Exciting news…..x2!

Lots of fun news for me in the past couple of days and I can’t wait to share it with you all!

Have you seen this magazine yet? I love it – getting my print subscription every month makes for a great mail day!

For a long time, friends have been encouraging (aka badgering and harassing) me to submit some work to publications. I actually did submit one piece years ago but that was it. When I started this blog I thought that maybe I should finally heed their advice. And the first time I tried I had a piece accepted!

The exciting news? It’s finally in print and….. it’s a double pager!!!! And I will just say that seeing it in print and photographed professionally made it worth the small fortune it cost me to ship it in! πŸ™‚

So, call The Paperie, they have a bunch coming in, reserve a copy and then check out page 118!

Second, many of you will remember that last year The Paperie took me to Houston for 4 days worth of classes and workshops from the industries best – Tim Holtz, Jennifer McGuire, Shari Carroll, Mitra Friant, Cheryl Mezzetti, Candy Rosenberg, and so many more! I was like a kid in the world’s largest candy store – it was kind of ridiculous actually. πŸ™‚

This year, I am lucky enough that they have asked me to go to the sameΒ Education and Trade Show with them but in Orlando this time. And although I don’t know yet what classes I will be taking, the line-up of instructors is amazing – Ranger – Tim Holtz, Dyan Reaveley, The Crafter’s Workshop – Jamie Echt, Creative Imaginations – Cheryl Mezzetti, Basically Bare – Angela Pruitt, Lawn Fawn – Kelly Marie Alvarez, Impression Obsession – Mitra Friant, and so many more, like Hero Arts, Queen & Co, 7 Gypsies, and My Favourite Things!

You all know what this means right? Lots and lots of fabulous inspiration and amazing classes when I return! Who wants another weekend full of awesomeness like last year? πŸ™‚

Yeah, me too!

So there’s all my news, hope you’re excited for it all too!

Dylusions Ink Sprays, Flickr, ICAD, Online Card Classes, Paperie, Ranger, Tim Holtz

… oh well, that’s just how it goes sometimes, right? πŸ™‚

1. I just signed up for this. Love the idea of a cute finished sampler and for $10 it’s a steal! I believe this discounted price (regular cost is $20) expires today so jump on it if you want to join in!

2. Looking forward to this online class as well – Online Card Classes have the best instructors, videos, and samples so I know it’s going to be a good one!

3. I am still really, really loving Index Card A Day (ICAD). 21 days in and I’ve done a card everyday – no catchup needed….yet! I love just getting to play and try new things and I love the size of the canvas. If you haven’t played along you can start anytime, no pressure. And the Flickr group is full of inspiration and amazing cards. I have to say thanks to Tammy for all the work she does organizing this and keeping everyone motivated – she rocks!

P.S. You can see all my ICAD posts here and all my cards (and M’s cards) here.

4. Saw this quote on the Big Picture Classes homepage today and thought it was perfect for those friends of mine doing Project Life. Most of them are at the point of playing catchup and figuring out how to stay caught up during the summer. Here you go ladies! πŸ˜‰

“The sooner you fall behind, the more time you’ll have to catch up.” Β  – Anonymous

5. Tim Holtz and Ranger just released the Summer Seasonal Distress Inks and I’m a happy camper! They are super bright and when you blend the Salty Ocean and Picked Raspberry together, they make the best purple ever! Check out my ICAD from yesterday to see…

6. I have another 2012 Yearlong Album Class this weekend and we’ll being doing the next two months. Here’s a sneak of July!

For the 20 ladies joining me, no extra supplies are needed but bring a snack! πŸ™‚

7. I have a blog post going live on The Paperie website today; my pick are Dylusions Ink Sprays! Here’s a snippet of the finished LO you’ll see over there!

8. Having dinner and a fire with my dad tonight and there will be extra little kiddies for mine to play with – fun!

Have a great weekend!

12 on Twelve, Classes, The Paperie

This is a super quick one but I’ll be back later with a full Tuesday Techniques post!

Today is the 12th and I remembered this month – yay! So who’s with me for the 12 on Twelve? It’s easy, just take 12 pictures through the day and then share them tomorrow. I love this project – it’s quick, easy, and gives me a fun overview every month!

Also, I’m teaching at The Paperie tomorrow night. It’s a fun technique class all about Distress Markers! We’ll be making 10 tags with instructions so you can go home and play later, plus Β the techniques can all be transferred to LO’s, cards, etc.

Don’t worry if you don’t have the markers, there will be some to share and lots to buy (you’ll want to when you see how much fun they are!) Call Meghan at the shop to sign up or get a kit!

See you all later today!

Coca-Cola, Flickr Gallery, ICAD, Index Card A Day, Kiddies, Paperie

1. I’m still loving Index Card A Day, which I’m sure you’ve picked up on! You can start any time with no pressure to catch up – I think Anne and Graham would do awesome stuff with this… πŸ™‚

M has done the last couple of days with me and her cards are getting rave reviews in the Flickr Gallery!

2. I am not a cola fan. As a matter of fact, I am not a soft drink fan. Or a caffeine fan. I digress!

I am not a cola fan, but…this is pretty awesome!

3. G spent part of the day like this:

yelling, “3, 4, 6, 8! 3, 4, 6, 8!” I’m pretty sure he meant 2, 4, 6, 8 but hey, it’s close for a 3-year-old! And don’t ask about the bowl, I guess it was necessary for a counting Superman wannabe! Sorry for the very blurry pic, he thought it was a fun game to run whenever I picked up the camera!

4. I spent part of today making tags for this class and discovering a fun new technique – I can’t wait to share! If you have Distress Markers, or want to know more about them, come to The Paperie on Wednesday for 10 technique tags – it’s going to be fun!

Sneak Peek!

5. I bought 4 of these for the kiddies today – M wants the bunny but I couldn’t find it and got tired of feeling up the packages! πŸ™‚ If anyone finds one and wants to pass it along, that would be awesome!

Check later this evening for a new ICAD, including one by Miss M!

Designer Duos

Designer Duo, The Paperie

Yesterday, Cathie and I taught a fun class at The Paperie called Designer Duos – Part 1 (I hope)!

I know she and I loved it and it pushed both of us out of our comfort zones a touch since we used colours for our base papers that we never use – orange for me and green for her. I don’t have pictures on Cathie’s LO yet but I’ll post that here when I add them. For now, here’s her (unfinished) LO, done by me!

my boy

Love how she used the stencil, with 4 layers of acrylic paint! It’s super cool and dimensional, and the confetti was awesome, so big right now as an embellishment.Β She also die cut hearts from a circle of wood veneer, backed them with patterned paper and then added glossy accents – one of my favourite things –Β but the best part was the title; we wrote our words, then hand cut them, love it!

my boy – shiny glossy!

My LO turned into two LO’s! The first one I did had a smaller centre section and I felt it was too little space for a pic, so I turned it into a home decor piece:

Like a bird I sing…

…but then I felt bad for the people who wanted to be able to add pictures so at 11:30 the night before, I changed it up a little to make a bigger central portion:

You make my heart smile

…and then I gave everyone the choice of which LO they did. That means trying to teach two sets of slightly different instructions at once – ha!

I think everyone had fun – we even had three out-of-towners! I love seeing new faces at classes – hopefully we didn’t scare them away and they’ll make the trip in to play with us again! Thanks for coming ladies, it was great to meet you all!

I’ll be back tomorrow with a new Tuesday Technique series – get ready to stencil!

Art Journal, Kiddies, Things on Thursday

1. Remember my Art Journal cover?

Well I coloured it… and really didn’t like it (note to self: Coarse Moulding Paste looks cools before colour but not so cool after misting) so I gessoed over the whole thing again:

And I really like how the mist colours popped through a bit, so much so that I almost left it just like that! But I didn’t and this is what I have now:

I still left the colours really muted but I love the additional layers of stamps and stencils.

Awesome texture and dimension! Now, to open it up and get to work!

2. Excited to start ICAD tomorrow – I’ve already had a few people ask if they can join in with us – hey, the more the merrier! I can’t wait to see what you all do! It’s going to be fun having a bunch of friends in town and online doing this together! Make sure you join the Flickr group too, to see what everyone else doing.

And I’ve just seen that Tammy, the woman who started all this, has daily prompts! So if you’ve been on the fence, thinking you’re not creative or wouldn’t know what to do, now she gives you a starting point! Why are you still waffling? Go buy your index cards and join the fun!

3. Just booked tickets for M and I to go visit P, her friend I used to care for. Lately, M has been pretty wretched and everytime she cries she says she misses P and why won’t she come play anymore? Not that easy to explain to a four year old how far New Brunswick is from Newfoundland so now we’re going there to play with her! Yay!

buddies

4. I’m excited about the class Cathie and I are teaching on Sunday! It’s the first Designer Duo class and I really want it to go well because I have plans for more of these! Two different instructors with different styles, using the same product? Fun times ensue, my friends!

Here’s my sneak peek again:

And here’s a tiny snippet from Cathie:

Doesn’t hers look awesome?!? There’s still time to sign up, or get a kit with full pics and instructions. Just call Meghan at The Paperie and she’ll hook you up!

5. I have a half day off tomorrow! Lots of errands to run but I actually get to do them alone since my mom is taking my kiddies for the afternoon – so exciting for me, I may not know how to handle it! πŸ™‚

Have a great one tomorrow, enjoy the start of June and good luck with your index cards! Make sure you let me know what you have done so I can see them!

Distress Markers, Ranger, The Paperie, Year Long Album

Just some odds and ends, random stuff for today!

Saturday there was a day long crop held at The Paperie and we had a blast! I made a couple of cards, played with Distress Markers (and made 2 people buy the whole canister of 37!), and made my LO for the Designer Duo class Cathie and I are co-teaching this coming Sunday.

Here are some sneaks of the LO:

This is going to be a super fun class because we both have the same products and totally different styles. At the class everyone gets some great product (patterned papers, wood paper, letter stickers, a stencil from The Crafter’s Workshop), two completed LO’s and two different teachers – all for $35 if you’re a member! That’s a steal, my friend, trust me! πŸ™‚ And Cathie is amazingly talented, you’ll all love her LO and great techniques!

Also on Saturday I got a text from D saying he was facing the Spanish Inquisition – I’ll do another post on that later today so watch out for it! M is pretty funny, just sayin’!

Finally, we had another 2012 Yearlong Album class yesterday and we did a bonusΒ page along with the regular monthly LO:

It was a last minute addition (truly, I thought about it at 11:30 the night before and did the LO during our lunch break!). I thought it would be good to do a few of these throughout the year in case anyone wanted to highlight a particular story or event. They could also be mounted on a 12×12 background and used for other albums!

I’m posting it here for those people who missed yesterday’s class – for that crowd, be on the lookout for the .pdf with picture and instructions later this week in your email.

I’ll be back tomorrow with some more fun dry embossing techniques so be sure to come back and check that out!

Adirondack Color Wash, Distress Stain, Paperie, Ranger, Stamper's Anonymous, The Crafter's Workshop

…as promised! Here it is!

Last weekend we had a birthday party to attend and I had to teach the Yearlong Class at The Paperie that day as well. Unfortunately, I had no card made for the party before hand. Oops! Luckily, as I was teaching one of the two bonus cards we made…

… Cathie mentioned the Distress Stain splats would make good monsters. Ummm, yes, they totally would! And I had coloured googly eyes at home – awesome! Here’s how that 3 minute card turned out:

Monsters!!!

So yeah, I totally *love* it! And I think Pine Needles might be my new favourite colour – see that fantastic greeny blue guy? He makes me happy… πŸ™‚

The other card we did on Sunday was made using The Crafter’s Workshop Mini Fragmented Flower Stencil and mists.

I get a lot of people asking me how to mist properly and I always say to press on the nozzle. Seriously.

It seems to me that a lot of people are scared they’ll get too much colour or spray in the wrong place or something and they gingerly press down on the nozzle. Slowly. And that’s guaranteed to get you splats and drops, not mist. So just give your mist a good, solid press, people – go for it! And if you’re worried about too much colour, place your paper in a box, aim the mist at the back of the box, press down, and just let the mist drift down on your page. It’s much finer this way, but you’ll have more control about the intensity but since it’s mist, it will go where it wants, for the most part – you have very little control there, my friends!

All that being said, I thought we should have some misting practice in class! I used Adirondack Colour Wash in my sample – I love the colours and intensity of these. The trick with mist and stencils is to go light. The more mist, the more liquid, the more seepage under the stencil. So, go light and get a great impression! And use colours that will blend nicely together! And if you don’t think you have enough colour down, trust me, you do – do not spray again, it will be fine! πŸ™‚

Anyway, simple cards, both done in about 5 minutes each, but fun techniques that can be used for a bunch of different things! If you want to see more techniques with Distress Stains, check out my Paperie Picks post from last week.

Have a fabulous weekend everyone – I’m at the Retreat and I know I’m having a great time!

Ali Edwards, Kiddies, Week in the Life 2012

This is it. The last day for my Week in the Life 2012 project. Overall it’s been a great one to do and I’m glad I stuck with it for the full seven days.

I have to admit, I’m glad it’s over but I’m really glad I did it! It was a lot of work and time and there’s a lot more work and time left to put into it in the form of photo editing, printing, and album assembling. But I know I’ll love it once it’s done.

Although this has been far from a normal week around here, it’s been fun to document how crazy life can be just in the normal day-to-day living.

Here are some snaps from yesterday:

And that’s it. A full week done and documented – now to get it all in an album!

More than halfway through the week and it’s still going well, though I may be driving people crazy with all the photo taking! It was G’s birthday yesterday so super busy with lots going on. Lots of pics too, here are a few that cover our day:
