Distress Markers, Ranger, The Paperie, Year Long Album

Just some odds and ends, random stuff for today!

Saturday there was a day long crop held at The Paperie and we had a blast! I made a couple of cards, played with Distress Markers (and made 2 people buy the whole canister of 37!), and made my LO for the Designer Duo class Cathie and I are co-teaching this coming Sunday.

Here are some sneaks of the LO:

This is going to be a super fun class because we both have the same products and totally different styles. At the class everyone gets some great product (patterned papers, wood paper, letter stickers, a stencil from The Crafter’s Workshop), two completed LO’s and two different teachers – all for $35 if you’re a member! That’s a steal, my friend, trust me! 🙂 And Cathie is amazingly talented, you’ll all love her LO and great techniques!

Also on Saturday I got a text from D saying he was facing the Spanish Inquisition – I’ll do another post on that later today so watch out for it! M is pretty funny, just sayin’!

Finally, we had another 2012 Yearlong Album class yesterday and we did a bonus page along with the regular monthly LO:

It was a last minute addition (truly, I thought about it at 11:30 the night before and did the LO during our lunch break!). I thought it would be good to do a few of these throughout the year in case anyone wanted to highlight a particular story or event. They could also be mounted on a 12×12 background and used for other albums!

I’m posting it here for those people who missed yesterday’s class – for that crowd, be on the lookout for the .pdf with picture and instructions later this week in your email.

I’ll be back tomorrow with some more fun dry embossing techniques so be sure to come back and check that out!

7 Gypsies, Simple Stories, Year Long Album

Anyone have exciting weekend plans?

Big, long weekend for me. Tomorrow I’m doing an Emergency Child First Aid course, which starts at 8:30. 😦 And goes all, I mean *all* day. I know I need to do it but I can think of a zillion other ways I’d rather spend my Saturday. Like being at gymnastics with the kiddies, and picking up my groceries, and some actual fun stuff too! Oh well, it’s just one day, right?

Sunday is more fun – it’s the Year Long Album class at The Paperie! We’re going to be doing March and April this time, to get ahead of the game. Hopefully next month we’ll get the covers done and then it’s easy, laid back classes for the rest of the year (I can hear some class members laughing at me now!)

Finally, I’m working away at the revamped Artist Printer Tray class – here’s a sneak of it:

Sneak Peek!

The Paperie should have a different sneak peek up on their blog sometime today too if you want a bit more eye candy! Remember, we still have some space available so contact The Paperie to sign up – this is a fun project, and a great keeper or gift!

Hope you all have a great weekend, and that it’s more fun than parts of mine will be!

Thank You and a New Class

BirthdayCake, cards, Gelly Roll, Lawn Fawn, Sakura, Simple Stories, Stardust, Year Long Album

First off, this is for all of you:

thanks!

Thanks so much for the wonderful birthday greetings and love for the stitched tag tutorial – it’s ones of my faves now and I know I’ll be using that technique a lot. And it was so nice to get happy messages in my comments all day! Also, Lawn Fawn stamps and Sakura pens? Perfect pairing!

Second, let’s talk about Sunday and the first 2012 Yearlong Album Class at The Paperie!

(As an aside, I believe – but I could be wrong – there are a few slightly modified Yearlong Album kits if you want to join in but can’t make the time commitment or live too far away or just want the paper and album to play with! Just contact Meghan at The Paperie if you’re interested and we’ll see what we can do.)

We were an almost full house – 20 people are registered for the 11 classes and 18 were able to make it on Sunday. It was a tight fit but we all got cozy with each other – I know some new friends were made pretty quickly in those close quarters!

Close Quarters!

We got a lot done – the cover page,

Cover Page

the January spread,

January

and the February spread.

February

It was fun and productive though I’m sure for a couple of the newbies it was a bit overwhelming – these classes can get loud and they’re pretty fast paced! Everyone got through it though, and we got a start on all of the calendar pages too – I call that a successful class!

Working away...

Finally, I got a couple of surprise birthday cakes near the end – my friend Lori and my mom both had the same idea and brought in the chocolate, which was definitely well received by all!

Chocolate Cake!

I hope you all have a wonderful Leap Day!

Kiddies, kids, Simple Stories, Year Long Album

Oh yes, it’s Friday….

Thank goodness!

I’m sleepy today, up until about 2am working on a little something:

Then M had kinderstart this morning. And when I say she’s like cold molasses in the morning, I mean she’s like it’s frozen – she ain’t movin’!

Then lunch took forever, so it was late…

Should I continue?

Here’s hoping this evening is less…. Just less.

Sunday is the first 2012 Yearlong Class! The paper is a.maz.ing. Really. And the kit is chock full. And it has a great surprise! I left a hint about what it is somewhere today, can anyone guess? 😉

1. D was just approved to teach a course at College of the North Atlantic in Studio Photography Techniques Level 1 – very excited with and for him, especially since he developed the class himself! If you’re in and around St. John’s, it runs Monday nights from May 7 – June 18, with a break May 21 for the long weekend, and it will be in a full photography studio. If I knew anything about f-stops and apertures, I’d probably be doing it myself… 🙂

2. It’s finally a nice winter’s day! No wind, fairly warm (for winter!), enough snow but not too much… Perfect! Which means cabin fever has been relieved and the kiddies enjoyed a good time in the backyard going down the slide (yeah, never got around to putting it away in the fall!), shovelling with the sand shovels (ditto), and throwing snow in each others faces.

3. My nephew placed third in his Kiwanis Music Competition for piano! Way to go N! We’re so proud of you!

4. Is there any need? I know we don’t let them outdoors, but you’d swear they were mistreated prisoners willing to do anything to escape.

Rosie - escape artist wannabe

5. I’ve decided to do Project 365 (well, that would be Project 366 this year!) I know you’re thinking, “Little late to the game, sister!” but, although I have pics for almost every day so far this year, I’m going to start on my birthday at the end of the month. I figured that since I take all these pics anyway, I might as well look organized and committed to a project, right?

6. I have one more set of instructions to write for the new Yearlong Album Class on Sunday – and I have to head into The Paperie tonight to get them all kitted up. We were worried that a special addition to the kit was going to be late, but it arrived just in time – yay!

Hope you’re all enjoying your day, wherever that may be! And if it’s a warm place, please invite me to visit – I’ll beg if necessary! 🙂

Hug Life

American Crafts, Amy Tan, Amy Tangerine, Bowring Park, Daybook, Paperie, ScrapBook, Thickers, Year Long Album

(EDIT: Today seems to be the day to showcase crop night LO’s! Check out this and this.)

Friday night I went to a crop night at my LSS, The Paperie. It’s always the third Friday night of the month and it’s always fun and yummy – great combination!

This time we talked and talked and talked and laughed and laughed and laughed – and actually got some scrapbooking done too!

One of the projects I was picking away at was the Hug Life Daybook from Amy Tangerine for American Crafts (a larger version of the one I tore apart for this LO).

These are the best mini albums – surprisingly big, as in tons of pages, and very eclectic.

There are pockets and grid papers and tickets and rounded papers and scalloped papers….. So different, so very fun.

I am using the November kit from the Paperie and I *love* it. The papers, the stamp, the thickers, the mixtape – awesome!

Just before the kit was released, we spent a day in Bowring Park with the kiddies taking pictures of them in the leaves. Then we headed to Lester’s Farm for pumpkin pics and baked goodies, along with yummy fresh veggies.

The pictures from that day perfectly matched the colours of the the kit papers and so instead of a LO, I decided to do a mini album.

It’s still not finished, but I’m loving what I have done. The pictures are most definitely the focus, not the papers or embellishments, and  there’s plenty of room to do journaling as I go along.

So…. so far, so good. It will be a fun one to flip through when I’m done. And because the different papers make it so easy, it’s a good one to poke at when midnight rolls around and the brain has gone to mush!

My plans for naptime today and this evening revolve around writing instructions for the 2012 Yearlong album – the first class is Sunday. Hate the writing instructions part – love the teaching it part!

Enjoy the cold today if that’s your cup of tea. Me? I’m freezing!

Distress Ink, Embossing, Family, Hero Arts, kids, Paperie, Papertrey Ink, Ranger, Scor Bug, Scor Pal, Simple Stories, Stamps, Year Long Album

1. We have a bunch of tired kiddies here this morning. P & C, the two I take care of, are having a sleepover for “3 sleeps” while their parents are in New Brunswick house hunting. That boils down to mean M & G are losing their buddies mid-March – we’re sad. 😦 Last night was the first “sleep” night here and we’re all dragging a little today!

2. I’m looking forward to Crop Night at The Paperie tomorrow – it’s fun to be with friends and there’s always a midnight snack afterwards! Call and sign up by this afternoon if you want in on the fun too – come on, you know you want to! 🙂

3. I started on the March LO for the 2012 Yearlong Album last night using the amazing Year-o-graphy line…

March sneak peek

4. And that leads me into… I love having my Scrap Cave (which it will now be officially know as) almost cleaned and organized! I’m actually getting work done and not messing up the kitchen! And that means I don’t have to pack everything up and drag it back to the Cave all the time! Yay! When I get the bags of donations out of there and the final bits tidied away, I’ll post an updated picture. Oh, and it really is a cave as I share it with the storage room and the freezer, but it has a door. A real door! That keeps little children out! Can you tell how exciting that is to me?!?!

5. I made this quick card the other day – super simple but I love how it turned out. More clear embossed resist (told you it was a good and effective one!) but without the trapped stamping underneath. Of all the types of the cards there are, I really hate making sympathy ones at the time I need them. Those, I like to have a stockpile of and I’m all out. This one was a prototype that I liked so I think I’ll churn out a few this evening, or tomorrow at the crop night.

With Heartfelt Sympathy

Scor Bug Detail

I used Papertrey Ink stamps, Hero Arts embossing powder and heat gun, Ranger Distress Inks, and a Scor-Bug.

6. As I was typing this up just now, my computer rebooted for “necessary updates.” Really computer? In the middle of my blog post before I saved it? Hmmmm…

Hope you all have an interesting thing-filled day – tell me some of your good things!

Things on Thursday – CHA Edition!

Basically Bare, BoBunny, Distress Ink, Distress Markers, Heidi Swapp, October Afternoon, Ranger, ScrapBook, Simple Stories, Stampin' Up, Studio Calico, Tim Holtz, Unity Stamp Co., Washi Tape, Year Long Album

The Craft and Hobby Association (CHA) just finished up their big show in Florida where manufacturers released their new product for the year. I thought I would give you a run down of my needs!

As an aside, I had an entertaining email chat with a friend (Hi Cathie!) about the difference between wants and needs and she agrees with my reasonings for the needs list. Now I’m fully justified in buying!

1. Distress Markers. Yes, I own a zillion Stampin’ Up markers, but these are different, really and truly. They match all my Distress Ink pads! And there’s a white one too!

2. Studio Calico wood veneer shapes. I love these, they take mist and ink beautifully and look great just left plain. They’re the perfect embellishment. And they’re releasing people and cameras – perfect for my Yearlong Album!

3. October Afternoon SprINKlers. I admit to a slight problem – when I love something, I must have it in every colour (case in point, Distress Ink). And I really love the chalk finish and quick drying time of SprINKlers. Plus the new colours are amazing!

4. Heidi Swapp Memory File. I was shocked by this one, shocked. Love the system and think it’s brilliant, though I know I’ll never do it (but it really is genius). What I really want are the FotoStacks – again, perfect for the Yearlong Album.

5. Simple Stories/Unity Stamp Company. I love Simple Stories – we’re using the Year.o.graphy line for the 2012 Yearlong album – and Unity makes really great rubber stamps, so to get both in one product? Awesome! Especially when they make these, maybe my favourite release of CHA.

6. BoBunny Vintage Double Dot Cardstock. The DoubleDot has been my favourite go to cardstock – great weight, great colours, great tone on tone patterns. And now, just when I thought it couldn’t get better, it’s vintage!

7. Now, that’s not my full list, there’s still Tim Holtz/Idea-ology Chitchat Word Stickers, and washi tape galore, Basically Bare albums, Simple Stories everything (especially the pockets), stamps….. it’s all bad people, it’s all bad!

Let me know what’s on your want/need list, I may have to add it to my own! 🙂

…I am cold. We all bundled up and went out to slide and play in the snow that was dropped on us yesterday. Unfortunately, the wind is bitter cold and now I can’t warm up again. Brrrrrr.

…I can’t type very well and am making lots of spelling errors. That just may have something to do with the two-year-old who is determined to sit on my lap today.

G & Mama

Don’t you just love his new “smile for the camera” face? Cracks me up every time! Does not amuse his photographer father as much, especially since I think it’s so funny that I keep asking for it! Ha! 🙂

…we’re having mac & cheese for lunch, with peanut butter and chocolate chip cookies for dessert. Comfort food for a cold day and something that is always devoured by the kiddies. That being said, they do just as well with broccoli and spinach too. But I digress…

…M is having a bad day. Enough said. Sigh.

…it’s very loud. Well, that’s par for the course so I don’t know why I’m even mentioning it. Moving along….

…I started this class. It’s good so far and I’m looking forward to more inspiration!

…I’m plugging away at the 2012 Album and getting frustrated. Luckily, I can turn to my graphic designer husband to do cover pages for me!

Cover Page Sneak Peek

…the playroom has had cow and dog races (the cow always wins and apologizes to the dog), monsters eating trophies, storms destroying the train tracks (“Really, Mama, it wasn’t me, it was the storm!), and pirates making little boys walk the plank. Never a dull moment.

Wishing you all a day that is warmer but just as entertaining as mine!

Cosmo Cricket, Kraft Glassine, October Afternoon, Paperie, Perfect Pearls, Sticky Back Canvas, Technique Tuesday, We R Memory Keepers, Year Long Album

Yesterday was the last class for the 2011 Year Long Album at The Paperie. And as much as I loved the project and the papers, I’m glad it’s finally over  and I can say goodbye to it and hello to the 2012 Year Long Album. As I told the girls yesterday, by the end of the year, I am so done with looking at the same papers! That being said, what we used was perfect and looked amazing – October Afternoon and Cosmo Cricket Collection Packs (these looked like they were designed to go together!), October Afternoon Label Stickers, American Crafts 12×12 Modern Album in Cardinal, and We R Memory Keepers page protectors. Then we added to the base kit as we went along – some of the extras were Perfect Pearls Pigment Kits, Technique Tuesday stamp sets, and Sticky Back Canvas.

Here’s a quick look at what we accomplished over the past year:

Album Cover

Inside Cover

The October Afternoon Collection Pack came with two of these die cut houses showing the outside and inside of the house. They may have been my favourite part of the kit! We added some gingerbread trim, cut open the door and added a dog on a rug. For the back cover, we flipped the house over and added our own family pictures to the living room!

October

This is one of a favourite spreads – I love the canvas pumpkins and ghosts! The Distress Inks over the canvas gave an amazing texture. The leaves are Kraft Glassine and Perfects Pearls and have a great shine and colour in real life. As you can see, I haven’t quite finished putting all my pictures in the album. With the exception of December, they’re all printed and ready to go, I’m just a month or two behind!

Getting fat!

Between each double spread, I inserted an 8.5 x 11 page protector to hold the kiddies art pieces, birthday cards, loot bags and party invitations I made, and all sorts of bits and bobs that normally get stuffed into a cupboard somewhere! The album is a great place to store them and keep them organized but it leads to a very fat book – and I don’t have the November or December stuff in there yet, yikes!

However, apart from another hour’s work inserting pictures, it’s finished! Now, onto the next one, I have big things planned for the basic kit! 😉

2012 Year Long Album Peek

Have a great one – the weather is beautiful for sliding here today!
