Since Cathie, Krista, and I had so much fun a couple of weeks ago with the impromptu Bash Your Stash blog hop, other people wanted in on the fun too so today you’re getting a bunch of us!

For this week, I pulled out some super old, 2008 or earlier old, Basic Grey (Bittersweet) and Scenic Route (Loveland) paper. Both are Valentine’s themed but I used them to scrap one of Miss M’s 4th birthday pics.

Once again I did a bunch of layers – really starting to get the hang of it now and loving it!

I stuck on some gold chevron washi tape:

and some Uniball Signo Gold gel pen:

Added some pink twine because Krista has me hooked on that technique:

finished it off with some hidden journaling (because, as usual, I forgot the journaling until the LO was done!):

and called it done!

I love how it turned out with the browns and pinks, perfect for my brown-eyed girl and her Strawberry Shortcake birthday cake!

The Paperie is next on the hop so head over there and see what they have!

If you want to start at the beginning and see all the “old made new again”, here’s the full list of participants:

Cathie Reed
Deanne Clarke-Saunders
Karen Young
Krista Wells
Liz Davis
Marg Dinn
Sara Case Strickland <– that’s me!

Enjoy the hop and if you “bash your stash” leave me a link or comment so I can check it out!

Basic Grey, Design Team, The Paperie

Krista blogged her regular 5 for Friday today and one of her 5 was about how a particular card would look great “on a layout-opening up and unfolding like an accordion. It would be a nice way to hide some journaling and supporting photos.”

And I immediately remembered a certain LO I did many years ago.

The Paperie used to have an inhouse design team of which I was a member. I remember applying, then making it as a finalist. The last step I had to go through was to pick up a sample pack, a small kit really, and do a LO – all the finalists got the same kit. I walked into the store to get mine and saw Chris and Janna, the owners, sitting on the sofa that used to be in the old location. And they were watching me intently. Weird. Then I got the kit and they burst out laughing. Apparently they had been doing that all day, just watching the finalists faces as we saw what we had to work with – big, black floral BG paper from the Black Tie collection and super wide black ribbon, among other things. We were all horrified and terrified at the same time. What the heck to make with that?!?!?

Well, here’s what I did (click on any pictures to view them larger):

It was almost a year after our wedding and I had never scrapped this particular picture, taken on the deck of my family cabin. I figured flowers must go with a wedding picture, right? There were more pictures that I wanted to use as well but then, as now, I veered towards single photo LO’s and hidden journalling – so I made an accordion album behind the flower to showcase the other pictures.

And I hid another piece of that floral paper behind the main photo and added my journalling to it.

I called it done and was more than happy to be finished thinking about what to do with that paper! Obviously, it wasn’t a terrible LO since I made the design team and loved every minute of it – though I grumbled a lot under my breath since everything I did those days was full of fussy cutting….. But that’s a post for another day!

Have a great weekend everyone! I’m taking Krista’s kit making class tomorrow and heading out with the kiddies for Pumpkinfest at Lester’s Farm Market – there should (crossing my fingers) be some good pics to show next week!

Basic Grey, Boston Pizza, Janeway Children's Hospital

  • So, I’ve changed my mind about the album I’m using for Week in the Life – I’ve switched to a Simple Stories 6×8 album. There are going to be some challenges with this as I’m still using the daily sheet to record everything and that’s 8.5×11, and I want to include it in the finished album, but I think it’s a good system overall. The Mix and Match Documented album comes with different page protectors, chipboard dividers, and patterned, though neutral, journalling pages. Lots to work with without having to take a lot of time to root through my stash and build my own kit!
  • My god-daughter, Julianne, and her sister, Rachel, are two of the most amazing kids ever. At ages 6 and 8 they have already raised over $22,000 for the Janeway Children’s Hospital. This month, on a very stormy Saturday, they were the celebrity servers at Boston Pizza and that company donated 10% of the receipts taken in during the time the  girls were there. Because it was such an awful day, BP offered to donate 10% of all receipts turned in to Rachel and Julianne’s Special Project during the month of April. So… if you have or will have Boston Pizza receipts from either St. John’s location this month, let me know and I’ll get them from you to pass along!
  • On another note, Julianne won the kids award for volunteering in Portugal Cove-St. Philip’s for all her hard work, the same award Rachel won 2 years ago! Love you, Julianne, we’re so proud of you
  • I did a layout tag in February and never posted the completed LO here, though I did show a sneak peek. Finally, here’s the whole thing:

Madness

It’s a picture of my brothers and I at Matthew’s wedding 2 summers ago. They’re seriously crazy people, it’s almost impossible to get a reasonable picture of the three of us – they’re just nutty!

  • Heading out to The Paperie tonight for a crop night. I’m looking forward to it but have no idea what to bring! I have a LO in mind but it requires my (mom’s!) sewing machine and I’m not dragging that with me so we’ll have to see. Maybe it will be unproductive and I’ll just chat and eat!

Hope you all have a great weekend, whatever your plans!

…for Valentine’s Day!

I was going to do another technique today, but just couldn’t pass up the Valentine’s thing. If you’re craving technique, check my previous posts here, here, and here – that should keep you going until tomorrow! 🙂

So, I knew Valentine’s was coming. I bought little treats for the kiddies, poked them away….. and promptly forgot about the whole thing!

Don’t get me wrong, I like Valentine’s Day. I just don’t get all hyped up about it. The point is, late last night I was up making M and G’s Valentine’s. And D’s is the technique for this week!

Valentine's

Also, since I forgot all about today, I didn’t get my kiddies on the ball making Valentine’s for their little friends or make the cupcakes for the party we always have. That meant Valentine’s making instead of cereal for breakfast and cupcake making with a crew of  (not very helpful) helpers this morning!

Valentine Cupcakes

Long story short, we got it all done, including making these cards, ate copious amounts of sugar, and, due to changing the topic at the last minute, this post is very, very late – sorry!

Hope you all have a very Happy Valentine’s Day with whomever or whatever you love – friends, family, pets, books…

Sara

P.S. The Valentine’s were made with this Hero Arts Stamp, Basic Grey Sugar Rush papers, Stampin’ Up! gems, and Sakura Gelly Rollers (I use medium for colouring) and Stardust Pens.

The cupcakes are this recipe (but made with rice flour and xanthan gum) and the frosting is this recipe (again with the rice flour!). These really are the best – even gluten free – with wheat, they’re to die for!
