While at the Paperie retreat last month I managed to do a bunch of LO’s – way more than I usually do. Some were already started (from the KP weekend) so just need pics to be finished off, some were demos (showing the Primary Elements) that I wanted to complete, and others were from scratch.

This one is from the exclusive retreat kit that the Paperie sold – they did a scrapbook kit and a card kit (yes, they’re starting a bimonthly card kit!) and the stuff in both was awesome!

The scrapbook kit had 12×12 paper that could be cut into tags and, while I always love that type of paper, I find that I use one or two tags and that’s it. This time I was determined to use the whole sheet. So it became my background!

For a bit of colour contrast, I rolled the edges of the paper I used to mat and ground my photos because the “B” side was a good pop to the “A” side pattern. And the Prima Β alpha stickers that came in the kit? Fabulous! They’re a mistable fabric resist that I just had to colour with the new Dylusions Ink Spray.

I also used the same colour, Calypso Teal, for the letters in the title.

A bit of a crazy LO but the fun wonkiness seemed to fit with the crazy Gabe pictures!

I’m hoping to get a sneak peek or two out in the next day or so of an upcoming class. This is going to be a great ongoing project, but all the work is done for you! It’s a 7 Gypsies Library Drawer and we’ll fill it with written and photo memories. The nice thing? You can do it for a year, or three, or just one special event! Sign up, I promise you won’t regret it! Plus we’ll be playing with the new Tim Holtz Remnant Rubs, Luminarte Primary Elements, and Radiant Rain Shimmering Mists! Make sure you follow me on twitter and instagram so you get the peeks as soon as I post them!

S.

P.S. By request, I’m going right now to upload Ella pictures to Flickr!

An update, brownies, and a class I took…

Sorry for the little blog break here – I’ve been crazy busy since returning from Orlando and there just aren’t enough hours in the day…

I’ve been completing the few unfinished projects from the show – I made 7 mini albums plus other items so there was a lot of little odds and ends that needed a final touch or two!

Bazzill – Christmas Lickety Slip Album

Creative Imaginations – Beautiful You Mixed Media Album

Basically Bare and Graphic 45 – Nutcracker Suite Easel Album

7 Gypsies and Canvas Corp – Epicurean Library Drawer

Creative Imaginations – Holly Jolly Altered Album

I’m only showing you the sneaks here of a few things but if you want the full reveal, all the details, and to hear about the fun we had then you need to sign up for the Show and Tell at The Paperie on Tuesday, October 23! I think there may be some giveaways too…. πŸ™‚

I’m heading over to have wine and chit chat with a friend tonight so I thought I’d bring some goodies with me – brownies!

Brownie Batter!

I took two of my favourite recipes, made a change or two and combined them to make gluten freeΒ mascarpone brownies with ricotta topping. They look and smell yummy and I’ll post an update later with how they taste! I already know the batter was good….

And they really should be good because if there’s one thing I know how to bake well, it’s brownies! That’s not ego my friends, it’s just the simple truth! πŸ™‚ But I can’t roast a chicken to save my life….Β UPDATE: They are the bomb…. πŸ™‚

yummy, yummy in my tummy!

Finally, I carved out a little time on Saturday morning to take a class from my friend Rae Lynn, the queen of clean and simple LO’s – her work is always gorgeous! She has started a new class series to do a Book of Me and the two LO’s we did are awesome!

I only took one picture with me for the class but the sweater I was wearing was the perfect colour for the papers and since Miss Smarty Pants Rae Lynn brought her camera and Canon Selphy printer, we took a snap, printed it and I was in business! It always feels good to go home with a completed LO!

i am…

I changed this second one a little – the background paper was a light tan/brown and I had a piece of Bo Bunny Vintage Double Dot paper that was the exact shade of my shirt so I used that instead. Also, I think I’m going to change the title to “An unexpected pleasure” and do my journalling on one thing rather than do a list of several “simple pleasures.” I could have had this one done but I was really uncertain about the journalling and decided that focusing on one unexpected pleasure – my camera – would work better for me for this LO. So now that I’ve settled on that, it will be done tonight, RLOK, I promise!

an unexpected pleasure

I love how the bright background paired with the black title, splatters, and stars make my camera pop!

And that’s been my life this week, crazy and full – how have you all been?

G in Salmon Cove

7 Gypsies, beach, Ranger, Salmon Cove, Simple Stories

A few weekends ago my oldest friend and I took our kiddies to the beach. Of course, it rained the whole time so there was no beach and water play, but we managed to have fun and get in one stroll along the sand.

When I went to make the project for the latest Yearlong Class at The Paperie, I knew I had to use a picture of G from the walk.

Instead of a regular LO this past month (we’re a little ahead of the game!) I decided to do a shadowbox project instead. It’s super simple, so easy to replicate for gifts and it looks great!

The large opening is 4×6 and the smaller ones are not quite 2×2. The size and depth of the openings are perfect for things like a vial of sand, which I have (but need to fill the next time we go!), or baby bands from the hospital for a birth present. Loads of options, and these trays come in black or white.

We jazzed up the white ones a little with some tissue tape around the full exterior and the interior of each opening.

I love how it turned out, and the ones from class were amazing! Just changing up the tissue tape made a huge difference to the final look.

I’m hoping to get my hands on a couple more – I’m thinking Christmas gifts already!

Tuesday Techniques – Finishing Touches: Dimension

27 Tuesday Mar 2012

Dimension on a project or LO immediately takes it to the next level. It goes from “nice” to “wow,” from boring to interesting, Β from “I guess I like it” to “Love that!”

And it’s probably the easiest thing in the world to add.

After I finish something, I look at it, then start pulling pieces off to add foam adhesive. I learned a long time ago to never permanently adhere anything right away!

There are many ways to add dimension, but I’ll show my two favourites today. All you need is:

Supplies

Sticker Paper, foam adhesive, and scissors.

To give you a good look at how dimension adds to a project, here’s a tag with everything adhered straight to the surface:

Cute, right?

But kind of dull – no oomph to it!

After I added another layer of grass, popped it up, cut out the clouds and popped them up, then fanned out my balloons by using circles punched from the sticker paper, this is what I got:

Better, right?

Way more pizzazz! All the elements are exactly the same, I only added foam adhesive and a twine ribbon – that’s it. As I said, easiest thing in the world so go try it!

Tomorrow, I’m teaching the revamped 7 Gypsies and Simple Stories ATC Tray class – I love how it turned out! I’m cutting kits tonight so there’s still time to sign up at The Paperie!

We’ll be heat embossing, distressing, cutting, stickling, and more! And if you can’t make it tomorrow, call and ask for a kit – everything you need is included!

Leave me a link if you try the technique – I’d love to see your projects!

Friday Randomness…

7 Gypsies, Simple Stories, Year Long Album

Anyone have exciting weekend plans?

Big, long weekend for me. Tomorrow I’m doing an Emergency Child First Aid course, which starts at 8:30. 😦 And goes all, I mean *all* day. I know I need to do it but I can think of a zillion other ways I’d rather spend my Saturday. Like being at gymnastics with the kiddies, and picking up my groceries, and some actual fun stuff too! Oh well, it’s just one day, right?

Sunday is more fun – it’s the Year Long Album class at The Paperie! We’re going to be doing March and April this time, to get ahead of the game. Hopefully next month we’ll get the covers done and then it’s easy, laid back classes for the rest of the year (I can hear some class members laughing at me now!)

Finally, I’m working away at the revamped Artist Printer Tray class – here’s a sneak of it:

Sneak Peek!

The Paperie should have a different sneak peek up on their blog sometime today too if you want a bit more eye candy! Remember, we still have some space available so contact The Paperie to sign up – this is a fun project, and a great keeper or gift!

Hope you all have a great weekend, and that it’s more fun than parts of mine will be!

Things on Thursday…

7 Gypsies, Artist Printer's Tray, Creative Chemistry 101, Kiddies, kids, Northridge Publishing, Online Card Classes, The Paperie

1.Β I’M BEING PUBLISHED!!!!!! Yes, that was me screaming and yelling and doing a happy dance! It’s not out until August and don’t worry, I’ll be sure to remind you all! Thank you, Northridge Publishing, for liking my work! (Insert blushing smiley face here!)

2. One little downside to the publishing thing – though since I get to play with paper some more it’s not really a downside – I have to remake the class I’m teaching next week. That’s right, any of you who have signed up for my Artist Printer Tray class at The Paperie, you’re doing a soon to be published project, that will now be a bit different! We’re still using the same papers, but I have to change up the design for you all a bit. Side note: We still have space available for that class, so sign up, it’s a great home decor piece (I can say it’s great now, because someone else loves it too!) and it would make an awesome Mother’s Day present!

3. We have a multitude of couches, tons of chairs, and several beds in this house. And this is where G chooses to read:

Boys.

4. M & P have taken to colouring in the same book at the same time. They sit at the corner of the table so they can turn the book just so and colour away. They’re getting really good too, even though M says she doesn’t like colouring!

5. Β I know I mentioned this class in passing but I am *loving* the Tim Holtz Creative Chemistry Class through Online Card Classes! Brilliant videos, awesome, easy to understand information, great PDF’s for reference. Anyone who works with ink should do this course, especially scrapbooking or craft store owners and instructors. I can guarantee this class will help you better understand inks, their properties, how to use them, and in return, how to sell them better and make yourself more money!

I’m doing the interactive class, which means I’m doing it live, as it’s posted, but you can sign up anytime and do the course at your own pace. The only difference is that the forums are closed. You can still read everything (and Tim answers any question people have) but you can’t comment yourself.

6. Did I mention I was getting published? πŸ™‚

7 Gypsies, Daily Dozen, Simple Stories

Anyone else have these?

It was a busy weekend, fun, but busy, and with the time change and the non stop action, I feel like I haven’t had a break. Yawning this morning.

That being said, I’m looking forward to joining Krista (and many others!) in this today – I already have a pic or two of Miss M and so far it looks like it will be fun! I’ll post my 12 pictures tomorrow.

The Inspiration Showcase Canvas Class yesterday was a hit and went smoothly, although it’s been proved that I can’t count stars very well! πŸ™‚

I have another class coming up later this month, and so more die cutting is in my future. I should really plan these things better….

And finally, check out Colleen’s blog today. I think her mantra philosophy works for most occasions, not just running!

Classes and some stamp tips…

7 Gypsies, Artist Printer's Tray, Classes, Cruising Through Life, Lawn Fawn, Simple Stories, The Paperie, Year.o.graphy

A little while ago, I taught a class where we made a LO and a card using the Lawn Fawn Cruising Through Life stamp set. The best part? Everyone got a stamp set to take home!

This is a seriously cute set – a bicycle, pinwheels, flowers. Really, what’s not to like?

For the life of me, I can’t find the card, but here’s the LO:

Cruising Through Life

There’s some extreme paper piecing happening here – every individual flower, the bike basket, the clouds, all the bike parts: handles, pedal, frame. I don’t think I was very popular at first but luckily, everyone loved the results! πŸ™‚

It’s one of those LO’s that at first glance looks easier than it really is. It’s the final details that make it pop, like the glossy accents over the bike frame, the popped up basket and clouds, the button sun.

Here’s a little stamp tip – make the stamps do what you want, not what you think they were meant to do. For example, I made the butterflies from the heart and exclamation point that are in theΒ set and I cut the sentiment in half so it fit the space I had.

All in all, worth the time, I think!

I also have another new class coming up at The Paperie at the end of the month – a 7 Gypsies Artist Printer’s Tray filled with Simple Stories Year.o.graphy paper:

Lots of die cuts and stickles on this one – a great Spring piece to display!

Looking forward to the Canvas class on Sunday – only 1 or 2 spots left in that one. I also have another few class ideas up my sleeves, unfortunately, more ideas than time!

Have a great weekend and hopefully, you get a chance to be creative in whatever way you prefer!
