1. I’m doing 12 on Twelve again today. Loved it last month and forgot all about it until I saw this post this morning to remind me! Who’s joining in? It’s not too late, there’s lots of day left!
2. Android finally got the Instagram app and I couldn’t be happier! And I’m also enjoying Ink361 to view my pics and pull them into Photoshop. I’ve heard Extragram is good too though, so I’ll check that out and see what I think. And if you want to follow my photostream my instagram name is saracees!
3. October Afternoon has this sketch challenge up today and though I’m not much of a sketch person, I love this one! Think I’ll have to try to make time to do a LO!
4. I have a another Paperie Picks blog post going live tomorrow and I’ll talk about this cute project:
I tweeted a sneak of it the other day but I’ll go into detail about the product in the blog post – awesome stuff!
5. I’m seriously considering another online class. I know, I’m addicted! But the current one – Sketchbook 4 – is awesome and is going to be a fantastic source of ideas once it’s done. The new one, Get Messy, is right up my alley these days – paint, ink, and mist, and a finished mini album in the end! Love the sound of it!
6. I have a fun class coming up on Sunday at The Paperie – the Rainbow Tag Layout. We’ll be having fun with Ranger and October Afternoon products, plus using LilyBee and Amy Tangerine alphas. There are a few spots left so call and sign up – it’s a cheery one, great for those new spring pics you’re taking!
The LO we’ll do in class is not exactly the same as this one – we’re using slightly different alphas and this original LO met a nasty end with a cup of hot chocolate – not a good scene! 🙂
Have a great day – hopefully it’s not as rainy in your neck of the woods as it is here!

I love me some alcohol inks! You really can’t mess them up because no matter what colours you pick to blend together, they all work – no muddiness or anything, they just play nice together! And if you don’t like what you get then add more or, on certain surfaces, wipe it all off and start over! I mean really, what’s not to like about that?
There are a bunch of techniques I love – using them on canvas, making plaid, removing parts with Archival Ink – but one of my favourite looks is marbled. This looks the coolest on fragments (you can also get charms), but works equally well on any transparent surface, like acetate or page protectors. For me, it’s just an embellishment as is, I don’t do anything more than make them and adhere them to my project, but you could also stamp sentiments and images over them to use as focal points.
Here’s what you need:
Alcohol Ink, Fragments, Ink blending tool with felt, heat tool (optional).
First, just add a few colours to your felt. Simply put the tip of the ink applicator in the felt and give it a 2-3 second squeeze. If you don’t put the tip in the felt, well, let’s just say you could have alcohol ink permanently stuck all over the place. Of course, I don’t know this by experience, oh no, not me, I would never do something like that. I’ve just heard it could happen. *ahem*
Now, pounce your felt all over your fragment, twisting the ink blending tool as you go to mix and blend the colours. Don’t worry about what this layer looks like, we’ll be adding lots to it yet!
Because I’m impatient, I use a heat tool to speed up the drying process though it really isn’t necessary as they dry pretty quickly.
Next, add a little more intense colour to the felt, if you wish. I thought the first layer was pretty light and needed some depth so I added a darker colour. Then you pounce and dry again. I don’t add any more ink after this step since you want the felt to dry a little – as it dries and you add more layers, it gets “stickier” and builds the effect we’re going for.
Just keep pouncing and drying, pouncing and drying, until you get dark lines running through the colours on the fragment.
See? Marbled alcohol inks!
I like the fragments because of the thickness and translucency of the finished piece, but it does look cool on a page protector too, especially if you want to use said protector as a memorabilia pocket in an album.
Now, just add the fragment to your project and consider it done! Personally, I think they’re interesting and pretty enough to stand on their own, so I leave them alone.
This would be great hanging on a thank you gift, or birthday present…
You can see that I ended up using different colours for my finished tag – now I just have to find a spot to put the teal one I made!
As always, leave me a comment with a link to any projects you try using this technique – I’d love to see what you come up with!

Yesterday I mentioned that I was going to a class at The Paperie given by Rae Lynn. She does the most amazing Clean and Simple LO’s – not my forte at all – so whenever she gives a class, I try to be there. It’s always good to learn about something that’s not your strong point!
I went really prepared last night too – had my pics printed and everything! The meant I came home with two completed LO’s, no more work needed, yay!
Here’s the first one, pics of my boy:
Love that photograph tag – we cut it to pieces and used it all over the place!
And the LO of my baby (yes, she’s the oldest but she promised that she would *always* be my baby!):
Love the B&W pic on this one – it’s one of the first pictures I took when I got D’s old camera and it’s one of my all times faves of her. I did change this up a bit – in the class all those pinky elements were bare wood which looked amazing, just not quite right for a little girl! We received a Jenni Bowlin for Ranger paint dabber (and ink pad) in the class so I used that to paint all the wood. Love how it came out.
Thanks, Rae Lynn, for another fabulous class! When’s the next one? 😉
Finally, my October Afternoon challenge LO which was to use a Dr. Seuss quote. This is the one I did at The Paperie crop Friday night:
It’s fine, I added the stitching when I came home, but it’s not what I wanted. I left it for a couple of days, and this is what I ended up doing to it:
More dimension, some bling and glitter:
Some Distress Stain, and a rolled flower to break up the buttons:
A misted canvas heart:
Now it’s a bit more interesting!
This week they showed a technique involving string and mist – going to have to give that one a try too!
Happy hump day, we’re getting closer to Friday!

I thought I would do something a little simpler the next few weeks for Tuesday Techniques – Finishing Touches. Sometimes it’s that last little thing that holds us up but is the perfect thing to finish off a project when we do figure it out. Over the next few Tuesdays, I’ll show you a couple of quick, easy things that work for me!
Today, one of my Mom’s favourites when she sees it – Scored and/or Perforated Lines.
You need:
A scoring board, a bone folder, a perforating tool, and cardstock. If you don’t have these items, you can use the ridge in your paper trimmer, your finger nail, and a thumbtack – I just like collecting supplies!
Put your cardstock in the upper left corner, making sure everything is straight, then press the bone folder firmly on the cardstock, letting it run down in one of the grooves; I went 1/2″ in for this step…
…and 1/4″ in for the perforating.
Then I did some masking, inking to pick up the perforations, and I was finished!
And a closeup of the details:
I like how the scoring and perforating, with a little inking, makes it looks like a stitched luggage tag – perfect for this one!
To give you some more ideas of how this technique would finish off a card, here are a Sympathy and Birthday card I made using the same Papertrey Ink set and the ScorBug:
And finally, a card with scored lines and another Papertrey set:
I scored over the drawn lines to give them a little something more. It’s hard to see here, but adds a lot IRL – just a little oomph!
As always, I’d love to see what you do with this, or any technique I’ve shared. Leave me a link in the comments where I can view your project and I’ll take a look!
I’ll be back tomorrow with my 12 on 12 pictures!

I did it! I got a quick tutorial done!
This is a simple but pretty and effective one – and it can be used for boys, girls, whatever! Just change up the stamp and the Distress Ink colours and you’re good to go!
You will need:
Distress Inks, Perfect Pearls Mist (or water), Watercolour paper, a stamp, VersaMark, white embossing powder, a heat tool, a nonstick Craft Sheet, and a paintbrush.
This looks really cool with an enclosed, yet open image, like a flower, but I wanted to do a background. I ended up doing a focal image as well, using black ink and clear embossing powder but that was an afterthought!
First, trace a tag onto watercolour paper and cut it out. I also used two small circle punches to cut the hole reinforcer but it’s not necessary – I’m just a tad bit anal retentive about certain things. 🙂
Heavy weight cardstock can substituted here but watercolour paper is the best surface to use since we will be putting a lot of water on it. Also, when it dries, it looks nicer with a great texture.
Stamp your image with VersaMark and heat emboss with white embossing powder.
Next, press each colour of Distress Ink onto your craft mat and spray each once with Perfect Pearls Mist or water. You need to use Distress Inks for this since they are reactive with water and don’t lose their colour or intensity when mixed with water. Also, mist your tag to make it damp and allow to colour to move more easily.
Next, use your paintbrush to pick up colour and paint your image. Don’t worry about blending – the Distress Inks and water take care of that all on their own while resisting the embossed areas! If you have stamped a closed in image, you’ll notice the colours pool inside the embossed areas and make good puddles.
Keep going until you’re happy with it then give it another good misting. Let it dry and you’re done!
Look at the shine the Perfect Pearls adds!
Now, just finish off your project or add your image to a card or layout. Easy, quick, and simple!
Ali Edwards Stamps are the best – just sayin’!
I’ve used this technique for little brown, blue and green monsters on a canvas in G’s room and they look awesome!
I’ll be back tomorrow with a look at the canvas for the class on Sunday – this technique was one that didn’t make it so I wanted to show it off today.
Here’s a peek of the Sunday project:
Enjoy your day!

1. We have a bunch of tired kiddies here this morning. P & C, the two I take care of, are having a sleepover for “3 sleeps” while their parents are in New Brunswick house hunting. That boils down to mean M & G are losing their buddies mid-March – we’re sad. 😦 Last night was the first “sleep” night here and we’re all dragging a little today!
2. I’m looking forward to Crop Night at The Paperie tomorrow – it’s fun to be with friends and there’s always a midnight snack afterwards! Call and sign up by this afternoon if you want in on the fun too – come on, you know you want to! 🙂
3. I started on the March LO for the 2012 Yearlong Album last night using the amazing Year-o-graphy line…
4. And that leads me into… I love having my Scrap Cave (which it will now be officially know as) almost cleaned and organized! I’m actually getting work done and not messing up the kitchen! And that means I don’t have to pack everything up and drag it back to the Cave all the time! Yay! When I get the bags of donations out of there and the final bits tidied away, I’ll post an updated picture. Oh, and it really is a cave as I share it with the storage room and the freezer, but it has a door. A real door! That keeps little children out! Can you tell how exciting that is to me?!?!
5. I made this quick card the other day – super simple but I love how it turned out. More clear embossed resist (told you it was a good and effective one!) but without the trapped stamping underneath. Of all the types of the cards there are, I really hate making sympathy ones at the time I need them. Those, I like to have a stockpile of and I’m all out. This one was a prototype that I liked so I think I’ll churn out a few this evening, or tomorrow at the crop night.
I used Papertrey Ink stamps, Hero Arts embossing powder and heat gun, Ranger Distress Inks, and a Scor-Bug.
6. As I was typing this up just now, my computer rebooted for “necessary updates.” Really computer? In the middle of my blog post before I saved it? Hmmmm…
Hope you all have an interesting thing-filled day – tell me some of your good things!

This may be a day late but I hope you’ll all forgive me for once!
For this technique, you do need a very specific product, Distress Crackle Paint in Clear Rock Candy. You’re also going to need a non-stick craft sheet (to contain the mess), Distress Stains, and Grungeboard or Grungepaper.
First, you need to die cut a shape of your choice from the Grungeboard or Grungepaper. I chose the paper as the die I used was a very thin one and unable to cut through the heavier Grungeboard. Once you have your shape, give it a decent coat of the crackle paint; the thinner the coat of paint, the finer the crackles. If you want big cracks, do a thick coat but keep in mind it will take a looooonnnnggg time to dry (this technique is very hard on the impatient!)
Technically, once the paint starts to cracks, you can speed up the process with your heat tool but I normally end up burning the paper so I just let it sit. From experience, I now do this step as the last thing before I go to bed for the night and then it’s ready in the morning – no patience needed!
See the cracks? Very neat on it’s own but it will get even better soon!
Now, rub your Distress Stains over the crackled shape. Dry in between layers with your heat tool and keep going until you like the look. Keep in mind that the colours lighten as they dry and you can always add more, but not less!
When you’re happy with the colours, you’re done!
Look at the texture the crackle brings – awesome!
Now, add your very cool and unique embellishment to your project and call it done!
I used lots of dimension on this one…
As a side note, you do want to use a heavy duty surface for this. Grungeboard and Grungepaper are really durable and can take a beating which I why I use them for this technique. The Crackle Paint is wet and then you’re adding wet Distress Stain so I’m not sure if regular cardstock would hold up under all of that abuse!
Now, I know you might not all have Distress Crackle Paint in your supplies, but that’s ok – I know for a fact The Paperie has some on order! Go call them and reserve yours now, then you can go play too!
I have only ever done this with Clear Rock Candy so, just for you guys, I tried it with Picket Fence (white) so see how it would turn out.
I do find that the colours in the Crackle Paints dry faster than the Rock Candy. They’re also matte, whereas the Rock Candy is shiny, like Glossy Accents. And that reminds me, there is a Crackle Glossy Accents, which I’ve never used. That would definitely be worth a try, if you own it.
This is kind of neat too, just a pastel, matte version. Personally, I like the shine and texture of the Rock Candy, but this would be good for other uses. Be interesting to see some others colours of paint tried too (hint, hint!).
Once you’ve tried it, leave me a link to your project – I’d love to see what you do!

I normally don’t consider myself a great cardmaker – I have trouble with the smaller canvas and working space, I guess – but it’s a great size for trying new things. And I like how this one turned out!
We have a birthday party tomorrow so a card was necessary. This morning, I bit the bullet and went for it, taking pics of the progress for you along the way. This is going to be really photo heavy, sorry!
Used lots of stuff here – Papertrey Ink and Unity Stamps, Fiskars Stamp Press (go right now and buy one if you don’t have it!) and Cloud Punch, Hero Arts Long Notecards, My Minds Eye Twine, Papertrey Ink Button Twine, Ranger Archival Ink, Distress Stain, Paint Dabber, and Perfect Pearls Mist, and Clearsnap Smooch.
First, I rubbed my Distress Stains over my Non Stick Craft Sheet and sprayed lightly with Heirloom Gold Perfect Pearls Mist.
Then I dragged a piece of ivory cardstock through the colour.
Now I’ve done this before and always gotten a bit of shimmer with the mist, which is what I was going for this time. But I got this instead…
See all that gold? Awesome! I can only figure it was because I used Stain this time instead of Ink and the consistency was different. Whatever, it looks fab, if I do say so myself!
Anyway, moving along… 🙂
I cut the card stock down to size to fit the front of the notecard, then stamped some balloon strings…
…and a sentiment from Papertey Ink.
I stamped that on a bit of leftover cardstock for some more interest – and it looks cool (pat on the back)!
I then punched a couple of small holes in the balloon strings so I could tie some twine around them.
I threaded the buttons with Rustic Button Twine, then decided to stamp a “3” and use that as a balloon instead.
And while I had the Unity stamps and the smooch out, I did the inside of the card too!
Finally, I punched some clouds and dabbed them with Pearl Paint Dabber…
…and adhered everything to the card!
The best thing? I still have this left over to make another one!
Are you all pictured out yet? 🙂
We have the birthday party this weekend, and a fun cupcake/Valentine making event at the Paperie, and I’m teaching the Groovy Glassine Class Sunday – we’re full (for the class and the weekend)! Hope you all have a great one!

1. Said good-bye to a friend yesterday. St. Thomas Church (it’s a big one) was standing room only. I think that says it all. You’re already missed, Dan.
2. So I pinned these the other day on Pinterest, wishing I could have them in my life again and, lo and behold, as I was at the dollar store the other night, guess what I found? Score! I them have in my hands again, though not the sparkly barreled ones I remember having as a kid. Oh well, I guess these will do! 🙂
3. We have royalty in the house today!
P, M’s bestie, brought all her princess gear to share today. M insisted that red sparkly shoes were needed to complete the look (along with her PJ bottoms!) The patch, as you can see, is still on and (knock wood) going better than expected.
4. This cat is my favourite today…
The other one (who is not as innocent as she looks) has escaped into the snow 3 times and forced me to go get her, in the cold and the snow, 3 times. Not her biggest fan right now.
5. My baby, who is also not as innocent as he looks (even my dad said he was evil!), loves his cars right now. And not napping. Sigh.
Look at the tongue poking out – love that! ❤
6. Going to the Paperie to kit up the Groovy Glassine class tonight. I think there might be a spot or two still available, if you’re interested. This class is jam packed with technique, focusing on Kraft Glassine but also using acetate, Sticky Back Canvas, Cork paper, dry embossing, Perfect Pearls, Distress Stains, alcohol inks, AccuCut Dies, and more! And at the end, you’ll have a seasonal mini album to fill. If you’re going to be around St. John’s, NL on February 12, it’s worth going to – I promise!
7. EDIT: One more thing – I finally redid the header; no more generic hallway thing!
Have a great afternoon!
