#50 – Make a beautiful mess

I recently got some black gesso and decided to use it on an index card. It didn’t turn out as planned! So I took some old paper towel and adhered it with gel medium. Because of the black base, it turned out pretty dark which is why I added Golden Light Molding Paste over the Peony stencil to cover the majority of the card – it lightened it up quite a bit, thank goodness!

I heat set the molding paste, since I like the look when it puffs up, then added the sentiment from some Cosmo Cricket word stickers.

After a bad start, I really like how it turned out! And the detail from the stencil is awesome!

Here’s a bonus for you today – M did one last index card!

Of course, she had to use the “sparkly pots” aka my Twinkling H2O’s and she covered the whole card in gold. She then painted little wood veneer people and when the card was dry, stuck them on. She’s pretty minimalist, so she said that was it!

I love the colours she used!

#51 – Be true…

This is one of my recent faves – I love the bright colours!

I first added molding paste over another new stencil, Zinnia, and then misted with my Dylusions Ink Sprays. I added a couple of stamps but it was still just not quite right. Β Then I saw the mask left over from card #48 and since it was covered in a different colour mist, I added it to the mix.

Love how it turned out! I little bit of colouring and some more Cosmo Cricket word stickers and it was done!

That’s all I have ready to show you, but there will be a few more in the next little while – I just need to get the time to complete them! πŸ™‚

Kiddies, kiddies, Lego Friends, Strawberry Shortcake

…I ate myself silly!

First, we went bathroom shopping which is a long story I won’t get into now, but at the building supply store we got lollipops to start our day!

Then, it was the 194th Royal St. John’s Regatta, the oldest sporting event in North America held in the oldest city in North America!

And all of that means vendors and food – lots of food! I had the best Indian, from the Hindu Temple, and helped myself to blue and pink cotton candy, which I pilfered from my children!

And I also stole some of M’s snowcone!

After all that, some icy cold lemonade, and some bouncy castle/sliding fun, we came home to get ready for a double birthday party!

Next week my baby girl turns 5 (seriously people, how did that happen? I know many of you remember the huge belly I had only yesterday!) and on the same day, D has his birthday too – I think making him a dad on his birthday releases me from any further birthday gifts, wouldn’t you agree? πŸ™‚

So, knowing the weather would be good – the Regatta only goes ahead if the weather is fine – we planned a party.

And all of that means more food!

Hamburgers and hotdogs, potato salad from ym mother-in-law, fresh and smoked salmon pate from my mom, flourless chocolate cake for M’s cake…

See that 5? It’s a sparkler and she loved it!

…and pavlova with whipped cream and strawberries for D’s cake.

M loved her Strawberry Shortcake cake, which I started at 10pm the night before! Big Thanks to Tricia for making the strawberries, letters, and green trim, while I raced through the rest – fighting fondant that wanted to crack and trying to build a fence, plus adding tons of tiny little flowers!

We had presents – she got a Legos, her favourite thing, and lots of tiny Strawberry Shortcake pieces, among other great gifts.

As an aside, I love that Lego now has a Friends line for girls! M loves Lego anyway, but these little dolls are awesome! And see those two girls? The blond one is my god-daughter and the middle one is her sister, one of my flower girls. Sigh. She’s much taller now than she was then…

Anyway, to round out my day I watched the Olympics… while I ate an ice cream sandwich! πŸ™‚

Kiddies, kiddies, New Brunswick, vacation

M and I are having a blast here in New Brunswick!

The weather has been fabulous and our awesome friends and hosts have a pool (lucky us!) that M is just loving!

We’ve been mostly lazing about, visiting the playground, and we went to Cherry Brook Zoo this morning.

Apart from that, the kiddies are having the best time together – it’s like they were never apart!

M and I are on vacation this week while D stays home to work and G spends some fun time with Poppy. Unless I get a quick second to post, I’ll be on a break this week!

I’m planning, fingers crossed, to keep up with ICAD so I’ll post those pics and details next week along with vacation photos!

See you later!

Canada Day, Family, Kiddies, kiddies, Terra Nova National Park

I’ve been meaning to post these pics for while. Well, since Canada Day!

We spent the weekend in Central NL at my in-laws cabin and spent most of Canada Day itself at Terra Nova National Park. The kids had a blast and the weather, unlike most other Canada Days, was hot and sunny!

Here was our weekend in pictures:

Sorry for the lack of pics of M, she is not the picture poser like her brother is!

Kiddies, kiddies, M and her funny sayings...

Yesterday after breakfast:

Me: M, come over and let me clean you up.

M: Just a minute, Mama, I’m busy.

Me: What are you doing?

M: Stuffing my hair in my ear.

Yup, that’s my child. I’m so proud…. πŸ™‚

This card was a very late at night one, so M didn’t play along, though she did make an awesome heart for her daddy covered in, of course, Twinkling H2O’s!

And naturally, she needed to write on the back:

For my card, I broke open my new Golden Heavy Body Acrylics and smeared them across my card, blending the colours so they weren’t so bright. Once that dried, I mixed the green into my light molding paste and spread it across the Pomegranate stencil, covering most of the card. The small spaces I had left, I covered with Coarse Pumice Gel which mixed with some of the green paint. Finally, I traced the letters from a Dylusions stencil and added touches to the card with my Stardust Pen.

So fun and shimmery, and I love that stencil! The dimension from the bits of Coarse Pumice Gel is awesome!

See you again tomorrow for another Tuesday Technique!

Ali Edwards, ICAD, ICAD2, Kiddies, Stampin' Up, Technique Tuesday, The Crafter's Workshop

Two cards again today – you are lucky people!

I used one of the prompts today, sort of! There was one that said to use coloured pencils on black gesso or paint. I’ve been meaning to break out my new colourful embossing powders form Stampin’ Up and use them on a dark background, and I’ve been meaning to try out a technique with stencils that Ali Edwards uses sometimes. This was day!

I painted my index card with black watercolour paints – it would have been acrylic but I don’t own black acrylic! Then I paid down my 12×12 Punchinella stencil and pressed my Versamark pad over it. Once I removed the stencil, I sprinkled three different coloured embossing powders over it, and finished off the few open spots with silver. I love how it turned out, though in the future, I would use a lot less and be more careful of the silver since it went everywhere! The card has a lot more shine than I anticipated!

My only problem now was how to add my sentiment… More embossing, I guess! And then, since I was on an embossing roll, I embossed my wood veneer bird, I didn’t want it to feel left out, after all!

See all that shine? In certain lights all you can see is silver!

M decided to use the same technique as she watched the whole process with very big eyes! She chose the stars from Punchinella and wanted all silver, I guess she likes shimmer as much as her Mama does! I held the stencil while she stamped the Versamark, then she sprinkled on the silver powder. After that there was a litle fight about who would heat up the powder.

I won. πŸ™‚ But she watched very closely.

So this is the front:

And then she saw a brown napkin we had used yesterday to blot the water out of her paints and she wanted to add that too. Once it was on and dry, she didn’t want to add anything else over that either! So here’s the back:

I love it, though it did take me an hour or more to convince her to let me photograph it. She decided that she didn’t like people looking at her things, hahaha! As you can tell, she caved eventually – I think hearing from Nana that she loves to look at M’s cards on the computer did it!

See you tomorrow!

Index Card A Day – #14

M and I both made cards for yesterday but she was a little more specific about how she wanted hers to be than I was!

I stamped script in Hero Arts Mid-Tone Shadow ink, then added some Tissue Tape. Over that I layered paper towel (of course!). This one happened to be covered in bright Dylusons Ink Sprays so I tore it up and just added the pieces I wanted, since there was a lot of open white space I didn’t need.

I really liked the look of the vibrant colours and didn’t want to mess with it too much so I simply smeared some white gesso over a patch, stamped my sentiment, and added some extra texture and dimension with a stencil and Coarse Pumice Gel.

I love that Gel, it feels like sand and the kids can’t stop touching my card! πŸ™‚

M did another beautiful watercolour but then wanted to mist over it. Since she has a hard time trying to push down on the mister (and I didn’t feel like D would appreciate hot pink and lime green on the ceiling) I helped her with that part. She picked the mists, put her finger on the nozzle, and pointed out the exact spot she wanted it to go (telling her mist doesn’t work that way fell on deaf ears), while I helped her push down and aimed the nozzle the right way.

It was a combo of Dylusions, Colour Wash, and Perfect Pearls and I think it looks pretty cool – it has some awesome shimmer IRL!

Back tomorrow with cards from both of us again!

In the meantime, who’s going to crop night? I can’t wait – see you there!

(NOTE: We think we have the internet issues figured out – fingers crossed. Sorry for any late replies to your comments, I should be more on the ball after today!)

I’m so happy I remember to do the 12 on Twelve on the right day this month – doing it on the 14th last month grated a little on the anal retentive nerve I have!

Here are the pics:

1. M flying with Jake and the Neverland Pirates – and little pinch of pixie dust!

2. A favourite morning treat – peanut butter and nutella on a spoon.

3. New Legos – the bagpiper and hippie, with a front end loader.

4. A favourite new game – squishing each other on the kitchen floor!

5. G digging in the playground, sweating it out in his hoodie (everyone else was in tees and shorts but he refused to take anything off).

6. G in the swing and my first attempt at sun flare – I like it!

7. Flowers for Mama.

8. Bringing the wagon home so “You don’t have to do it, Mama!”

9. My creative mess – the kitchen island will never be the same colour again!

10. Lori came for a visit – and added to the creative mess with her ICAD.

11. First evening nice enough to BBQ and eat it outside.

12. Bath time.
