Big Pictures Classes. Giveaway

Art + Science banner

Hi everyone –  I’m excited to say that I have one spot to give away in Big Picture Classes Art & Science of Scrapbooking Workshop! This is a repeat of a class taught by Stacy Julian and Jennifer Wilson and the first time around it was so popular that they’re offering it again. Trust me, you don’t want to miss out! Want to know more?

Art + Science of Scrapbooking, 16 brain-boosting challenges to strengthen your creative process taught by Stacy Julian and Jennifer Wilson.

Art + Science teachers

Class Description

Are you a right-brained person who embraces possibility and spontaneity, thrives on imagination, relies on feelings, and thinks in symbols and images? Are you a left-brained person who practices strategy and order, finds comfort in facts, relies on logic, and thinks in words and language?

The answer to both questions is “yes!” In The Art + Science of Scrapbooking, a mind-bending workshop from Stacy Julian and Jennifer Wilson, you’ll learn to harness the creative power of both sides of your brain.

In four illuminating weeks, right-brainer Stacy Julian and left-brainer Jennifer Wilson will help you embrace your natural cognitive strengths. But they’ll also challenge themselves, each other, and YOU to find a new sense of balance and power as you explore the other side of your brain.

Read the rest of the description here.

Doesn’t that sound like fun? Check out the video:

To enter, just leave me a comment telling me if you’re left brained or right brained. Not sure? Try this!

You can also register for the class here or try to win a spot at Kelly’s blog. Contest closes here on Tuesday, May 13 and I’ll draw a winner the next day – just in time for class to start on Thursday!

Good luck!

Big Picture Classes, December Duos, Giveaway

Just in time for your December memory keeping projects, I have a fabulous giveaway from Big Picture Classes – the December Duos Class!

BPC DD sq

I can’t wait to do this one myself – it’s definitely going to add a fun piece to my December Daily. Want to know more? Here’s the info and a video from BPC:

The “December Duos” concept is easy, stress-free, and inspiring. Every day for the twelve days leading up to Christmas Day, two of our twelve instructors will share a scrapbook layout, video message, and a page prompt in the form of a duo (“warm & cold,” “give & receive,” “near & far”). That’s a total of two-dozen inspiring ideas!

You can follow the instructor’s lead or march in your own direction as you snap your photos for the day. Then, after printing our fabulously free journaling cards and title cards, you’ll either slip the cards and your photos into a Project Life mini album from American Crafts or use them on a traditional (or digital) scrapbook page.

12 Days of Christmas: December Duos makes it easy to capture all of your most important holiday moments—in a festive new format—while keeping up with all the parties, presents, and pageants that make the holiday season magical.

Learn more and register here

Doesn’t that look like fun? Just leave a comment here telling me your favourite Christmas memory or tradition to be entered to win. Contest closes midnight EST November 30 and I’ll post the winner on December 1.  *contest closed*

Good luck!

Blog Hop, Giveway, Paper Issues, Simple Scrapper

Hi everyone! A few of the Simple Scrapper girls are joining some of the Paper Issues girls in a fun blog hop for the new Paper Issues: Simple Scrapper Sketches!

PI blog hop badge2

If you’re hopping along or new here, welcome! You should have come from Kristine‘s blog – if not, or if you get lost along the way, go to Paper Issues for the full list.

We’re all using the same sketch and I love seeing how different our LO’s are – it’s so much fun to see all those varying interpretations of one simple template!

My LO not only uses Jennifer’s great sketch, exclusively designed for Paper Issues, but also one of the Simple Scrapper September Story Starters:

home

Anyone who follows me on Facebook or Twitter will already recognize this sweet girl – she went missing for almost a week a little while ago. The hidden journaling on this LO, along with a picture of Rosie the day after she came home, tells that story.

home - journaling

I used Jillibean Soup Alphabeans for the title, along with a Studio Calico house:

home - title

and then outlined the letters with my Faber-Castell Pitt pen.

Some layering and a Studio Calico wood veneer cat at the top to draw you in and I was done!

home - layers

I love working with Jennifer’s sketches – they can be used as is so easily, but they always work when flipped or rotated as well. And when I’m stuck, they always get me creating again! Luckily for all of you, there are two giveways on this blog hop:

PI blog hop badge

You can win either a free one month Premium Membership to Simple Scrapper or digital copies of Everyday Storyteller volumes 1 & 2! All you need to do is:

  1. Like Simple Scrapper on Facebook {tell them Paper Issues sent you}
  2. Like Paper Issues on Facebook
  3. Leave a comment here!

To see more fabulous inspiration and get more chances to win, keep hopping! Your next stop is the Simple Scrapper blog. Enjoy!

Simple Scrapper Blog Hop and GIVEAWAY | June 2013

Blog Hop, Giveaway, Simple Scrapper

ssbloghop-2013The Simple Scrapper Team is back again with a brand new blog hop and chance to win! Use the Rafflecopter widget below to enter a giveaway for a one month trial membership at Simple Scrapper. There are three ways to enter and three winners will be selected. To be eligible, you must enter by 11:59pm CDT on Wednesday, June 5.

But first, welcome! You should have come from Van‘s blog if you’re following along.

NOTE: Suzette, if you’re reading this, STOP NOW! You’ll ruin your birthday present if you keep going! 🙂

Sorry all, had to warn off my best and oldest friend – hopefully she’ll take the hint and go away!

This month had some amazing templates to choose from and it was hard to pick one to work with – I wanted to try them all! I finally chose letter#1 and stretched it into a 12×12:flyI used the newest Paperie club kit along with some Studio Calico PL kit pieces and stamps. I’m still loving the punched borders!

fly - punching & embelliesSome shimmery modeling creme behind the photo to mimic the border punch:

fly - stencilled doily

And great letter stickers for the title finished it off:

fly - title

Don’t you love all the butterfly pins? I stuck them into the paper and taped them down in the back with washi tape – thanks to Cathie for that great idea!

For my story starter this month I decided to do a canvas instead of a traditional LO:

you&me

Almost everything on this one came from a Studio Calico PL kit – don’t you love that big ampersand stamp? It looks amazing when embossed!

you&me - title

I also embossed the paper dolls (love the heart that their hands form) on the journaling tag:

you&me - tag

I tucked the tag behind the photo because 1. it’s what I normally do, and 2. since this a display piece I felt it was better hidden. There’s nothing very secretive written down there, just funny memories I have of the two of us since we were 6!

I finished it off by stamping the sides of the canvas so they wouldn’t be so bare when it was hanging on the wall:

you&me - edges

You really need to go check out the rest of the Design Team’s work if you haven’t already – they’ve done some beautiful work, as always!

Blog Hop, Crop Circles, Giveaway, spring project

crop circles april blog hopWelcome to the April blog hop for Crop Circles! If you’re hopping along you should have come here from Cathy’s blog and her fabulous project. The theme this month is Spring – just right to get us all in the mood for warmer weather and less snow (as if we weren’t already itching for that!).

I had originally done a canvas for this but since I decided to try to submit it, and because it’s for a class I’m teaching at The Paperie retreat the end of this month, I chose to hang onto it and make something else instead.

I’ve been into decorating my front door this year – Christmas, Valentine’s, St. Patrick’s Day, Easter….

The problem is that once Easter was over I was at a loss as to what to hang there next. Well, a spring wreath sounds good to me!

spring wreath

I was lucky enough to get the wreath on sale for less than $2 and then, while watching The Voice last night, I die cut and rolled the flowers from Papertrey Ink 100% wool felt.

spring wreath - flowers

Once they were adhered, I thought the wreath was missing something so I went poking through my stash where I found some soft yellow sheer ribbon – perfect for the pastels I had going on!

At the last minute I added a blingy gem to the bow and finally considered it done.

spring wreath - ribbon

The great thing about this project? It was quick, super easy, and looks fabulous! I don’t know about you, but I wouldn’t want to have to actually buy one like this already made – have you seen what they cost?!?! And let’s be honest, now I have bragging rights to the fact that I actually made it! 🙂

I do have to credit my mom for this idea. She is constantly saying she’s not crafty but at Christmas time she took a wreath like this, painted it white and then added rolled cream felt flowers and a wide red satin ribbon. It was as gorgeous as it sounds, really beautiful!

If you’ve made it this far congrats! Your reward is…. (drum roll)… I’m going to draw for a little Maya Road Prize package! Leave a comment on this post by midnight Newfoundland time, April 12, and you’ll be eligible for this prize plus the grand prize. The more comments you leave along the hop, the more chances you have to win!

Next on the hop is Michelle so head on over there, give her love, and enjoy some more Spring! And if you get lost along the way or encounter a broken link, here’s the full list – enjoy!

Blog Hop, Giveaway, Simple Scrapper, Sketch Templates

ssbloghop-2013The giveaway for this month’s Simple Scrapper blog hop is amazing! Really an awesome one to win so make sure you read all the way to the end to enter for your chance to win!

This month, I made two LO’s from the same sketch so you can see how versatile they are, and one LO from the Story Starters.

All the sketches were letter size, or 8.5 x 11, this month, a size I love! Here’s the first LO I made:

reading rocksThe kiddies love to have stories read to them and they always want to sit on the same sofa no matter who is doing the reading.

I added a little interest to this one with a punched edge and some stapled baker’s twine, a couple of my new favourite things to do!

reading rocks - punched edge

The second LO, as mentioned, is from the same sketch but I made a 12×12:

if you're happySeriously, same sketch! I love how flexible they are!

With this one, I layered a bunch of elements in the top corner and added metallic stitching:

if you're happy - bannersFinally, I did a LO based on one of the Story Starters. This is my brother Matthew and I when we were much younger – my best guess is that this pic was taken early 1979:

why hello thereCome on now, weren’t we the cutest?!?! 🙂

I added lots of dimension and texture here with both the layers of papers and the paint through the stencils:

why hello there - layers
