Painty fun!

I had another class in the Distress Renewed series last week and we got good and painty! So much so that I now have green all over one of my shirts – boo. Surprisingly, I don’t normally get dirty – I once wore white from head to toe while doing a Marah Johnson/Creative Imaginations mixed media class and came out of it spotless – true story!

Anyway….. here’s what we made!

We went blendy and drippy and rainbowy for the first one:

rainbow with gold

I added a great quote with the awesome Teresa Collins alphas:

rainbow with gold title

And we went dry brush crazy for the second!

beautiful self

Dry brushing over cold press watercolour paper makes some amazing texture!

And we finished it off with more stickers from the element sheet and some painted wood veneer stars:

Of course, we played a bit and made card fronts with other Distress Paint techniques too…

Basic marbling:

Stamping:

Fun times, as always!

We have more of these classes coming up in the fall so if you have any products lying around, wondering what you could do with them, let me know – maybe they’ll be the focus of the next Renewed class!

Better late than never this month! We spent the weekend with my oldest friend and her kids at Salmon Cove Sands where my family has a cabin. It’s a tradition for sure – Girl’s weekend plus Gabe – we’ve been doing it twice a summer since 2008 (though Gabe didn’t enter the picture until a year later!)july1. Every day is better when it starts with bubbles.

2. We were swarmed with ladybugs the whole day – lots of luck coming to us!

3. best of buddies, even with the ages going from 5-almost 11

4. my cousin Andrew, in the province to hike the East Coast trail – good to see him at one of our favourite places!

5. me and Suzette – bff’s since 1981

6. It’s not a day at the beach unless you dig a big hole…

7. or collect beach rocks and shells….

8. or get buried in the sand!

9. covered in dirt, surrounded by buckets, happy as can be.

10. yeah, they’re crazy…

11. and we’re adding a fifth one next year!

12. Huge moon, behind the clouds, over the ocean

background: The kiddos are in the basement trying to get rid of a big creepy crawly bug of some kind…..

Gabe: I’m freaking out!

Molly: No, Gabe! You have to save us!

Gabe: But I’m really freaking out! (he sounds pretty excited to me. Just saying. ๐Ÿ™‚ )

Molly: You’re Gabe the Brave, you can do it!

(Gabe comes upstairs): I need socks and shoes.

Me: Why?

Gabe (looking determined and thrilled): So I can squash it dead! Yeah! (insert fist pump here)

Gabe the Brave - bug killer extraordinaire

Gabe the Brave – bug killer extraordinaire

They’re a blood thirsty crew, my lot.

For the record, he squashed it dead *and* cleaned up the bug guts!

Classes, Dina Wakley Media, Ranger, Studio Calico Wanderlust, Yearlong Album, YLA2014

I just realized that I never shared the May LO’s for the Yearlong Album class and I soon have the June ones to show – oops! ๐Ÿ™‚

We had fun, and a bit of mess, last month playing with Dina Wakley Media paints and one of her techniques, reduction stencilling:

may

For added interest and texture we spattered paint, added enamel dots, and made use of some die cut negatives:

may texture

Finally, we added our title, some Studio Calico vellum alpha stickers, and a bit of flair for extra dimension:

may letters

I’m pretty sure all of us in the class were in love with the SC vellum alphas – I think they need to make them in every colour!

For the rest of the summer we’re moving the class to Tuesday nights so no one has to miss out on weekends away – we get so little warm weather that we need to take ever moment possible to enjoy it!

Classes, kidart, Mini Album

This coming Sunday I’m teaching an awesome kids class at The Paperie – a summer mini album!

summer fun

It’s going to be bright and full of fun techniques like dry embossing, heat embossing, and making our own stencils.

summer fun - june envelope

At the end of the class, everyone will have an album ready to fill up with summer pics – no other work needed! It’s a great size to bring along on vacation too, which means they’ll have something to work on in the car, or on the plane, or when it rains.

Plus, everyone goes home with alpha and word stickers, washi tape, and enamel dots so they can embellish and play if they want to.

So if you have kids who need something fun to do on Sunday, or want to have some crafty fun, give the Paperie a call and sign up!

Happy Canada Day!

Canada Day, Memorial Day, Newfoundland

Canadian_Flag

To all my fellow Canadians – Happy Canada Day! I hope you are having a great holiday with fabulous weather and amazing people around you!

342212-Berserker

To all my fellow Newfoundlanders, take time for Memorial Day today. Here in Newfoundland we rememberย the battle at Beaumont-Hamel during WW1ย before we celebrate. It was day of tragic losses for us and the number of young men who never returned home was almost unimaginable. Take a moment for them.

Simple Scrapper, The Paperie

showtell

Another month, another Show & Tell at Simple Scrapper! I love this time of month and seeing what the other Creative Team members create! Even better, I really love to see what work other people link up in the Show & Tell – I’m blown away by the talent and creativity every time!

Here’s what you’re getting from me this month.

My story starter LO uses an old template from the February 2012 Members library:

canada day

I have to say, that library of sketches for members is fabulous, varied, and oh so easy to use! Being able to search for a sketch based on size, number, or orientation of my pictures? Awesome.

I had fun with my vintage typewriter this month and did the journalingย for both LO’s with it:

canada day journalingSome fun washi and cork stickers in the corners finished this one off:

canada day embellies

My template LO used some fun pics I took of the kids and I while we hiked Signal Hill one day:

selfies

I used wood veneer on this one, coloured with my red Wink of Stella pen – those go over wood veneer like butter!

selfies hearts

Make sure to head over and see the Show & Tell and add your own link so I can check it out!

Both LO’s this month were made with The Paperie’s June Page kit which I love, love, love! Last I saw they had a couple left so go grab one or contact them – they can ship! ๐Ÿ™‚

I have another post today since it’s Canada Day here and Memorial Day for Newfoundland so don’t miss that either!
