12 on Twelve, Family, kiddies

Played along with the 12 on Twelve again this month – I love doing this, it’s a great way to get a monthly overview easily!

1. Ella’s favourite spot in the summer – in front of the fence and behind the trees where none of the kiddies can reach her!

2. M and her new buddy playing in the tent.

3. G in the crab pool,, enjoying some alone time!

4. My selfie for the day.

5. M having a foot spa with pool water and pine cones!

6. Enjoying the bubble blower!

7. M and G playing in the crab pool and pretending to eat the floaties (they’re hot dogs!)

8. MK and M whispering in the sun.

9. Upside down!

10. Singing and making music at Poppy’s house.

11. Playing in Poppy’s bath with the “whooshers” – it’s a storm!

12. Picking wild strawberries before heading home to bed.

Canada Day, Family, Kiddies, kiddies, Terra Nova National Park

I’ve been meaning to post these pics for while. Well, since Canada Day!

We spent the weekend in Central NL at my in-laws cabin and spent most of Canada Day itself at Terra Nova National Park. The kids had a blast and the weather, unlike most other Canada Days, was hot and sunny!

Here was our weekend in pictures:

Sorry for the lack of pics of M, she is not the picture poser like her brother is!

Canada Day, capelin, Family, kiddies

1. The Canada Day long weekend was fabulous. Truly. I’m used to having RDF for Canada Day due to capelin weather so the sun and high temps were a welcome change!

And now I can picture some of you saying, “RDF? Capelin weather? What?” 🙂

RDF is rain, drizzle, and fog and we usually get lots of it late June and early July. We call it capelin weather because that cool, overcast weather is what causes the capelin to roll. Capelin are little fish, good to eat but tedious because of all the bones, that roll in from the ocean onto the beaches to spawn. With all those little fish rolling in, the whales come too, chasing food. It’s fun times and the beaches are swarming with people catching dinner!

D took the kiddies out a couple of weekends ago to Middle Cove Beach. M thought they were “disgusting” and wouldn’t touch them (ha!) but G picked up as many as he could and threw them back in, dead or alive!

2. As I sit here typing this I’m hearing a wonderful sound for the first time this year – the ice cream truck! When we moved in 5 years ago and I was very pregnant  with M, I was beyond thrilled to see it and must have looked like a lunatic skipping out to the truck with my enormous belly!

3. Last weekend we went to Central NL and spent the weekend at my in-laws cabin on the lake. This weekend my best and oldest friend (we met when we were 6 and have been together ever since!) are taking the kiddies to my family’s cabin on the beach. The weather is calling for rain, boo, but we’re going regardless. And darn it, we will have fun and we will play on the beach!

This pic is from last year, G is missing though he did go and you can see the craziness we get up to. Crimping iron, anyone?

4. We recently discovered that a little girl just a year older than M is our backyard neighbour. Since her dad is redoing the fence we’ve been talking and have all decided to put in a gate. This means easy access for the two girls and a lot less whining filling my day! For the other girl’s dad, who works nights, it means a little uninterrupted sleep during the day while she plays with and entertains M. A win-win in my book!

5. We had a special visitor today. A few of my girlfriends and I placed a Simon Says Stamp order and Krista showed up this morning to pick up her stuff. And she brought Eugene, her 6 month old cocker spaniel. To say he was a hit with the kids and vice versa is an understatement! They were all wired up to say the least, and I imagine Eugene slept most of the afternoon away! We’re hoping for a return visit soon so he can play in the sprinkler! 🙂

6. As you all know, I’ve been doing an Index Card A Day. One of the women in the Flickr group does the most incredible doodles and did this one of the American Flag. I loved it and commented that she should do a Canadian one for me – and she did, right in time for Canada Day! Isn’t it amazing?

Family, Kiddies, kiddies

(NOTE: We think we have the internet issues figured out – fingers crossed. Sorry for any late replies to your comments, I should be more on the ball after today!)

I’m so happy I remember to do the 12 on Twelve on the right day this month – doing it on the 14th last month grated a little on the anal retentive nerve I have!

Here are the pics:

1. M flying with Jake and the Neverland Pirates – and little pinch of pixie dust!

2. A favourite morning treat – peanut butter and nutella on a spoon.

3. New Legos – the bagpiper and hippie, with a front end loader.

4. A favourite new game – squishing each other on the kitchen floor!

5. G digging in the playground, sweating it out in his hoodie (everyone else was in tees and shorts but he refused to take anything off).

6. G in the swing and my first attempt at sun flare – I like it!

7. Flowers for Mama.

8. Bringing the wagon home so “You don’t have to do it, Mama!”

9. My creative mess – the kitchen island will never be the same colour again!

10. Lori came for a visit – and added to the creative mess with her ICAD.

11. First evening nice enough to BBQ and eat it outside.

12. Bath time.

M and her funny sayings…

Family, Kiddies, kiddies, M and her funny sayings...

I promised to post this yesterday but time got away from me…

When I was at the Daylong crop at The Paperie on Saturday, D texted me and said,  “I’m facing the Spanish inquisition!!!!” And then I got an email titled Inquisition transcript excerpt (I should preface this conversation by stating that M has gone to church many times and D doesn’t really believe in religion which made this all the funnier to me!):

M. How do you spell hula hoop
D. h-u-l-a-h-o-o-p.
M. But how do you spell hula hoop?
D  H-U-L-A-H-O-O-P!
M. Yes but how do you spin one?
D. I don’t know Molly.
M. But tell me.
D. I don’t know Molly
M. Why don’t you know?
D. I don’ t know Molly. (as you can tell, this is his standard answer to her many, many questions!)
M. Can you scooter?
D. Yes.
M. Where’s your scooter?
D. I don’t have one.
M. How do you know how to scooter if you don’t own one?
D. I just do.
M. Can you skateboard?
D. No.
M. Can you bicycle?
D. Yes.
M. Where’s your bicycle?
D. In the shed?
M. On the ceiling?
D. No, on the floor.
M. How do you walk on water?
D. You can’t.
M. Yes but how do you stand on water & not sink?
D. You can’t.
M. Who can walk on water?
D. Jesus (bad move there, I should have seen it coming).
M. Who’s Jesus?
D. God’s son?
M. Who’s God?
D. It’s a long story.
M. Is it a difficult word?
D. Yes Molly.

Now, knowing my daughter, this was not the end of the conversation, she’s nothing if not tenacious.

And I would have loved to be there when D said Jesus could walk on water – never thought I would hear that coming out of his mouth! 🙂

Our weekend…

23 Wednesday May 2012

Family, Kiddies, kiddies, May 24

This past weekend was a long one – the first of the summer and for once, it didn’t snow! And the weather was actually warm! Two big shocks right there! 🙂

On a side note, I love long weekends – three days instead of 2 and then, to follow it up, a short work week; it’s like two holidays in one!

We spent the weekend at my in-law’s cabin with friends of ours who have two kiddies, one of whom is M’s bestie though she’s G’s age. We figure C’s in for a shock come kindergarten when she realizes M has left her behind with G!

Anyway, here’s our weekend in pictures!

Stripey Jammies

Playing Strawberry Shortcake on the top bunk!

D. says Vienna Sausages are a May 2-4 staple… I disagree.

However, roasting marshmallows is definitely a staple!

Funny face at the fire

G & C having a lakeside walkabout

This is my grandfather Case’s face – let’s see if the rest of the family agrees with me!

ummmmm, I really have no idea…

Family walk

The kiddies – M, C, L, & G

A favourite cabin game – kick Daddy

Reading and playing Curious George

Watching movies as we pack to go home

And that’s our weekends in a nutshell – lots of outdoors, swings, and marshmallows; we can’t wait to go again!

G (while eating ice cream from Bergs): Ummmmm, deee-licious!

(on a side note, we started toilet training today – so far, not as horrific as I was expecting, only one major cleanup! Fingers crossed for tomorrow…)

Things on Thursday – the G edition

birthday, Family, Kiddies, kiddies

1. 3 years ago today, I was in a hospital bed watching this tiny boy sleeping and making little moaning sounds. He was definitely the cutest boy ever born (this is true, I am not biased, ask anyone!)

2. 3 years ago today, M was meeting “her baby” for the first time and pointing out all his body parts – she was very into that at age 20 months!

3. 3 years ago today, D and I were arguing over names – he was adamant about Gabriel, I didn’t like it. He won, obviously. I regret to this day I didn’t put Gabe on the birth certificate. He just isn’t a Gabriel….

4. 3 years ago today I was still in shock there was a baby boy – I was convinced I was having another girl. As a matter of fact, when the nurse said, “It’s a boy!” my response was, “Are you sure?” Ha!

5. 3 years ago today I already couldn’t imagine our lives without this blond haired, blue-eyed boy in it. He was, and still is, perfect. Though he does have an evil streak a mile wide!

HAPPY 3rd BIRTHDAY, baby boy!!

Happy Birthday, sweet boy, we love you more than you’ll ever know!

Mama

He…

dirty nose from digging in the yard

…is not sleeping. Which would be fine if he stayed in his room and didn’t jump on other people to wake them up.

…makes the funniest faces. He’s just like my brother Matthew who was the bane of my existence growing up!

…loves his trucks and cars. He’s such a boy! But he really loves carrying around the tiny ones. He’s definitely mine!

…really is the cutest thing ever. When he’s not being evil, that is!

She…

at the park

…is being somewhat easier to get along with these days. Big sigh of relief here. I was about to donate her to charity…. 😉

…loves writing letters – both the alphabet and ones to mail. She’s getting pretty good at both!

…had her first bike ride yesterday and did really well. She loved every minute of it!

…really is the cutest thing ever. When she’s not whiny, that is!

He…

helping Miss M

…is procrastinating about writing the outline for his Studio Photography 101 Course.

…is itching to go on a long Geocaching spree.

…just bought me a very fancy, very sharp new knife just because. And because I always complain that mine won’t stay sharp. He wins the very nice husband award this week!

She…

selfie...

…is loving that spring has arrived and we can all go outside again.

….is still really enjoying the scrapcave – though the stuff is starting to close in on me again!

…has some new 100% wool felt that I can’t wait to play with!

…thinks that Instagram for Android is the bomb!

She…

napping with the trains

…sleeps in the strangest places.

…loves getting her picture taken.

She…

not pausing a second for the camera

…insists on sneaking into G’s room at night. He hates that.

…hates getting her picture taken.

S.

P.S. Thanks Cathie, for the great recap idea!
