This is it! The last Yearlong album class ever and the last LO’s for 2014.

12 - decemberThis one used loads of Simple Stories stickers for the banners along the top:

december bannersAnd the words along the bottom:

december wordsAnd the circles around the photos:

december stickersThen we finished everything off with October Afternoon chipboard stars and gold mist spatter:

december starsThe last page of the album mimicked the first with the paper choices and colours:

13 - final pageBut we added in a subtle crayon resist with Prima Color Bloom spray:

final page resistAnd we used the spray for regular misting plus a spatter effect:

final page splatterAnd that’s it! I filled two complete albums, which Β means I need to do another cover page and final page, but there is another year in the books.

I’m super excited and stoked for the new class this year, My Favourite Things. I’ll be posting sneaks on Instagram and Twitter with #FaveThings2015 and there’s already a couple there, like this one:

FaveThings2015 sneak1

Hope to see some of you there, it’s going to be awesome!

Cheers!

Mixed Media Layout, Yearlong Album, YLA2014

We’re almost at the end of this album and for once I thought I’d do a fairly monochromatic layout. There is a bit of colour but it’s all fairly light and tone on tone.

11 - november

There is a super fun, and messy, technique on this one using stickles. If you look closely you can see glitter all around the small squares I punched out – Stickles!

november shimmer

I love the sparkle it brings, highlighting just those pieces. Of course, I did go in with my favourite Sakura Stardust pen to outline the title and chipboard hearts, plus add some shimmer to the wood veneer stars – you can’t have too much sparkle after all!

Cheers!

Photo Flips, Simple Stories, Yearlong Album, YLA2014

The September LO was a fun and interesting one this month – I had a lot of letters to try and fit on the page (September is a long word!) and I wanted to show how to use the Simple Stories Sn@p Photo Flips in a different way – I love how it turned out!

I chose to use patterned paper again, simply because the icon paper seemed to fit with the Back to School theme that is September around here!

09 - septemberThis time I layered the paper on watercolour paper to get a border. I added the usual grey Project Life arrows and some extra stickers, along with a doodled border, around the edge:

september clusterAnd, believe it or not, these pages hold 10 pictures! I specifically made sure to add both landscape and portrait orientations so everyone could see that either would work.

september photo flips - leftAnd it’s a super fun interactive element, especially when you add all the great Simple Stories stickers to the pics:

september photo flips - rightSee that picture of Mister Gabe? That’s his best friend Hannah – we kind of like her a lot, and her little sister (who I take care of) is the cutest thing you ever saw. Just for proof:

spider heidiI mean, seriously. She kills me. Hannah is the hilarious Gingerbread Man behind her – love these two. But Halloween is for another day……

Anyway, that was September – hope you liked the fun tip about Photo Flips!

I’m off this weekend to The Paperie Fall Retreat and I. Can’t. Wait. Really. I’m writing this the day I’m leaving and I woke up at 5am. It’s like Christmas to a 5-year-old. πŸ™‚

Hope you all have Β a fabulous weekend and come back early next week to check out the Halloween craziness that happened here!

Cheers,

S.

Well. I was just going to post my September Yearlong Album LO’s and realized that I haven’t shown you August yet. Oops! So, to keep these in some type of order, here’s August – you’ll get September tomorrow! πŸ™‚

08 - augustThis month it was fun with strips and drips! We cut a bunch of papers into different length strips which we layered behind photos and diecuts:

august layersYou can see I added my signature doodling to the diecuts to make them pop a little more.

The drips were made with three different shades of Heidi Swapp ColorShine mist. We made a pool of mist behind the photos then let it drip to either side:

august strips and dripsThe shimmer and the slight colour variation, plus the bit of added texture and dimension from the strips is pretty awesome.

We finished the LO with the usual arrows and some bits and bobs:

august heartsHave I mentioned how much I love those cork hearts and gold stars? Love. Them.

See you tomorrow with the September LO!

Cheers,

S.

Classes, Yearlong Album, YLA2014

I’m way behind in sharing things here but now that summer is almost over and school is in session again, I’m planning to get back to a regular schedule – fingers crossed!

Last month we did the July LO for the Yearlong Album class and it’s one of my faves. We used neon yellow and Rock Candy Distress Crackle Paint, along with Distress Stains – it was all kinds of fun awesomeness! πŸ™‚

07 - july

Isn’t it pretty with those soft colours? I love the yellow stain on the title:

july title

And look at all those awesome cracks – great texture!

july crackle

The Simple Stories element sticker sheet had fabulous pieces for this month too, perfect for layering and adding to photos:

july stickers

The big change this month, as you may have noticed, was that we did a single page LO – and then we added a divided page protector!

The front has a great focal piece:

july page protector front

and the back is full of pics with a single scrapped square in each line:

july page protector back

If you go to my flickr account, I have closeups of each square so you can see the details!

Isn’t that a fun one? I’m kind of in love with the 3×3 divided page protector now – thanks October Afternoon!

I’ll be back in a couple of days with the Summer canvas class I taught. Only the Fall canvas left to make and we’ll have all four seasons completed!

S.

Classes, Dina Wakley Media, Ranger, Studio Calico Wanderlust, Yearlong Album, YLA2014

I just realized that I never shared the May LO’s for the Yearlong Album class and I soon have the June ones to show – oops! πŸ™‚

We had fun, and a bit of mess, last month playing with Dina Wakley Media paints and one of her techniques, reduction stencilling:

may

For added interest and texture we spattered paint, added enamel dots, and made use of some die cut negatives:

may texture

Finally, we added our title, some Studio Calico vellum alpha stickers, and a bit of flair for extra dimension:

may letters

I’m pretty sure all of us in the class were in love with the SC vellum alphas – I think they need to make them in every colour!

For the rest of the summer we’re moving the class to Tuesday nights so no one has to miss out on weekends away – we get so little warm weather that we need to take ever moment possible to enjoy it!

Distress Stain, Yearlong Album, YLA2014

For the April Yearlong Album class I took things a little more mixed media:

april

I love how the resist and texture turned out with the Distress Stains we used for colour:

april texture

I have to admit, resist techniques are my favourite! Give me a new resist medium, or a new way of combining resist ideas and I’m a happy little camper! πŸ™‚

I also stick to some basics for me and one of those is this trick:

april taps

A few taps of mist or paint perpendicular to the photos to draw your eye across. If you go back through my LO’s you’ll see this trick quite a bit. I also love how it adds a bit of colour without overwhelming your nice open white space.

Things are crazy here, as always, and amping up as the weather turns (slightly) warmer. More outdoors time and less computer time so as usual, summer will be slower on the blog than usual. Of course, it’s been slow here lately anyway so you probably won’t notice a difference – oops!

One reason for the craziness is some classes I’m prepping for – and I’m excited about this one:

sneak peekA kid’s summer mini album, open to ages 10+. We’ll be playing with heat embossing, dry embossing, alcohol inks, making our own stencils, and more! Details will be added hereΒ when available but the date will be July 6. Hopefully, I’ll see some of your kiddies there!

S.

P.S. Happy Friday the thirteenth! And its a full moon to boot – let’s bring on the crazy!

Mixed Media Layout, Yearlong Album, YLA2013

So this past Sunday I taught the final class of the 2013 Yearlong Album. It was bittersweet: I loved the class peeps and we had a blast getting messy and playing with mixed media this year but by this point in the process I’m a little tired of looking at the same paper and am excited and ready for the new year to start! We have some amazing new product ordered for 2014 and a new concept – exclusive sketches! If you want more details, or to sign up, contact The Paperie.

Onto the final LO’s….

This a was a jam packed class because we made 5, yes FIVE, LO’s! I was so impressed with everyone when we actually got them all done!

November was all about Primary Elements, medium transfer, Ultra Thick Embossing Enamel (UTEE), and Wendy Vecchi Translucent Embossing Paste:

November - wheee

I love the rugged, distressed look of the transferred frame.

November - glamour girl

And the paste over a stencil is fabulous.Β My favourite part though, is the shine and texture:

glamour girl - layers and texture

So cool!

The December LO’s had the fun element of used paper towel collage. It looks great as a background photo mat:

December - shine

And even better cut into shapes and used as embellishments:

December - twinkleSeriously, isn’t that colour and texture awesome?

twinkle - layersFinally, we did the last page of the album.

Final Page - it was good

I wanted to keep it simple and picture free but many people in the class added a pic and they looked great!

Most of the LO’s from past year are at my Flickr gallery under the Yearlong Album 2013 set. The ones that are missing are the couple of months where I didn’t finish adding pictures to the LO’s. I’m hoping to get those done in the next couple of weeks and then I’ll update the set with the completed album. In the meantime, enjoy the rest!

Mixed Media Layout, The Crafter's Workshop, Yearlong Album, YLA2013

Sorry it’s so late – today had some unexpected happenings and news – but here is the second finished LO from this past Sunday’s class.

happy

With this one, I layered a couple of mist colours and let them drip, plus I spattered shimmer mist to create sparkly water drops. I also smeared modeling paste over the stencil in such a way that most of the words/paste picked up colour and blended into the background. I did this on purpose so that the word “happy” stood out in white on the photo itself.

happy - stencil

Finally, I layered stickers, paper scraps, circles, and stamps under the picture.

happy - layers

Lots of colour and movement here – perfect for a busy four-year-old boy!

Mixed Media Layout, Yearlong Album, YLA2013

This past Sunday was another Yearlong Album class and we played with gesso, Dylusions Ink Spray, and modeling paste.

may - if you believeIt was fun to see how much the gesso could change not only the look of the background page but also how it reacted to and played with inks.

I also showed how fun certain mists are when they interact with molding paste:

May - wordsMine was very subtle but I love how the paste picks up the mist colour as it dries! And look at the shimmery spots – Luminarte Radiant Rain mist is *so* shiny!

Of course, to finish it all off I used lots of layers of tissue, book print, stickers, stamping, and buttons – love the dimension!

May - layers

I’ll be back tomorrow with the second page – I started it in the class as a demo of sorts so even the class peeps haven’t seen this one completed yet!
