A while back I blogged about a new class series I was teaching called Distress Renewed. This is going to be bimonthly and a few weeks ago we had our second class. This one was all about Dylusions Ink Spray – one of my most fave products!

hangin out

Our first LO was all about using Dylusions to make a watercolour background with resist, complete with misted ghosting and bleach out clouds:

The second layout was showing the blendability and fun properties of the sprays:

Love how water ghosting works on these!

Finally, we made card fronts using a bunch of techniques:

And that’s it – fun times getting messy and inky! Next class will be all about Distress Paints and I can’t wait to play!

Avery Elle, Birthday Cards, cards, The Paperie Card Kit

Sorry for the delay but I’m finally back with more of the Paperie’s March Card Kit and today it’s all about the cards!

I don’t consider myself a card maker and generally I don’t make many of them but the Avery Elle stamp set that was included in the kit made me want to make some.

First up, a fun one:

happy birthday outside

It’s a little deceptive though because the funnest surprise is on the inside:

happy birthday inside

It’s a great way to use up scraps of patterned paper that you can’t bring yourself to throw out!

I also made a little gift box:

card box

And filled it with easy cards:

I used a lot of repetitive stamping for these:

card 3

And added fabulous Studio Calico gold star rub-ons:

card 5

Finally, my favourite go-to card for kids birthdays – they always love it and it’s so easy to change up for a boy or girl or you can make a bunch a unisex ones:

boyo monsters

To see the rest of the cards in the gift box, or to check out the layouts I made, you can go view my Paperie set at Flickr or head into the Paperie itself to see them all in person!

Back tomorrow with the final project from the kit – my personal fave!

Paperie Card Kit | November 2013: Part 2

Card Kit, cards, Home Decor, Layouts, The Paperie

Yesterday I shared some of my work from the Paperie Card Kit and today you get to see the rest!

I did one more LO, as usual:

we wanted a cat

I had fun punching and adding circles:

we wanted a cat - circles

and playing with embellishments:

we wanted a cat - embellies

For once I actually made cards with the Card Kit – go figure! I had run out of cardstock so I cut up a piece of white woodgrain from my stash for the card bases.

smile

They’re super simple but they make use of the fun Lawn Fawn birthday stamp set that’s included. Perfect for kiddies birthdays and we always have lots of those to go to!

cake and enamel dots

I also made one card that will probably go to my dad, who owns his own sailboat:

ahoy

Finally, I made a wreath. This actually caused me some stress because I had planned to make a wreath thinking that the November kit would of course be full of fall-like colours. Ummm, not so much. The pale pinks, blues, and yellows threw for a bit but that wreath was stuck in my head so onward I went:

wreath

Not bad, hey? I used some of the 6×6 patterned papers, as well as one of the kraft and one of the white envelopes included. A bit of distress ink and I think it turned out rather fall-like after all!

wreath - acorn

The wreath base was wrapped with burlap ribbon, then I pinned the leaves in place and the acorns were handcut and glued. Easy but I love how it turned out!

I’ll be back tomorrow with some Halloween pics – I been meaning to post them but time has gotten away from me!

Canvas, Christmas card, marriage equality, Mixed media, Studio Calico, Things on Thursday

Before you start reading this list, I want to say that there is no rhyme nor reason to the order of things. I write this post over the course of the week as things pop up and so sometimes the important things (see #3) end up in the middle rather than at the top. Yes, that goes against everything I ever learned in English and Writing classes but that’s just the way it is around here – my blog, my rules! 🙂 The reason I mention this now is so you all know that the list is not in order of importance or relevance, it’s just the way the week went! So enjoy and read them all – don’t skip the middle parts!

1. I signed up for this class as soon as I heard about it. I missed the first one and kicked myself over it so I’m really looking forward to this new one!

pop off the page

2. I’ve been given a couple of blog awards in the past week or so. I never really know what to do with those (they almost make me uncomfortable, is that weird?) but it’s exciting that people like me – they really like me! More on those next week.

3. I came across this in the WordPress Freshly Pressed blog post. Awesome post. Go read it. Now. I’ll wait! 🙂

marriage equality

(Musak playing, Jeopardy theme song playing…)

Did you read it yet? Good! Moving along…

4. Last November I had a card published in Create: Christmas Cards. But I haven’t submitted anything since. And because all the calls right now are for September/October that means it’s been almost a year since I’ve submitted anything. Time to get back on that horse, I think!

Merry Christmas

5. One reason I haven’t been trying to get published is that I’m doing very few scrapbook layouts or cards, apart from the ones for Simple Scrapper, and have been concentrating on canvases and mixed media. Here’s a peek of a canvas I did for a blog hop next week and for a class I’m teaching at The Paperie retreat at the end of the month. I like it so much that I might actually make something else for the blog hop and submit this – we’ll have to see.

KP Weekend!

Distress Ink, distress paint, Distress Stain, Dyan Reaveley, Dylusions Ink Spray, Gesso, Kelly Purkey, Perfect Pearls, Ranger, Stencils, The Crafter's Workshop, Tim Holtz, tissue wrap

This past weekend, The Paperie hosted Kelly Purkey and we all had an awesome time!

sara, kelly, and krista

Krista and I were lucky enough to share the teaching floor with her and do classes so there were lots of different styles and projects for participants to make. Kelly taught a LO class, plus a mini album from scratch. Krista did a completed Dear Lizzy Daybook mini and I did a tag technique workshop. Since I  don’t have any pictures on LO’s or in albums yet, I’ll show you the tags I taught and be back another time with the other goodies!

First of all we played with Dylusions Ink Spray and gesso, plus the Tim Holtz Easter Blueprints stamps (CMS144):

bunny tag

I love the texture the gesso provides!

Then we used Distress Ink and Perfect Pearls powder to make a great background that we layered with the Vintage Things Blueprints set (CMS152):

Hello, Perfect Pearls and silver gel pen:

We did a soft background using Distress Stains, the Sewing Room Sizzix Bigz die, and some tissue wrap:

dress tag

Love the dimension the tissue wrap adds:

Finally, we all played with the brand new Distress Paints! We marbleized, stenciled, and painted:

SAMSUNG

And added some amazing mirrored sheet letters to finish it off! Unfortunately, I only have this one cell phone picture of this tag but I’ll update with better pics tomorrow when I get my tag back.

It was a bit hairy at the end of class, trying to get them all done but all in all, I think we pulled it off and everyone liked their tags – whew! Plus, they all got to take home a new Distress Paint and a 6×6 Crafter’s Workshop stencil of their choice, pretty sweet!

The weekend as a whole, starting Friday night with a wine & cheese, leading into classes all day Saturday and then a crop, ending with another full class day on Sunday, was fabulous! I think everyone was pretty tired by the time it finished but it was worth every moment. Plus, we got to get a jumping picture with Kelly at Signal Hill in front of Cabot Tower – the icing on top of a very good weekend, even if we did freeze our faces off to get it!

It’s a bit late but I’m back with sneak peeks of three of the cards for next weekend’s Technique Tag Card Class during the Kelly Purkey weekend at The Paperie!

The first one will be made using Distress Inks and Perfect Pearls:

technique tag card class sneak peek - inks and pearls

Then we’ll do a pretty one with Distress Stains and Inka Gold:

technique tag card class sneak peek - stains

And the third is made with gesso, mist, and alcohol ink!

technique tag card class sneak peek - easter

We are actually making four cards but the last one uses a top secret and very fun product so no sneaks for that one – it will be an awesome surprise to the class goers!

If you haven’t signed up for this awesome weekend – and why haven’t you? – I think there’s still a couple of spots available! Kelly is teaching a LO class and a minialbum class, Krista will be doing an Amy Tangerine Daybook, and I’ll be doing a bunch of technique tags that we’ll make into cards! Plus, there’s a meet and greet with Kelly on Friday night and a crop night on Saturday! It’s going a be full and very amazing weekend!

Birthday Card on the fly!

cards, Papertrey Ink, Perfect Pearls, Ranger

My kiddies had a party to go to this past Sunday and at the last minute I realized that I didn’t have a card made – of course!

So I went looking through my stash and found…. nothing. Zip. Zilch. I was plum cleaned out. Of course.

But, I found a couple of great card fronts I had made months, maybe years, ago and forgotten about. And there was a perfect one for a party. I stuck it to a premade base and called it good.

fill this day card

For the life of me I can’t quite remember exactly how I made it but I believe it was Distress Ink pressed on a craft sheet, misted with Perfect Pearls (back before they made it in a mist form and we had to make our own – hard times!) and then the paper was swiped through the puddles.

I think I was testing out the different colours of the powder and seeing how everything reacted. The background is super shimmery blue, which I couldn’t get a decent picture of, and the flowers are all punched circles from scrap pieces that have a variation of Distress colours and mist. All the stamps are from a Papertrey Ink set.

I really like the end result so I’m thinking I may have to try it all out again and see what happens – at least I’ll have some cards ready for the next time I need them!

The Everlasting Card Organizer

Card Organizer, cards, Carta Bella, Class

I have a new class this Saturday based on another of the Bazzill classes I took while I was in Orlando this past fall.

I’ve changed up the paper – we’ll be using the Carta Bella Traditions line – and the size is very slightly different, but the concept is the same. Plus, we’ll be making some cards to put inside and get you off on the right foot!

coverThe whole point of this organizer is to make sure you remember all those birthdays, anniversaries, special occasions that recur yearly and require cards.

januaryEvery page has a calendar where can write in the events on the date they occurred, like a wedding, for example.

feb-marchAlso, every page is folded so you have a pocket to store the cards you need for that month.

thankyouAnd we’ll make 4 super simple, easy to replicate cards so you can go home with your stash already started and have some ideas to make more!

Last I heard, there was only one spot left in the class so if you’re interested, give the Paperie a call to see if you can still get in – can’t wait to see some of you on Saturday, you know we’re going to have fun!

Weekend of Fun | Ranger Metallic Stain Cards

Christmas Cards, Classes, Ranger, The Paperie, Weekend of Fun

The only class I’m teaching this weekend that is exactly as I did it in Orlando are the Ranger Cards using Metallic Distress Stains – they’re so great, why would I mess with them?

The main part of the cards are, of course, tags, which are then layered on a card base. There’s the Fired Brick one:

Ranger - reindeer

The fabulous poinsettia die is the star here, and the shimmer from both the Metallic Stain and the Rock Candy Stickles is awesome!

Ranger - reindeer closeup

And then the Broken China one:

Ranger - snowman

This has the Snowman from the Christmas Blueprints set as the hero, along with the mirror sheets:

Ranger - snowman closeup

Since I loved that stamp set so much, I made a few other tags just as samples!

I went with a darker blue, Chipped Sapphire, for the Tin Soldier:

Ranger - soldier

And with a brighter Barn Door red for the Tree:

Ranger - tree

But my favourite has to be the Snowflake, layered over Picked Raspberry Pink with a combo of Tarnished Brass and Brushed Pewter Metallic Stains:

Ranger - snowflake

I hope the Paperie has lots of these Stains in stock because I think everyone in class is going to want all three colours. And since you get to go home with one, you only have to buy two more! 🙂

See you tomorrow with the last class sneak – the day long Dylusions Tag album!

If you follow me on Twitter or Instagram, you’ll have seen some sneak peeks of this weekend’s Weekend Of Fun at the Paperie! I’ll be teaching 4 classes inspired by the trip I took to Orlando this fall and it’s going to be a great couple of days! There’s still time to sign up so call the Paperie to reserve your spot ASAP!

Today I’m showing you the 4 cards we’ll be making in the Impression Obsession class.

I love Impression Obsession stamps – their Cover a Card backgrounds are fabulous – but in this class we’re focusing on their dies, the wreath die to be exact.

This is a super intricate die and it cuts the most beautiful twiggy wreath perfect for Fall:

Inside the sentiment continues to say, “…For You.”

I love the bit of sparkle that Rock Candy Distress Stickles add!

I’ll be back tomorrow with my first 12 on Twelve pics of the year, and I’ll be showing you more class samples throughout the week. Going to be a fun and crafty one around here!
