background: The kiddos are in the basement trying to get rid of a big creepy crawly bug of some kind…..

Gabe: I’m freaking out!

Molly: No, Gabe! You have to save us!

Gabe: But I’m really freaking out! (he sounds pretty excited to me. Just saying. ๐Ÿ™‚ )

Molly: You’re Gabe the Brave, you can do it!

(Gabe comes upstairs): I need socks and shoes.

Me: Why?

Gabe (looking determined and thrilled): So I can squash it dead! Yeah! (insert fist pump here)

Gabe the Brave - bug killer extraordinaire

Gabe the Brave – bug killer extraordinaire

They’re a blood thirsty crew, my lot.

For the record, he squashed it dead *and* cleaned up the bug guts!

Family, M and her funny sayings...

The other day I asked the kiddies if they wanted grilled cheese sandwiches or cheesy bread for supper (it was one of those days) and cheesy bread won the day.

Darrell then asked, “How do you make cheesy bread?” Well, Molly and I looked at him like he was crazy – how is it that he doesn’t know cheesy bread after all this time? I gave him the basic explanation – cheese on bread toasted in the oven. Molly got a little more creative:

cheesy bread1. take out the bread (hers is gluten free and in the freezer)

2. make the bread warm (in the microwave)

3. cut the cheese (things almost went horribly wrong here as Darrell started to grate the cheese – Molly was not impressed, her instructions were very specific; that’s a block, it’s not grated!)

4. make the bread warm again (on a baking sheet in the oven, this time.)

As Darrell went through each step he received a check mark and then at the end when he completed his task very well, he got the giant smiley face and check mark.

I’m sure I could have been more helpful during this process but watching him stumble through as Molly coached him was way too entertaining!

Kiddies, kiddies, M and her funny sayings...

Yesterday after breakfast:

Me: M, come over and let me clean you up.

M: Just a minute, Mama, I’m busy.

Me: What are you doing?

M: Stuffing my hair in my ear.

Yup, that’s my child. I’m so proud…. ๐Ÿ™‚

kiddies, M and her funny sayings...

Today my in-laws came for supper and so I made Chocolate Pudding Cake (yes, it’s delicious!) and of course, there were some “helpers” involved!

G and L: Can we eat some (of the batter)?

Me: No, it’s not ready yet.

G and L: Why not?

M: Boys, you have to wait, it’s only the prototype!

(I almost spewed into the batter at that point!)

A little later…

M: Mama, what are you doing?

Me: Pouring the batter into the baking dish.

M (hands cupping her mouth): Watch out! Fire in the hole!

…Tomorrow morning, we’re watching something different – no more Alvin and the Chipmunks!

Family, Kiddies, kiddies, M and her funny sayings...

I promised to post this yesterday but time got away from me…

When I was at the Daylong crop at The Paperie on Saturday, D texted me and said, ย “I’m facing the Spanish inquisition!!!!” And then I got an email titledย Inquisition transcript excerptย (I should preface this conversation by stating that M has gone to church many times and D doesn’t really believe in religion which made this all the funnier to me!):

M. How do youย spell hula hoop
D. h-u-l-a-h-o-o-p.
M. But how do you spell hula hoop?
D ย H-U-L-A-H-O-O-P!
M. Yes but how do you spin one?
D. I don’t know Molly.
M. But tell me.
D. I don’t know Molly
M. Why don’t you know?
D. I don’ t know Molly. (as you can tell, this is his standard answer to her many, many questions!)
M. Can you scooter?
D. Yes.
M. Where’s your scooter?
D. I don’t have one.
M. How do you know how to scooter if you don’t own one?
D. I just do.
M. Can you skateboard?
D. No.
M. Can you bicycle?
D. Yes.
M. Where’s your bicycle?
D. In the shed?
M. On the ceiling?
D. No, on the floor.
M. How do you walk on water?
D. You can’t.
M. Yes but how do you stand on water & not sink?
D. You can’t.
M. Who can walk on water?
D. Jesus (bad move there, I should have seen it coming).
M. Who’s Jesus?
D. God’s son?
M. Who’s God?
D. It’s a long story.
M. Is it a difficult word?
D. Yes Molly.

Now, knowing myย daughter, this was not the end of the conversation, she’s nothing if not tenacious.

And I would have loved to be there when D said Jesus could walk on water – never thought I would hear that coming out of his mouth! ๐Ÿ™‚

book, Jackass, M and her funny sayings..., Publishers Weekly, The New York Times Best Seller list

M: Jackass! (laughs really loudly) That’s hilarious, Daddy!

Now, I feel that I should explain this one – and the blame is all my fairy godmother’s fault! She gave the kids this book for Christmas and they *love* it.

It’s seriously funny, a definite for any kiddies on your list, and if you don’t like the jackass part (though he really is a jackass/donkey and I also think that part is hilarious!) you can change the word . The pre-readers in your life will never know the difference! It was aย Publishers Weekly Best Childrenโ€™s Book in 2010 and on the New York Times bestseller list for over 6 months.

And, if you want to read it, hereย it is on Youtube – which I also find hilarious, as that’s an electronic way to read a book about a paper book! ๐Ÿ™‚

Anyway, enjoy, then go forth and buy!

kiddies, M and her funny sayings...

Earlier this morning I was watching a videoย tweeted by Jennifer McGuire (it’s funny, go watch!) and when it was over M went crazy:

M: The muffets, the muffets!

Me: (totally confused) The what?

M: The muffets, I want the pig!

Me: (looking at her like a crazy person) What?

M: There! The muffet pig with long hair!

I finally saw what she was looking at, Miss Piggy from theย Muppets – it was a confusing couple of minutes for me there.
