Distress Ink, Perfect Pearls Mist, Ranger, Stampendous Embossing Enamel

Just before I headed off to Vancouver to see my brother I went to a four-day scrapbooking retreat at The Wilds. The Paperie hosts these twice a year and they are a must-do! I admit, I planned my trip around it!

I was actually super productive this time around, something that usually doesn’t happen for me and to be honest, I don’t really care. For me, it’s more about the break and having an awesome girls weekend while doing something we all love! To get lots done this time was a huge bonus!

Two of my favourite LO’s came about due to a challenge I took part in. I used a couple of Halloween pics so I’m going to share these now before we get too far past that time and into full-blown Christmas!

the bestI bought some foam Thicker words at the Retreat and they were perfect for these LO’s:

the best titleTo make both LO’s, I picked three different colours of Distress Ink and blended them to get an ombre look, starting with the lightest and working my way up. I used the small round ink blending tool from Ranger, I like it better than the large one, and went over the colours a lot to get a seamless and smooth colour blend. I find that if you start light and keep adding colour, you are less likely to get lines from both the tool and between colours. If you look carefully, it seems that I have more than three colours on the page but that’s because of the overlap while blending.

To get the shimmery, bleached out dots I simply sprayed Biscotti Perfect Pearls Mist in my hand, flicked it onto the background and after a few seconds, rolled my paper towels over the top to pick up the excess mist.

my faveI used the exact same technique for Gabe’s picture, with cool ย colours instead of warm.

my fave starsFor the stars on both pages I used either diecut cardstock stars or wood veneer. I covered them with VersaMark and then sprinkled on Aged Silver Embossing Enamel from Stampendous. It’s the best antique silvery colour and is my fave lately, along with the Aged Gold.

Distress Ink techniques are by far my favourite – these inks can seriously do almost anything, I think they have magic powers! Let me know if you try this out and have another fun technique to share with me, I’m always looking for new ones!

Cheers!

ICAD, ICAD2, Idea-ology Chitchat Stickers, Perfect Pearls Mist, Pomegranate Stencil, Ranger, Studio Calico, The Crafter's Workshop, Wood Veneer Stars

I’m a bit behind on posting my index cards so there will be a few posts today – hope you enjoy!

I’ve had an idea for this card in my head for a while but was waiting on my wood veneer stars to arrive before I did it. It’s pretty simple but I love the shades of blue and purple.

My oldest and best friend and I took our kiddies to the beach for this past wet and grey weekend and I made this card while I was there so I had limited supplies with me but I’m happy with how it all came together.

I painted the background with my cheapy watercolour paints, which I love, and used lots of water and shades to really blend it together. I didn’t want any lines, just a gradual fade into the darker colours of blue and purple.

Once it dried I misted Heirloom Gold Perfect Pearls Mist over my mini Pomegranate stencil. As an aside, that stencil is the best! It’s so versatile and seems to work with and be whatever you want – love it!

Anyway…. I then painted the stars with Metallic Gold Paint Dabber, then sprayed those and the Chitchat word stickers with Heirloom Gold Perfect Pearls Mist. I had to stamp the word “star” but there is some extra sticky paper left on the Chitchat word sheets so I just used that. I adhered it all to the card and inked the edges to finish it off.

I love the sparkle of the mist and the little bit of dimension from the stars:

What do you think of the stencil? Looks like sky/comet/galaxy/space stuff to me! Do I need the 12×12 version, what do you all think?

Back soon with another one – I had to try a fun material my friend Cathie has been using! ๐Ÿ˜‰

ICAD, ICAD2, Index card, Kiddies, Perfect Pearls Mist, Ranger, Studio Calico

I’m going to show you M’s index card first today. It’s beautiful, colourful striped lines, so pretty.

Then she broke out the scissors:

Hmmmm.

“Why did you cut it apart?” I asked.

“Because I wanted to.”

To which I replied, “But for me to take a picture and post it, you need a full card.”

“Why?” says she, “It’s my card, I can do what I want.”

Oh, so true! So that was her card for June 8. I kept all the pieces and put them in our little box where we stash our cards.

Then, my friend Lori stopped by with some new Studio Calico masks – you know I had to try them out!

I mixed some Chipped Sapphire Distress Stain with Light Modeling Paste and smeared it over one of the masks. While it was drying I painted the word Friday, left over from some class prep.

I wanted a little more colour so I painted around some of the circles of modeling paste. Blerg.

Sprayed it a lot to dilute the orange circles, then I heavily sprayed the whole thing with Mandarin Perfect Pearls Mist. Better. But it still needed something….

M’s strips! I layered one under the word and called it done!

Not my most exciting card ever, but it’s a day done and it’s got pieces of me and M. ๐Ÿ™‚ Plus, it’s super shimmery IRL!

And I do like the texture, it almost looks and feels like velvet… sweet!

Archival Ink, Distress Stain, ICAD, ICAD2, Index card, Lawn Fawn, Perfect Pearls Mist, Ranger, Stamper's Anonymous, The Crafter's Workshop, Tim Holtz

So, those of you who have been reading my blog know that lately I’ve been loving myย my mom’s sewing machine. Earlier this week she came and took it away – to make curtains! Really, Mom, curtains? My paper crafting is soooooo much more important! ๐Ÿ˜‰

Anyway, the day she came to make me cry borrow take back her sewing machine, I ran downstairs and did a quick stitch around an index card so I’d have one to play with – yesterday was the day!

I misted the card with water, rubbed Distress Stains over it, then misted with water again to make them blend even more. It’s a small miracle the card didn’t simply disintegrate under that much abuse. And I’m wasn’t finished with it yet!

I took mercy and dried the card after all that, then laid down a stencil and misted with Bronze Perfect Pearls Mist. Heat set again. I stamped the butterflies and words in Cobalt Archival Ink and the swirls (an old, old Fancy Pants set) in Coffee Archival Ink and called it done.

I love how the misting turned out – in some lights you see a small shimmer, in other lights you really see the bronze pattern. And Archival Ink is becoming a new love – I have an order placed for a bunch of new colours – yay!

I also like how the stitching turned out to be a textural component rather than a frame, as I initially intended – love when things turn out different but better than planned!

M spent most of yesterday with Nana (the sewing machine thief) baking brownies, playing with her new toys, and watching TV so an index card was pretty low on her list of priorities, we’ll see what today brings!

Ali Edwards, Archival Ink, Dylusions Ink Spray, Perfect Pearls Mist, Ranger, The Crafter's Workshop

Two more for you today – one from me and one from M!

For mine, I wanted to play some more with my Dylusions Ink Sprays and the ghosting technique. I misted 4 different colours on my cards then heat set after letting them blend for a minute.

I laid down two different stencils and sprayed water through one and Perfect Pearls Mist through the other. The image is really faint, I don’t think I sprayed enough water, but IRL you can see it and it’s pretty cool!

Then I stamped some Dylusions stamps and an Ali Edwards (of course!) sentiment in Archival Ink so they would be permanent.

I misted my non stick craft mat with Kiwi Perfect Pearls Mist and used a small brush to paint some leaves and tentacles. That’s how I got the bleached but shimmery effect.

And then I called it done! ๐Ÿ™‚

M carefully painted a border with watercolour paints around her card then filled it in with increasingly smaller borders until the whole card was painted. She kept her brush super wet so everything blended.

Then, I was called upon to heat set it because, “Mama, it has to be dry before I can add another layer!” I think she pays more attention to me talking about crafting under my breath than anything else!

Once it was dry, she soaked it with Interference Red Perfect Pearls Mist which I had to heat set again. After a close look over, she called it done!

See you all tomorrow – I love looking at everyone else’s cards at Flickr!

Adirondack Color Wash, Christy Tomlinson, ICAD, ICAD2, Perfect Pearls Mist, Pink Paislee, Ranger, Stamper's Anonymous, Tim Holtz

This one turned out a little more interesting than I expected due toย the Perfect Pearls Mist and how it reacted to the texture gel I used. The outcome was a pretty cool effect!

I first laid down a Christy Tomlinson SheArt stencil and spread Liquitex Coarse Texture Gel over it. Normally I’m too impatient to wait for it to dry and heat set it, which makes some neat effects, but this time I was busy during the day and so it had time to dry on its own.

Once dry, I did one quick spray with Adirondack Color Wash, misted with water to get it all to spread and blend, and then dried the card. I stamped a sentiment and *almost* called it boring, but done.

But I had to add some shimmer, just had to add something to give it a little more oomph. So I sprayed Blue Patina Perfect Pearls Mist, assuming I’d get a bit of blue shimmer over the whole thing and make it a little more fun.

Boy, was I wrong! For some reason, the texture gel resisted the mist, causing it all to pool in the spaces between and making them super blue and shimmery – awesome! I love the Blue Patina colour so was very happy to really see it stand out and it looks amazing with the purple mist!

Isn’t that the coolest? All in all, this turned out way better than first thought – I love unexpected outcomes!

Stop back tomorrow, I have two cards to share – one is a very special one! ๐Ÿ™‚

Card Day – A Step by Step Photo Show!

Adirondack, Craft, Distress Stain, Fiskars, Hero Arts, Ink, Non Stick Craft Sheet, Papertrey Ink, Perfect Pearls Mist, Ranger, Smooch, Stamp Press, Stamps, Unity Stamp Co.

I normally don’t consider myself a great cardmaker – I have trouble with the smaller canvas and working space, I guess – but it’s a great size for trying new things. And I like how this one turned out!

We have a birthday party tomorrow so a card was necessary. This morning, I bit the bullet and went for it, taking pics of the progress for you along the way. This is going to be really photo heavy, sorry!

Supplies

Used lots of stuff here – Papertrey Ink and Unity Stamps, Fiskars Stamp Press (go right now and buy one if you don’t have it!) and Cloud Punch, Hero Arts Long Notecards, My Minds Eye Twine, Papertrey Ink Button Twine, Ranger Archival Ink, Distress Stain, Paint Dabber, and Perfect Pearls Mist, and Clearsnapย Smooch.

First, I rubbed my Distress Stains over my Non Stick Craft Sheetย and sprayed lightly with Heirloom Gold Perfect Pearls Mist.

Stain and Mist

Then I dragged a piece of ivory cardstock through the colour.

Swiped through the goodness!

Now I’ve done this before and always gotten a bit of shimmer with the mist, which is what I was going for this time. But I got this instead…

Loads of Heirloom Gold!

See all that gold? Awesome! I can only figure it was because I used Stain this time instead of Ink and the consistency was different. Whatever, it looks fab, if I do say so myself!

Anyway, moving along… ๐Ÿ™‚

I cut the card stock down to size to fit the front of the notecard, then stamped some balloon strings…

Balloon Strings

…and a sentiment from Papertey Ink.

sentiment strip

I stamped that on a bit of leftover cardstock for some more interest – and it looks cool (pat on the back)!

I then punched a couple of small holes in the balloon strings so I could tie some twine around them.

Lime Twist bow

I threaded the buttons with Rustic Button Twine, then decided to stamp a “3” and use that as a balloon instead.

Smooched "3"

And while I had the Unity stamps and the smooch out, I did the inside of the card too!

inside...

Finally, I punched some clouds and dabbed them with Pearl Paint Dabber…

Pearl coated clouds

…and adhered everything to the card!

All done!

The best thing? I still have this left over to make another one!

extra stuff!

Are you all pictured out yet? ๐Ÿ™‚

We have the birthday party this weekend, and a fun cupcake/Valentine making event at the Paperie, and I’m teaching the Groovy Glassine Class Sunday – we’re full (for the class and the weekend)! Hope you all have a great one!
