We’re at the end of it! Sorry it took a few days to get this one up but there’s a lot of pictures to edit and add in these posts! If you want see the whole mini album you can check out the Foundation, Days 1-9, Days 10-18, or you can see everything in my Flickr album.

day 19Gabe made me a snowman with a stripey hat that he cut out and it needed to be included today. I simply slipped it into a 6×8 page protector.

day 19aBecause I date stamp just about everything that comes into this house he added that information to the back himself. 🙂

day 19bThe two big things that happened today were both Santa related – letters came in the mail for the kids and they each got a video message from the man himself! I added some text in Photoshop Elements and then put the number and “hello Santa” sticker on over the page protector.

day 20

My final YLA2014 class for the year. The cork frame is from the Freckled Fawn kit and the rest came from the DD kit. Another half sheet of printed transparency to split the two days.

day 21The kids made faux stained glass Nativity scenes in Sunday School and also had another visit from Santa.

day 21 transparencyI used another see through piece and lined up matching size stickers front and back. The transparency is Stampin’ Up! And the Freckled Fawn kit came through again with the epoxy stickers.

day 22One of the best nights this Christmas – The Once concert! Another local band who is making it big, they’re currently touring around the world with Passenger, we have loved them for a long time but this is the first time we’ve made it to their annual Christmas Show. It didn’t disappoint!

day 22aIf you look closely you’ll notice that some members have too many arms and hands, oops! We were in the very front centre and too close for my camera so Darrell took some pano shots with his phone. They came out great except for the moving musicians! More DD and FF kit embellishments over the page protector to add a little bling. And yes, it’s in my album sideways – that type of thing doesn’t bother me at all.

day 23Last day of work and so we had some fun making tiny little gingerbread houses! I’ve learned that life is much easier and happier when everyone has their own house to decorate! We also started putting decorations on the tree, one of the things the kids love to do  themselves. I added glitter and velvet ribbon and trims to the date card, then finished it with another FF cork piece. The wood veneer number is also FF and heat embossed silver then layered over two heart transparencies and added to an old Studio Calico tag.

day 24One of our favourite days, Christmas Eve. We always spend it at my Dad’s house for Salt Fish and Brewis with Drawn Butter and sides of Raisin Bread and Boiled Raisin Cake – true Newfoundland tradition. Following our own family tradition the kiddies got new jammies. Molly and Gabe also started a new one for them – sleeping together. Molly has bunkbeds so they often have sleepovers together but they got it in their heads that they needed to be in the same bed on this special night. It brought back lots of memories because my brother and I did the same thing for years. Even after we got older we still camped out in my room for the one night a year. It must be genetic!

I added two of the transparent pieces – the tree and word – to the date card and embellished with DD puffy stickers.

day 24 flipThe date card flips to see another pic of the kids eating, wearing their Christmas cracker hats and I embellished with more of those transparent words and shapes.

day 25The final transparent words – “december” and “twentyfive” – made it into the pocket along with plastic stars and confetti. I added a heart and the “twinkle” transparency to that gorgeous gold foil 25 paper. Only one picture for Christmas Day but I love it – they were so excited!

photo a dayI finished off the book with all the pics from my Photo a Day prompts. I don’t have them all printed yet but this is how they look. I always like adding that project in this mini.

That’s all, folks! A lot of pictures, I know, but I hope you got a little inspiration or enjoyment.

Cheers!

Ali Edwards, December Daily, Freckled Fawn, Stampin' Up

Ready for some more eye candy?

day 10

Molly had her school Christmas concert on the 10th and I just love this picture of her and two of her friends – the word art is another digital oldie from Ali Edwards and I added some star sequins from my stash.

day 10a

A picture of Molly singing at the concert and another with her beloved teacher (she was filling this fall for the regular teacher who was on maternity leave and she will be sorely missed!). I also added a Stampin’ Up! transparency and some Freckled Fawn stars to one pocket but forgot to take a close up – sorry!

day 11The night of the 11th was our last Keeping Track of Life class before Christmas and a couple of us decided to take advantage of the fact we were out anyway and go grab some food – love doing that after classes! The awesome script paper is from the DD kit while the wood veneer and red metallic alphas are from the SU! kit.

day 12This is one of my favourite spreads in the album for two reasons: it’s got my 12 on Twelve pics, which I love each month, and it’s got that amazing chipboard page from the DD kit which I heat embossed using gold, silver, and gold glitter powders. It’s super awesome. I added a transparency which I stapled on and then I added bits and pieces to the holes.

day 12 holesThat’s the front and back. Isn’t it great?!? I really love how it turned out!

day 13I used another 1/2 sheet of printed transparency as a divider between the chipboard and the photos for the 13th. The kids had breakfast with Santa at church and then their Christmas pageant rehearsal.

day 14Christmas Pageant day! M&G were two of the three “wise people” plus Gabe lit the Advent Candle and Molly did a scripture reading. Then my Dad took us all out for lunch – big day all around! The “JOY” letters were simply stapled to a page protector that I cut up and slipped into the pocket.

day 15One the fun nights each year is The Paperie Members party.  There’s always a group shot plus Heather and I always manage to have crazy pictures together – I think we’re the wacky ones. 🙂

day 16

A couple of months ago our new fitness centre and pool opened – a *huge* upgrade from the place we were in and the kids are loving their lessons in this big bright place. Luckily, most of the instructors made the move over too so we still have the same awesome swim coaches for the kids.

day 16a

Today also had a fun little visit to Gabe’s classroom to see all the Christmas art projects he’s been working on and to hear the songs he and his classmates have learned. All those four- and five-year-olds singing and dancing? The best.

day 17Day 17 is my other favourite spread. I convinced the kids (Molly required bribery) to let me get some pictures and I love how they turned out. I’ve already shared Molly’s and Gabe’s here on the blog but they needed to make it into my album too. I’m pretty sure you’ll also see them on a LO or two in the future! I kept things super simple with a large gold initial in one pocket and a puffy heart sticker in the centre of each page.

day 17aMolly had her last climbing night of the year and managed a 5.8 overhang, with a little help. I have no idea what any of that means since Darrell is the one who takes her wall climbing but they were both very happy with that news when they got home!

day 18

One of my favourite things to do each Christmas is to go see a local group, The Ennis Sisters, do their Christmas show. They travel right across the island part of the province, singing in churches, and they donate part of the proceeds of each show back to the communities they perform in. They’re amazing and I always feel like Christmas truly starts once I’ve gone to the concert. I added the playbill and ticket in one of the pockets.

Woah! Another long one but only one more post to go – tomorrow I’ll finish it off!

Cheers!

Ali Edwards, December Daily, Freckled Fawn, Stampin' Up

Ok people, grab your favourite cup of something and settle in! Even though I’m breaking this up into several posts there are still lots of pics. I’m give a quick rundown but if you have any questions just ask in the comments and I can answer in more detail. Enjoy!

The first spread in my book has pieces from the Freckled Fawn Christmas Embellishment kit and the Ali Edwards December Daily kit. Those two, along with a mini Project Life Christmas Kit from Stampin’ Up! made up my supplies for this year.

opening spread

I love the full-page papers from AE and thought this was the perfect way to start the season, with the addition of a little bling, of course!

day 1Another full-page paper with some embellishment additions and the sheet Molly had to fill out for school listing her Santa wishes.

day 1aAnd December 1st is not complete with Advent Calendars – Lego ones here, as always! I used an old Ali Edwards overlay in Photoshop for the picture.

day 2On the third I started decorating and Gabe brought home a colouring page from school. He loves to look through the mini albums and see his things so he asked almost every day to have his school work added in.

day 2 open

I wanted to show more of the decorations but not have them a focal point so I used a Simple Stories flip pocket to add in a couple more pictures.

day 3

Whenever I have two days on one spread I try to separate them with an acetate divider. I totally stole this idea from Ali Edwards – I loved how the transparency overlays looked when cut in half.

day 3aI added Gabe’s end-of-session report from Gymnastics and I still have to include the reindeer the kids are making in the picture. The washi tape is from the Freckled Fawn kit and I gold embossed the circle of stars and the “3”. Almost all the wood veneer numbers are gold, with a few silver thrown in for some change!

day 4A bunch of odds and ends for Day 4 – Stampin’ Up! wood veneer embossed with gold and silver, a glitter tree stickers, lots of diagonal stamping and a small pocket from last year’s DD kit to hold a lunchbox note I gave Molly. It cam back with a heart and a note on it for me. 🙂

day 5

Day 5 was all about the Santa picture. I think I’ve figured out the timing to get at Santa without the huge lineup – I’ve manged to beat it the last two years! This is my favourite Santa picture ever – I’m sure the photographer thought I was nuts when I said I didn’t want the kids looking at us but it turned out perfectly!

day 6This year, my sisters- and mother-in-law decided to have a girls only Christmas shopping trip. I decided we were doing a Santa picture and yes, I totally bullied them all into it. Isn’t that a great keepsake though? All the girls on my husband’s side of the family – that doesn’t happen very often!

We also went to the Bowring Park Annual Tree Lighting Ceremony and naturally Molly and Poppy would only pose together if they were crazy pictures. Someday I will have a nice one of those two together!

day 6 star

The see-through element here is made up of the bokeh star, a piece of tissue confetti, and a number from Freckled Fawn. I added more confetti and a puffy heart sticker to the back. Those puffy stickers in the DD kit? Maybe my favourite embellishment this year!

day 7-8

Another double day spread for 7 and 8. I taught a kid’s class at The Paperie on Sunday and we put up the tree (minus decorations) on Monday. I had originally stamped that card with numbers 1-8 but ended up attaching the big gold 8 instead and just stamping some sentiments.

day 9 I had a chance for some fun with Lori on the ninth and it took us forever to get a decent picture of the two of us – I’m not sure we ever succeeded! I pulled an Ali Edwards and journaled some notes to M&G with different size pens on the large paper page – I love how it looks! To highlight the “9” I coloured it with my red Wink Of Stella pen and doodled with Sakura’s Clear Stardust Gelly Roller.

Whew! Are you tired of pictures yet? I  hope not! Tomorrow I’ll have some more of the album, including my two favourite spreads of the year!

Cheers!

December Daily 2014 | Foundation

Ali Edwards, Christmas album, December Daily, Freckled Fawn, Mini Album

I have tons and tons of pics of my foundation pages but I promise you, they’re not all going to be posted here – you’re welcome! 🙂

I’ll give you an overview and post everything on my Flickr page so those of you who are interested can check it all out. Of course, let me know if you have any questions! It’s all pretty simple – I’d never make it through the whole month otherwise – but there are some fun elements that I’ll share here.

Once again this year I got the Ali Edwards kit (it was sold through Studio Calico last year) and I made the splurge again because 2013 was the only time I’ve ever finished it! I’ve tried four other times and it was a disaster! The kit idea definitely works for me. I also added the Freckled Fawn Very Merry embellishment kit this year (I must have been feeling rich or something!) and I was altogether too excited when I discovered they matched perfectly! Seriously people, I squealed like a little girl and clapped my hands, sad….

foundation pages - cover

I love my album! I went with the off white instead of red (two options were offered this year) and I’m so glad I did! I misted the fabric cover with Tarnished Brass Distress Spray Stain and flicked Heidi Swapp Gold ColorShine over that. The tree, star gems, and washi tape are Freckled Fawn while the rubber banners are from the DD kit. I did love Ali’s idea of using the huge gold letters are part of her cover but I moved that element to the inside along with the DD printed masking tape, FF washi and cork sticker:

foundation pages - inside cover

I also added a fun present to the spine. I’ll be honest, when I saw these two presents in my FF kit I really didn’t think i would use them, just not my thing normally. However, when I gold embossed the white one I loved it!

foundation pages - spine

For Day 1 I used a whole sheet of the DD patterned paper, added some Wink of Stella shimmer to the bulbs, and the wood veneer 1 plus a heart puffy sticker to the out side of the page protector. I gold sparkle embossed all the numbers but I have changed some to silver already. I still think Christmas albums should be all gold and silver – love overloading on the bling!

foundation pages - 1

For Day 4 I used some of the striped patterned paper and stamped all over it with the DD stamps:

foundation pages - 4

Day 5 I used a trick of Ali’s from last year – I stapled a gold 5 to a scrap od page protector I cut up and slid it in the pocket:

foundation pages - 5 spreadYou can see I stole an idea from her this year as well and cut the included transparencies in half – I love that ombre circle one! The star and heart combo you see is the back of day 6. Again, it’s a gold number and it’s all attached to a page protector scrap.

For Day 10 I simply added some FF washi, the DD velvet rickrack ribbon and a number on a gold diecut over some patterned paper. Simple but I love how it looks. The papers in this year’s kit are gorgeous so I don’t really want to cover them up very much!

foundation pages - 10Day 12 is by far my favourite! I thought Ali’s idea of using the chipboard piece with the twelve holes was genius but I used one of my funnest (that’s a real word, I swear!) techniques to cover it – sprinkles of gold, silver, glitter, and ultra thick embossing powders. Then I backed the page with a thin sheet of acetate so I could stick elements on and still get a peek of the next pages:

foundation pages - 12Day 24 was an old tag I had with some stamping and embossing. You can see I used the big gold foil “25” page for Christmas Day because it’s awesome:

foundation pages - 24 spreadI also filled a pocket with paper confetti and two of the plastic words for the 25th:

foundation pages - 25 confettiAnd that’s it for now! I have lots more in my December Daily album if you want to check out Flickr.

So how about all of you? Anyone doing a December Daily or something similar? Link me up so I can see!

Cheers!

NOTE: Sorry for the delay in this post – could not get WordPress to upload a single photo yesterday. Sigh.

It occurred to me this weekend that although I try to do A Day in the Life each month, I never post the pics here. And since it’s a time-consuming, photo heavy taking day, I thought I should share some of what I capture.

Project Life – Weeks 3 & 4

Ali Edwards, October Afternoon, Project Life

Another update with weeks 3 & 4 – and for the record, I’m still keeping up so big pat on the back for me! 🙂

(As always, click on any pictures to open a larger copy in another window)

Week 3 was a pretty laid back week with nothing much going on – thank goodness after the last couple of weeks! One insert with work that M brought home:

I saved this one because they were supposed to be practicing “M’s” and she wrote her name in the lines – made me laugh!

The full spread:

You can see that I got into the Ali Edwards digital overlays this week. Now I’m addicted so you’ll be seeing those a lot! What I love is that it simplifies my process even more – when I edit my pictures I can drop the overlay on at the same time, print the pic and be done, no more embellies needed!

Here’s the left page:

Also loving the foldable journal cards in the PL kit for slightly longer stories, like the Booty one – my kiddos love to “shake their booty!”

And the right:

More pictures from Miss M – she loves drawing grass, sky, and people lately – a self timer pic, backyard races, a visit to bring M to school and G being cute as always. Another week in the bag.

Week 4 was fun – we took family pics in the park, saw family for dinner, and had the cable guys working on the poles in our backyard – the boys talked about it for days!

No inserts this week, just a straight forward LO:

The left page:

And the right:

I’m loving how the title cards seem to work for whatever week and pictures I have and that I can easily alter the colour slightly with washi tape. Washi tape, October Afternoon stickers and coloured labels are the best PL items ever.

I’ll be back next week with a couple more and here tomorrow with 5 on Friday, since Things on Thursday was pre-empted by Project Life!

Sketchbook!

Ali Edwards, American Crafts, Amy Tangerine, Designer Digitals, The Paperie

I spent last night at The Paperie taking Cathie’s Starburst and Pinwheel Class with some scrappy friends. We had a blast and the LO’s were awesome! Equally awesome? The stuff I came home with!

How do you all feel about classes? Are you happy to simply do them and come home with your projects or do you like to get extra stuff too?

Me? I’m all about the add-ons! Love getting a little something to carry away, especially if I learn something new and get a product so I can recreate the projects in my own way. Last night, we all got a pack of Thickers (I already had the green so I exchanged them for the black) and a 6×6 Amy Tangerine Sketchbook paper pad – pretty sweet, my friends!

The starburst LO we completed was this one:

oh dear… (design credit: Cathie Reed)

Of course, I had to make things difficult and use different papers so that slowed me down a little, but I love the end result. Cathie also showed us how to make a stencil from our starburst and how to tone down the bright papers we were using.

I had to come home to finish this one since the picture I brought just didn’t work. I’m glad to get this photo on a LO though, because it was a pretty funny day – M & P chose to colour each other, but with non-washable red marker. They had streaks on their faces for days! 🙂

The second LO featured a pie chart and again, Cathie suggested a couple of ways of doing it and some other project ideas too.

for you, mama! (design credit: Cathie Reed)

Again, I made things hard on myself and used different papers which meant time sorting out what to put where but at least I got these photos scrapped, since they probably wouldn’t have been otherwise!

M & G love to pick me flowers and on this day, shortly after the dandelions came out in bloom, they insisted on keeping them in a “vase” of water. As you can tell, I’m also in love with the Ali Edwards photo overlays from Designer Digitals. I have to force myself not to drop them onto every picture – a battle I lost for this LO!

Hope you liked them – go over and tell Cathie what you think – maybe we can get her to teach some more classes! 🙂

Family Pictures and a little Project Life

24 Monday Sep 2012

Ali Edwards, Designer Digitals, Family, family portrait, Kiddies, kiddies, Studio Calico, Wood Veneer

The weather, though not at all fall-like, was gorgeous on Saturday so I dragged the family off to the park for a picnic and photos – I needed an undated one for the first page of Project Life! 🙂

Now, you know how Miss M feels about pictures, it’s a horrible, terrible thing I torture her with! So she was told that we need the picture and then we could go feed the ducks and play at the playground – the quicker the pictures, they longer the playing.

It didn’t work.

But I got some awesome out-takes (and one semi reasonable family picture!).

This is limp noodle M and G wondering why he has to behave if she doesn’t.

This might be my favourite one – M couldn’t look more pathetic, G is having the time of his life “drumming,” and D is already pretty PO’d at the whole situation! This one makes me laugh! 🙂

Now we’re getting to the point where G is getting fed up and M is *still* not cooperating.

This is another fave – see that sweet face on my boy? And M is glaring at the camera over her glasses – hilarious!

Now we’re getting somewhere – she’s trying really hard not to smile here! It’s only a matter of time, my friends, before I win!

Yes! One that will work and no one looks grumpy! I win! (insert big fist pump here)

On a side note – don’t you love that Ali Edwards/Designer Digitals overlay? I’m going to have to reprint the picture just like this for my PL album, I have it in there now just plain and it looks so boring!

And notice how there is no “S” on my picture? It’s the only letter I’m missing from my Studio Calico wood veneer letters so I’m trying to decide what to do there…. If anyone has an extra “S” it would save me some debating power! 🙂

Back tomorrow with a washi minibook tutorial – if I can get the paper I need!

Index Card A Day – #44 & #45

28 Saturday Jul 2012

Ali Edwards, Creative Imaginations, ICAD, ICAD2, Koh-i-noor, Ranger, Technique Tuesday, Twinkling H2O's

Two more index cards for you today and they’re very different from each other!

#44 – one day at a time

I made this one while I was away with very limited supplies. I used a second generation type of inking to get the lighter swirl and text images. Then I used regular inking to stamp the sentiment and butterflies. I coloured them with my Koh-i-noor pencils and smudged with my fingers to blend and give them the halo. Simple, basic….

#45 – celebrating…

This card is special – it was our wedding anniversary and so I made a card to celebrate that – even though I was on vacation away from D!

I used my Twinkling H2O’s, of course, to make the shimmery stripes and paint the wood veneer people, then stamped the sentiment in Jet Black Archival Ink.

The fun part of this is that the sentiment is actually pieces of three different stamps all jumbled together. I simply cut them apart and stamped the bits as I wanted. Have I mentioned before how much I love Ali Edwards and Technique Tuesday?

Oh, right, only a few thousand times! 🙂

I’m pretty sure I’ve also mentioned my love for Twinkling H2O’s…..

See you all next week for more ICAD’s and a vacation recap in pictures!

Ali Edwards, ICAD, ICAD2, Kiddies, Stampin' Up, Technique Tuesday, The Crafter's Workshop

Two cards again today – you are lucky people!

I used one of the prompts today, sort of! There was one that said to use coloured pencils on black gesso or paint. I’ve been meaning to break out my new colourful embossing powders form Stampin’ Up and use them on a dark background, and I’ve been meaning to try out a technique with stencils that Ali Edwards uses sometimes. This was day!

I painted my index card with black watercolour paints – it would have been acrylic but I don’t own black acrylic! Then I paid down my 12×12 Punchinella stencil and pressed my Versamark pad over it. Once I removed the stencil, I sprinkled three different coloured embossing powders over it, and finished off the few open spots with silver. I love how it turned out, though in the future, I would use a lot less and be more careful of the silver since it went everywhere! The card has a lot more shine than I anticipated!

My only problem now was how to add my sentiment… More embossing, I guess! And then, since I was on an embossing roll, I embossed my wood veneer bird, I didn’t want it to feel left out, after all!

See all that shine? In certain lights all you can see is silver!

M decided to use the same technique as she watched the whole process with very big eyes! She chose the stars from Punchinella and wanted all silver, I guess she likes shimmer as much as her Mama does! I held the stencil while she stamped the Versamark, then she sprinkled on the silver powder. After that there was a litle fight about who would heat up the powder.

I won. 🙂 But she watched very closely.

So this is the front:

And then she saw a brown napkin we had used yesterday to blot the water out of her paints and she wanted to add that too. Once it was on and dry, she didn’t want to add anything else over that either! So here’s the back:

I love it, though it did take me an hour or more to convince her to let me photograph it. She decided that she didn’t like people looking at her things, hahaha! As you can tell, she caved eventually – I think hearing from Nana that she loves to look at M’s cards on the computer did it!

See you tomorrow!

S.
