2012 – My faves!

31 Monday Dec 2012

A lot of bloggers out there are rounding out the year with their favourite posts, or LO’s, or art pieces. I’m going to join in but give you my top 5 faves of the year – be it blog post, LO, whatever!

5. My 12 on Twelve posts, as a whole. I didn’t start this project until March so I missed the first 2 months of the year, but overall I love seeing a basic day in our lives each month. It’s usually nothing special except what we do everyday and that alone makes it pretty darn special anyway. Plus, I get to see my everchanging hair colour at a glance! πŸ™‚

4. My ICAD posts, as a whole. (I feel like I’m somewhat cheating by not narrowing down these two project posts but since it’s my list, I get to make the rules!) I loved the small canvas, I loved having to/making myself be creative every day, and I really, really loved the awesomeness that came out of the experimenting I did. Some of the cards were among my favourite art pieces of the year.

ICAD #16

3. This LO. I love the colours, how the blending worked out, using the whole stencil, and mostly, I love that picture. It all came together to be one LO that stands out to me over this past year.

2. This canvas. I had been itching to do… more. More than just scrapbooking. I did some mini albums, a couple of basic altered projects and home decor, but still…. And then I signed up for Christy Tomlinson’s SheArt Workshop and haven’t looked back.

But without a doubt, my favourite of the year is:

1. The Garbage post. This was among the top 5 in viewed and commented on posts this year and a lot of that is because of the subject and the timing. I wrote this post not long after the world heard about the horrific news in Connecticut and it was uplifting to hear about something good. Bob Fitzgerald, the garbage man, Β to me simply personifies the ordinary person out there doing little things to make a happy difference in someone’s life. I’m so glad he touched so many of you as well.

And Happy New Year to you all.

Christmas Randomness

Christmas

Remember the story about G asking for a lightbulb? This was the Santa he asked:

Santa pic - 2012

Always good for Santa to have a good story to bring home to Mrs. Claus, I guess! And seriously? My kids are the cutest… πŸ™‚

I went to a concert on Wednesday night with a couple of friends. A local group, The Ennis Sisters always do a Christmas concert in local churches around the province with part of the proceeds going directly to the churches they perform in. These girls may have the best harmonies I’ve ever heard – love them!

My sister-in-law sent me this blog the other day:

Twiggy Pairs of Skates - Michele Pacey

Aren’t they the cutest? You should see what she did with egg cartons today!

I have a feeling that posts are going to be very scarce next week, both D and I are off and there are *lots* of family things planned – plus my brother and wife are home, yay!

So to all of you, Merry Christmas. I hope you all have exactly the one you want this year!

Garbage

City of Mount Pearl, garbage collection

Yes, today’s post is about garbage.

Our garbage man, to be exact.

Now, I’m sure he has a name, and a different official title than “Garbage Man” but in my house, to my kiddies, that’s what he’s called.

Every Friday morning they all line off in the front window, just waiting for him to come by, and every Friday he stops and waves. They love him. And when someone else does his route occasionally, they know.

A while back the city gave all of us fancy new garbage cans that be picked up by the trucks and dumped in. This has made Friday mornings even more exciting – it’s a robot truck!

Well, last Friday, I hear the usual commotion about the truck and the cans and wow, look at that. And then they all went crazy.

“Mama, mama! Sara, Sara! He’s coming to our door!”

What? Why would he be coming to our door?

Well, to give us presents of course! Yes, presents.

He gave each of the four kiddies who watch him every Friday a little tiny garbage can.

garbage cans - kidsCan you tell how much they love them?

It even has wheels that turn and a lid that opens. Naturally, that only makes them even cooler to the kids. “Mama!” said in a hushed and awed voice, “It’s just like a real live garbage can!”

So, to the City of Mount Pearl and especially to our very own Garbage Man – thank you. You are officially one of the kiddies favourite people ever.

G and his funny sayings...

G: Can we go to Tricia’s house for a little while?

Me: No, my baby, Tricia is sick.

G: What’s wrong with her?

Me: Oh, she has a really bad throat and her ears hurt.

G: We should bring Tricia an orange.

Me: Why should we bring her an orange?

G: Because oranges always help when people are sick.

G - Sweet boy

My boy is the sweetest. πŸ™‚

The Final Batch

cards

I was down in my Scrapcave the other day and found a stamp that was randomly lying around – not unusual given the mess down there! Anyway, I saw it and thought, “I know what to do with that!” and less than an hour later I had ten more Christmas cards!

I said I was taking Christmas off, and by that I meant I was taking out the stress. So far, so good. 10 cards in 45 minutes? No stress at all!

holly jolly cardFirst I stamped the sentiment in Versamark on red scrap paper, embossed in Silver, then punched it out. I misted a kraft card base with Calico White Mister Huey’s, added a bit of washi tape, tied some twine, and popped off the punched piece.

A bit of colour, a bit of shine, and a bit of dimension – what more do you need?

Inside I stamped a sentiment and some snowflakes in brown then slipped in the family pic.

And that’s it – the final batch of cards for this year!

Hope you all have a holly jolly one yourselves!

12 on Twelve

Last Wednesday was 12 on Twelve time again. And it was a cool one because for the last time in our lifetimes all the numbers were the same – 12/12/12.

Here’s what I got, a prettyΒ low-keyΒ day all around!

12on12december1. Breakfast while trying to catch up on email/blogs/twitter….

2. Christmas card photos back from the printer – chopping them all up.

3. My first Christmas decoration! A free printable from Simple Scrapper.

4. My standard monthly selfie in the porch.

5. The boys, walking over their “bridges.”

6. Miss M brought home her school pics – she’s such a cutie!

7. Mr. G at gymnastic with Nana.

8. Me and my Kobo, enjoying a very rare quiet moment at nap time!

9. Rosie looking out my horribly dirty windows at the nasty snow.

10. Errands and Christmas shopping.

11. A drink for me, a coffee for a pal.

12. Selfie with Lori in her mirror.

G and his funny sayings..., Kiddies

So D took the kids to have their pictures taken with Santa today and of course, he asked what they wanted for Christmas. M said a Lego friends treehouse (hint, hint Uncle Matthew) and G said “I want a light bulb. ”

And he was dead serious. πŸ™‚

Party Cards!

14 Friday Dec 2012

cards, Christmas card, October Afternoon, Stampin' Up

I went to a great party last night with an awesome group of friends and laughed until I hurt. We crafty types, we know how to have a good time!

This was the party I mentioned a couple of days ago that I made cards for. Almost half the cards I made in total this year actually!

Again, I went super simple (and check out the cute photo bomber):

brown paper packages card

Kraft paper, naturally, with snowflakes stamped in Colorbox Pigment ink in Frost White (the best white ink) and then tied up with baker’s twine. A strip of October Afternoon washi, a mist of Blizzard Mr.Huey’s and done.

Inside I added a sentiment from the My Mind’s Eye Winter Wonderland stamp set and more mist, plus the twine gave me the perfect spot to stick the family photo:

And the shimmer from the Blizzard is awe-some! Love the iridescence of it!

Unfortunately, I thought of misting after writing names on all the washiΒ in non-permanent ink and so some of them were blurred and smudgy. Going with my “taking Christmas off” vibe this year, I shrugged and said, “Meh.”

And I didn’t feel guilty at all. πŸ™‚

Remember, you have until Sunday night to comment onΒ this postΒ and maybe win a spot in theΒ Home Blessings Big Picture ClassesΒ workshop with Courtney Walsh! Don’t miss out!
