I’m going to try my hand at Art Journaling. Not anything personal, like a daily, write your thoughts, dreams, wishes, type of art journal, just one where I get to play!

And I’m a lucky girl because I have two friends, Cathie and Tina, who are doing this with me (though they already art journal, I’m the newbie!) If we’re super lucky, we’ll actually get together once a month too!

Here are the things I have to begin my Play Art Journal:

1. A mixed media album and some watercolour paper:

The album had the most heinous cover ever so that got gessoed and moulding pasted over immediately. It already looks better! Love the dimension, can’t wait to see what happens when I get around to adding colour:

2. The Crafter’s Workshop Stencils:

These are the Dylusions by Dyan Reavely – I’ll get more of these for sure! I love the patterns, the size, and that they come with a border too!

And these ones are mostly Julie Fei-Fan Balzer. Great designs, I have new ones of these already on the way!

3. Paint, Stain, Mist:

These are super cheap watercolour paints and I have some big plans for them! Also, aren’t they pretty! ๐Ÿ™‚

I have a bunch of Claudine Hellmuth’s Studio Paints, all the Adirondack ColorWash and Dylusions Ink Sprays, Distress Stains and Inks, and more. These are going to be fun!

4. Gesso, Moulding Pastes (my friend Marg gave me a couple to try out that are amazing!), and Multi Medium.

5. Stamps:

I think my faves are going to be the Tim Holtz and Dylusions from Stamper’s Anonymous, but I have some Ali Edwards ones that I know will make their way in too. And there are some Dylusions stamps with people that are going to have to be mine very soon!

6. I also have the basics – a water mister, paint brushes, Archival Ink (need more colours there too!).

To help me along my way, a few of us are doing ICAD through Daisy Yellow. This is where you make one Index Card A Day – it can be written on , or painted, or gessoed, or whatever you want. The point is to do one a day. I see this as a great place and media on which to experiment!

In the past, I have only done one thing that has mixed media stuff going on – at The Paperie Retreat in May, I had fun with my Week in the Life album:

back cover

Yes, I know I haven’t posted the album yet, that’s because it’s not quite done. Almost though, and I will post it then, promise!

Want to join in the fun? I’m planning to post my Art Journal stuff on Wednesdays, once I actually start and I’d love to see your stuff too! Even join me for ICAD, it’s easy and anyone can do it, even if you only want to doodle everyday!

See you all tomorrow, maybe with a colourful Art Journal cover in tow! ๐Ÿ˜‰ And if anyone has some suggestions for this new adventure or links I should check out, please let me know!

12 on Fourteen & a mini…

(note: This is a long one, with lots of pics – you might want a coffee, or wine, or…. whatever, to get you through!)

So…. You all know how much I love the 12 on Twelve photo taking adventure each month, right? I love that little collage of one ordinary day in pictures – no journaling, just snapshots of our life.

And this month I forgot all about it. Sucks. I was bummed. And then that little person in my head went, “knock, knock, knock. Hey dummy! You can take 12 pictures any old day!” Ummm, yeah. Duh!

So today is the day! Anyone want to join in? There’s still lots of time! And my camera battery is dead so I’m crossing my fingers and hoping against hope that absolutely nothing happens for half an hour! ๐Ÿ™‚

I’ll have today’s twelve ready for Wednesday.

The other thing that occurred to me was that I haven’t shared any retreat projects with you yet – sorry!

My Week in the Life album is almost done, just a couple of papers left to toss in there and then I’ll photograph and share it. Still love that project and I’m so happy I stuck with the album and finished it (almost!).

The thing is, when that album was done, I had a handful of pics not in there. Either they were cute, but didn’t really tell a story, or I had better ones to tell the story of the day, so they got cut. But, as I said, there were some cute pics – what to do, what to do?

I made G a mini album with the extras and some more of the fabulous Clever Handmade Embroidery Board!

Ali Edwards, Kiddies, Week in the Life 2012

This is it. The last day for my Week in the Life 2012 project. Overall it’s been a great one to do and I’m glad I stuck with it for the full seven days.

I have to admit, I’m glad it’s over but I’m really glad I did it! It was a lot of work and time and there’s a lot more work and time left to put into it in the form of photo editing, printing, and album assembling. But I know I’ll love it once it’s done.

Although this has been far from a normal week around here, it’s been fun to document how crazy life can be just in the normal day-to-day living.

Here are some snaps from yesterday:

And that’s it. A full week done and documented – now to get it all in an album!

Ali Edwards, Kiddies, Week in the Life 2012

Well, I’m almost finished the final day of my first foray into Week in the Life. Whew! It’s been a busy week around hereanyway, now made a bit busier by WITL! However, it’s been interesting and I can’t wait to see my finished mini when I get it done. The funniest part is that M is now refusing pics – I got a hand and a foot in the face todayย ! ๐Ÿ™‚

Here are some snaps from yesterday:

See you tomorrow for my thoughts about this project and all the pics from today – the last day!

Ali Edwards, birthday, Kiddies, Week in the Life 2012

More than halfway through the week and it’s still going well, though I may be driving people crazy with all the photo taking! It was G’s birthday yesterday so super busy with lots going on. Lots of pics too, here are a few that cover our day:

So yesterday was crazy and I’m only now getting to post Wednesday’s Week in the Life pics – enjoy!

Still loving the process, though it is getting harder to motivate myself to write everything down! I know it will be worth it when the album is all put together.

(This is my second post today, check below for my Moxie Fab World Tuesday Trigger submission!)

Back for day two of Week in the Life and I’m still loving it. So much so that I’m seriously considering Project Life next Year, though I might start that in September as that’s when M starts school – seems like a good point from which to go year to year.

Anyway…. Here are some pics from yesterday!

Enjoy!

Ali Edwards, Kiddies, Week in the Life 2012

(Note: No Tuesday Techniques this week. I’ll be concentrating on Week in the Life 2012 instead.)

I started Week in the Life 2012 yesterday. This is my first time doing this project and although I was assuming it would be time-consuming, it wasn’t as bad as I was anticipating. Lots of writing and photo taking, though I didn’t take as many pics as I thought I would. I’m still trying to find the right pictures to take – not used to taking shots of my breakfast!

This week is also turning out to be less ordinary than I thought – an unexpected run to the hospital last night since G was complaining of his ear hurting and I wanted to catch any infection early, but luckily, just a bit of redness, nothing serious!

Here’s some of my pics from yesterday from morning to night:

Loving this so far – we’ll see how I feel by the end of the week!

Ali Edwards, card classes, cards, Hero Arts, Paperie, Studio Calico, Week in the Life 2012

Ok, today is the day – Week in the Life starts.

I have my album ready, the daily sheets printed, a folder set up on my computer, camera batteries charged and memory cards cleared.

Now, I just have to keep up with what’s happening every second then remember to take a picture of it all and write it all down! Yikes!

I’ve tried to do the December Daily before and, although I was really good at the picture thing, I was terrible at writing down the details so the albums (2 of them!) never got finished. I’m counting on you guys to keep me going this time and to hold me accountable to finishing the project!

I’m looking forward to it because we have a big week ahead – eye recheck for M and her kinderstart day for the month, G’s birthday and birthday picture session, L’s birthday party, a night out for D and I, G starting regular gymnastics – he’s too old for the parent and tot session now – plus all the other regular stuff that happens around here. Lots of photo taking opportunities mixed in with pics of my breakfast!

On another note, I’m teaching a Hero Arts card class tomorrow night at The Paperie. We’re doing 3 cards with three different techniques and using the Hero Arts/Studio Calico Calico Borders stamp set, which everyone gets to take home! Call The Paperie if you’re interested in going, there’s always room for one more and we’ll be playing with alcohol inks:

and watercolour paper:

It should be fun!

I’m not guaranteeing a Tuesday Techniques post tomorrow since I have to kit for this class and organize today’s pictures but I’m hoping to get it done. You’ll have to stop back and see how productive I will be tonight – think I can fit it all in?
