost cleaned and organized! I’m actually getting work done and not messing up the kitchen! And that means I don’t have to pack everything up and drag it back to the Cave all the time! Yay! When I get the bags of donations out of there and the final bits tidied away, I’ll post an updated picture. Oh, and it really is a cave as I share it with the storage room and the freezer, but it has a door. A real door! That keeps little children out! Can you tell how exciting that is to me?!?!

5. I made this quick card the other day – super simple but I love how it turned out. More clear embossed resist (told you it was a good and effective one!) but without the trapped stamping underneath. Of all the types of the cards there are, I really hate making sympathy ones at the time I need them. Those, I like to have a stockpile of and I’m all out. This one was a prototype that I liked so I think I’ll churn out a few this evening, or tomorrow at the crop night.

With Heartfelt Sympathy

Scor Bug Detail

I used Papertrey Ink stamps, Hero Arts embossing powder and heat gun, Ranger Distress Inks, and a Scor-Bug.

6. As I was typing this up just now, my computer rebooted for “necessary updates.” Really computer? In the middle of my blog post before I saved it? Hmmmm…

Hope you all have an interesting thing-filled day – tell me some of your good things!

…for Valentine’s Day!

I was going to do another technique today, but just couldn’t pass up the Valentine’s thing. If you’re craving technique, check my previous posts here, here, and here – that should keep you going until tomorrow! 🙂

So, I knew Valentine’s was coming. I bought little treats for the kiddies, poked them away….. and promptly forgot about the whole thing!

Don’t get me wrong, I like Valentine’s Day. I just don’t get all hyped up about it. The point is, late last night I was up making M and G’s Valentine’s. And D’s is the technique for this week!

Valentine's

Also, since I forgot all about today, I didn’t get my kiddies on the ball making Valentine’s for their little friends or make the cupcakes for the party we always have. That meant Valentine’s making instead of cereal for breakfast and cupcake making with a crew of  (not very helpful) helpers this morning!

Valentine Cupcakes

Long story short, we got it all done, including making these cards, ate copious amounts of sugar, and, due to changing the topic at the last minute, this post is very, very late – sorry!

Hope you all have a very Happy Valentine’s Day with whomever or whatever you love – friends, family, pets, books…

Sara

P.S. The Valentine’s were made with this Hero Arts Stamp, Basic Grey Sugar Rush papers, Stampin’ Up! gems, and Sakura Gelly Rollers (I use medium for colouring) and Stardust Pens.

The cupcakes are this recipe (but made with rice flour and xanthan gum) and the frosting is this recipe (again with the rice flour!). These really are the best – even gluten free – with wheat, they’re to die for!

1. Said good-bye to a friend yesterday. St. Thomas Church (it’s a big one) was standing room only. I think that says it all. You’re already missed, Dan.

2. So I pinned these the other day on Pinterest, wishing I could have them in my life again and, lo and behold, as I was at the dollar store the other night, guess what I found? Score! I them have in my hands again, though not the sparkly barreled ones I remember having as a kid. Oh well, I guess these will do! 🙂

80's Pencils

3. We have royalty in the house today!

Princess Rapunzel

P, M’s bestie, brought all her princess gear to share today. M insisted that red sparkly shoes were needed to complete the look (along with her PJ bottoms!) The patch, as you can see, is still on and (knock wood) going better than expected.

4. This cat is my favourite today…

my favourite - today, anyway!

The other one (who is not as innocent as she looks) has escaped into the snow 3 times and forced me to go get her, in the cold and the snow, 3 times. Not her biggest fan right now.

5. My baby, who is also not as innocent as he looks (even my dad said he was evil!), loves his cars right now. And not napping. Sigh.

G and the little cars

Look at the tongue poking out – love that! ❤

6. Going to the Paperie to kit up the Groovy Glassine class tonight. I think there might be a spot or two still available, if you’re interested. This class is jam packed with technique, focusing on Kraft Glassine but also using acetate, Sticky Back Canvas, Cork paper, dry embossing, Perfect Pearls, Distress Stains, alcohol inks, AccuCut Dies, and more! And at the end, you’ll have a seasonal mini album to fill. If you’re going to be around St. John’s, NL on February 12, it’s worth going to – I promise!

winter - Groovy Glassine Album

7. EDIT: One more thing – I finally redid the header; no more generic hallway thing!

Have a great afternoon!
