A present for our beautiful Maya

One last Christmas present to share and a confession – this one hasn’t actually been sent yet. Oops. It’s going in the mail this week though, I promise! #worstauntandsisterever

Anyway…….

I did another name for another gorgeous baby, my awesome niece Maya:

Maya frame

I found a frame big enough for this one but since you can see my fabulous crazy hair in the glare of the glass I thought I’d show it to you out of the frame too:

Maya unframedI like to keep these pretty simple so the letters themselves actually stand out. I do normally back them with patterned paper but the colours of these looked so good on the black fabric background that I left it as is.

I added enamel dots and hearts, plus wood and enamel buttons from Freckled Fawn to the “M”:

Maya frame m

And to the “Y”:

Maya frame y

The “A”‘s have cork stars layered with gems and cork arrows:

Maya frame a

At the last second I also added little vellum phrases from Freckled Fawn to each letter as well – I love how they look, all vintage-y and translucent.

That’s it! Super simple and pretty for my pretty girl! Hope her parents like it when all their presents finally arrive! ๐Ÿ™‚

Cheers!

Seasonal Canvas | A Year of Mixed Media

A while ago I posted that I taught my last Seasonal Canvas class – the fall one – and so now I have a full set of four. I have to say, this might be one of my favourite classes ever! The finished product of each canvas is beautiful but to have all four together is just awesome.

year of canvas

Don’t they look great? I did a little kitchen rearranging to fit them in on a wall that doesn’t get direct sunlight. I used Luminarte Silks for the paint on each of these and unfortunately, they’re not light stable. ๐Ÿ˜ฆ

That being said, it was ok in this case because they fit perfectly here just above my scrapbooking island in the corner of my kitchen.

If you want closeups all the canvases are in my Flickr gallery and your can also check out the blog posts for Winter, Spring,ย Summer, and Fall.

Cheers!

What a Hoopla!

Classes, Home Decor, The Paperie, Tim Holtz fabric

First, I’m sorry for the long absence – I was away visiting my brother and his wife and their brand new baby!!! When I got home it struck me that I had 7 classes, three sets of design team projects, and a guest blog post due by the end of June – eek! Happily, I enjoy it but I had to hunker down and get a chunk of that done before I could post here.

But now I’m back and today it’s all about the Home Decor Hoopla at The Paperie this past weekend. It was their 10th anniversary and so we had a Hoopla class, some great sales, cake, and lots of fun! We’ve done a Holiday Hoopla the past couple of years at Christmas where you get to make gifts, one from each of the Design Team Members. This year we expanded to a Home Decor idea and it was by far the best one yet! Five items, completed, for $50 – you can’t beat that, my friends!

Cathie had a quick and super simple item but it really looks amazing – coasters with the new Dina Wakley stamps!

you are enough

I think these would be awesome as a wall or office hanging for your favourite girl – or woman! And I’m looking around for the right stamps to make them for Gabe too – perfect sentiments for boys as well as girls!

Lori helped us make this fabulous burlap table runner:

I love the texture, it was fun and easy, and you can personalize it by adding any extras you want. I, of course, added dots:

Mary Ann, our resident Silhouette guru, came up with this etched vase:

Unfortunately, she couldn’t make it but Tina stood in and did a great job teaching us how to get it all perfect! And sorry for the dirty glass – I guess I should have cleaned that before the picture!

Rae Lynn tweaked a Pinterest idea and we made a framed family tree:

Isn’t it gorgeous? What an awesome idea and so easy for gifts!

I added grass and popped up my clouds for some extra dimension and love how it turned out:

And my project was this wreath using the Tim Holtz Eclectic Elements fabric:

I love wreaths and have several that I change put over the year so it was fun for me to teach a project that I love to use in my own home.

The fabric was perfect for the roses on the wreath – great patterns and pinked edges:

rosesWe all had an excellent day with tons of fun. If you’re around these parts in December you should definitely look into taking the Holiday Hoopla!

I’ll be back soon with the LO’s from my last Distress Renewed Class – Dylusions Ink Sprays. Lots of inky fun in that one!

Home Decor, Mixed media, October Afternoon

my sweet Julianne!

j

A few weeks ago I made a letter “R” for a young friend as part of my Scrapbook Steals design work and I promised I would make one for her sister as well. I finally got around to it!

I used all October Afternoon product – I hoard their stuff – and had fun adding flags and banners:

j - banner

To make the name stand out, I traced the alphas with my White Sharpie Paint Pen and added a few dots as well:

j - name

I finished it all with doodling, of course!

Now, I just have to remember to deliver them…. ๐Ÿ™‚

Paperie Card Kit | November 2013: Part 2

Card Kit, cards, Home Decor, Layouts, The Paperie

Yesterday I shared some of my work from the Paperie Card Kit and today you get to see the rest!

I did one more LO, as usual:

we wanted a cat

I had fun punching and adding circles:

we wanted a cat - circles

and playing with embellishments:

we wanted a cat - embellies

For once I actually made cards with the Card Kit – go figure! I had run out of cardstock so I cut up a piece of white woodgrain from my stash for the card bases.

smile

They’re super simple but they make use of the fun Lawn Fawn birthday stamp set that’s included. Perfect for kiddies birthdays and we always have lots of those to go to!

cake and enamel dots

I also made one card that will probably go to my dad, who owns his own sailboat:

ahoy

Finally, I made a wreath. This actually caused me some stress because I had planned to make a wreath thinking that the November kit would of course be full of fall-like colours. Ummm, not so much. The pale pinks, blues, and yellows threw for a bit but that wreath was stuck in my head so onward I went:

wreath

Not bad, hey? I used some of the 6×6 patterned papers, as well as one of the kraft and one of the white envelopes included. A bit of distress ink and I think it turned out rather fall-like after all!

wreath - acorn

The wreath base was wrapped with burlap ribbon, then I pinned the leaves in place and the acorns were handcut and glued. Easy but I love how it turned out!

I’ll be back tomorrow with some Halloween pics – I been meaning to post them but time has gotten away from me!
