Crazy Birdie Birthday

Birthday Cards, Crazy Bird Stamps, tags

My kiddos had a birthday party to attend this weekend while I was at The Paperie retreat and since I wasn’t going to be home to get them going on a card, I made one myself (usually they make them).

Our norm around here is not to make cards, but to make long tags that can be used as bookmarks so I followed trend and did the same! We simply write a personal message on the back and it’s good to go!

crazy bird tag

I actually used leftovers from the Kids Birthday Card Class I taught last week – I had a watercolour crazy bird and alcohol inked Shrink Plastic balloon and both were too cute to toss so I stuck them down, added a Happy Birthday and called it done. Super duper simple but it may be one of my faves!

Look at the shine on that Shrink Plastic! I love the translucent colour:

And see the dimension on the Crazy Bird? The dies for these are worth every penny! You can cut out the bird, the eyes, and the wings for every one. I bent up the tip of the wings and tail feathers a little and it’s so easy to keep the eyes white this way:

That’s it! Do your kids make their own cards or are you the supplier? Or do you support Hallmark? LOL

Cheers!

This coming weekend I’m teaching a Birthday Card Class for kids of all ages! We’ll be making ten cards and getting messy in the process – my favourite way to create!

2015-09-08 08.55.27

Although I’ll be teaching a bunch of different techniques, all the cards can be decorated in almost any way. I’ll have some stamps available but they can be mixed and matched as people want.

2015-09-08 15.49.02We’ll be playing with Distress Stains, Crazy Birds stamps, Inktense watercolour pencils, embossing powders, alcohol inks, Ranger Shrink plastic, and more!

2015-09-15 11.43.25Plus, we’ll be making fun and crazy monsters:

2015-09-09 14.03.10And a few space alien monsters with crazy eyes!

2015-09-08 11.59.33If you’re in need of some creative time and/or some birthday cards (or just fun How are you? cards) then come and play on Sunday at The Paperie. You can even bring your favourite little or big person to join you!

Cheers!

Yer Best Kind, b’ys!

Hahaha! Are all the non-Newfoundlanders confused yet? Roughly translated, that means, “You are all the finest of people!” Want to know some more traditional Newfoundland phrases and words? Check this out!

There’s actually a reason I started this post like that and it all has to do with Valentine’s. A local company here, Newfoundland Chocolate Company, made special Love Bars this year and they were hugely popular. As in couldn’t keep them in stock and they have been sent all around the world popular. And they’re delicious – milk chocolate (normally not my thing) filled with salted caramel. Seriously yummy!

They made several different labels – Luvs Ya, Kiss me Luh, Me Trout, and of course, Best Kind (side note: the most popular was Arse on Dat, hahaha!). I grabbed a bunch of Best Kind bars and made cards for the parents of the kids I look after.

valentine's cardsI had some watercolour paper I had painted and embossed and demoed on so I used that for my punched green hearts. Then I used old glitter wrap for the other hearts:\

valentine's cards insideI love how they turned out – they still make me giggle, lol!

The Paperie | January Card Kit (part 2)

Apparently, I loved the January Card kit:

leftovers

Yup. That and two envelopes are all I have left. Garbage scraps, nothing more.

Gabe and I sat down because he wanted to make something for The Paperie. I hadn’t used the wood veneer ribbons or the envelopes so I snagged a pink envelope and I gave him what I had left. Gabe wanted to make an envelope and bookmark for some one special. ๐Ÿ™‚

i love you front

He had fun with the stamps – the flower he coloured in with markers and he fell in love with the Gold Delicata ink when he stamped the chevrons. Which meant he needed to use it again for the speech balloon:

i love you back

He insisted on a pretty bookmark so used the small Prima Valentine’s girl from my stash for it:

bookmark front

And he signed and stamped the back:

bookmark back

My creation is completely boring in comparison:

valentine envelope front

I plan to pop a special note in here for Molly and maybe a gift card for us to go do something together. I added a speech balloon to the flap for easy opening:

valentine envelope back

And that’s it, no more January card kit shares – there simply isn’t enough product left to play with! I think there are more at the store to buy so make sure you give them a call and snag one while you can!

Cheers!

Sara

P.S. The other projects I made from the kit can be found here and here!

The Paperie | January Card Kit

Card Kit, Julie Nutting Doll Stamps, Prima, Stampendous Embossing Enamel, The Paperie

It’s back to the daily grind my friends! I took a couple of weeks off over Christmas and although it was busy, as Christmas always is, it was also relaxing and fun. I’m sad it’s over but excited to get into the new year and new classes – there are some awesome ones lined up at The Paperie!

To start things off with a bang, here are some of the last projects I made with the January Card Kit – I was so productive that I couldn’t get everything made in time for my deadline! To see everything else I made, you can check out this post or pop into the Paperie for the real items. Like what you see? You can call them to get one held for you and then you can show me how you worked with it!

First, a small lunchbox note:

the best

I heat embossed the flower from the included stamp set using Stampendous Aged Silver Embossing Enamel – I love the black bits!

Next up, a small tag to hang on a birthday gift. I used a Darcie’s Stamp Set I gave Gabe for Christmas and paper pieced a fun knight (sorry for the wonky exclamation mark and blurry photo, getting decent light here lately has been a challenge!):

hb2u

To add a bit of shine, I coloured parts of the suit with my Uniball Silver Gel Penย (The Paperie also carries Gold!):

hb2u shine

Finally, another stamp Gabe got for Christmas, the Toby stamp from Prima by Julie Nutting:

happy day

This is a full length tag made from paper in the kit. We usually use these instead of cards on birthday gifts and tell the recipient to use it as a bookmark!

And that’s it – I pretty much only have scraps left! That’s what I love best about Card Kits; they’re smaller than regular page kits so you can bring one to a crop, make a bunch of stuff, and be done with it – hardly any leftovers to worry about!

I’ll be back here again tomorrow with some new Simple Scrapper LO’s and news so make sure you stop back.

Cheers!

LO kit, School, The Paperie

See this peeps? I’m back posting when I said I would – woop woop! Miracles happen everyday! ๐Ÿ™‚ This is a pretty photo heavy post so grab a cup, relax, and enjoy!

This school kit was released this past weekend and there are limited quantities available at The Paperie (with more LO kits and themes to come!). It’s the perfect time to work on this type of LO since school has been in, around here anyway, for a couple of weeks and everyone is settled in to the routines again. Time to scrap those first day of school memories!

This year my baby started kindergarten – school for the first time!

1st Day Ever

I had a bunch of pictures but didn’t want to put them all front and centre so I used my favourite trick – a mini album stashed in an envelope that doubles as a photo mat!

1st Day Ever mini

I left the chipboard Thickers as is, for the most part, just added my usual dotty doodles:

1st Day Ever alphas

The second LO in the kit totally broke my mold and has 5 pictures on it! It also has a Dr. Seuss quote though you could, of course, add whatever title of quote you wished using the pack of Thickers included:

You'll Move Mountains

This time I added some shimmer to the chipboard alphas – I love how this makes them look!

You'll Move Mountains alphas

I didn’t add extra hidden photos this time but I did use a chevron envelope for some journaling:

You'll Move Mountains envelope

To finish off the kit I made lunchbox notes instead of the usual cards:

you xoxo i heart u hi

Along with the little ones, I also made a bigger notecard that could be used as a lunchbox note or a regular card:

#1Whew! That was a lot of pics and if you want some more, check out my Flickr stream!

Back soon with my latest Distress Renewed Class – Distress Ink Part 2!

Cheers!

Let’s Hear it for the Girls!

A while back I posted a class I taught at The Paperie, Let’s Hear it for the Boys! Well, I’m finally getting around to sharing the second class, Let’s Hear it for the Girls!

As a bonus, we also made this one a LO kit and I think there might be a couple left at the store! You get everything you need to complete the LO’s and cards, plus full colour, step by step instructions – go grab one while you can!

be yourselfThis first one is pretty simple but the background paper was so gorgeous I couldn’t cover up much of it!

I added some fun shimmer mist droplets and sequins for sparkle:

be yourself sequinsAnd the Thickers in the kit are an awesome colour:

be yourself titleThe second LO is a little more involved with some fussy cutting of elements:

all of youI couldn’t resist cutting out one of the cute foxes and the chevron arrows were just asking to be used!

all of you foxThere’s also a great geotag clip in the kit and I got it to stand out by backing the heart with a scrap of patterned paper:

all of you clipFinally, I made two cards – one was a birthday theme of course, because you can never have enough birthday cards!

happy dayAnd the second is a pretty generic one using those cute foxes again!

hello friendOnce the LO’s and cards were made, there was still a ton of stuff left over for more cards or Project Life inserts – awesome value! The only thing not included in the kit were the mists that I used for droplets and the adhesive. It’s the perfect thing to take to a friend’s house for a night of scrapping or when you just want to do something but don’t want to think too hard about it! ๐Ÿ˜‰

If you like this type of kit you’re in luck – I’m going to be doing more for The Paperie! We released a Back 2 School kit this past weekend at the Sunshine Foundation Crop and Silent Auction fundraiser and there are more in the works! I’ll post the School kit here on Wednesday so stop back then to check it out.

Cheers!

Happy Birthday, Party Girl!

Molly has a birthday party tonight and normally she makes all her own cards but she went straight to a friend’s house after school today so I was on card duty.

Seriously, I couldn’t tell you the last time I made a card to give away – my kids make them all!

I only had about ten minutes but I really wanted to play with The Paperie Retreat exclusive paper doll card kit. This is what I came up with:

party girl cardLet me tell you, I felt like I was five again – I loved cutting out all those little pieces for the clothes and glittering up her shoes!

party girl closeup

Quick and easy, but I think it’s pretty cute. ๐Ÿ™‚

Let’s Hear it for the Boys!

boys, cards, Scrapbook Layout

I taught a super fun class a week or so ago, one that I loved designing as it was a little out of my wheelhouse – it was all about boys!

If you’re a scrapper or cardmaker I know that you know what I’m talking about – boy stuff is hard! We love our embellishments and flowers and hearts and glitter and… Yeah, not so masculine!

So I decided to have a class that centered all around boy LO’s and cards. Here’s what we made!

A bunch of arrows and a bright and colourful grounding line made of banners:

urock

The arrows are attached to the photo which is mounted on an envelope to add more space for extra pictures or journaling:

urock embellies

The second LO has a fun line of squares:

jump 4 joy

And we kept the embellies simple with mist, enamel dots, and skinny striped washi tape:

jump 4 joy embellies

The cards had a big focus on the alpha stickers:

happy birthday

and arrows:

your own way

I’m starting to think towards to second class in this mini series: Let’s Hear it for the Girls! I have some awesome paper pulled and can’t wait to start getting glittery! ๐Ÿ™‚
