So, those of you who have been reading my blog know that lately I’ve been loving my my mom’s sewing machine. Earlier this week she came and took it away – to make curtains! Really, Mom, curtains? My paper crafting is soooooo much more important! 😉

Anyway, the day she came to make me cry borrow take back her sewing machine, I ran downstairs and did a quick stitch around an index card so I’d have one to play with – yesterday was the day!

I misted the card with water, rubbed Distress Stains over it, then misted with water again to make them blend even more. It’s a small miracle the card didn’t simply disintegrate under that much abuse. And I’m wasn’t finished with it yet!

I took mercy and dried the card after all that, then laid down a stencil and misted with Bronze Perfect Pearls Mist. Heat set again. I stamped the butterflies and words in Cobalt Archival Ink and the swirls (an old, old Fancy Pants set) in Coffee Archival Ink and called it done.

I love how the misting turned out – in some lights you see a small shimmer, in other lights you really see the bronze pattern. And Archival Ink is becoming a new love – I have an order placed for a bunch of new colours – yay!

I also like how the stitching turned out to be a textural component rather than a frame, as I initially intended – love when things turn out different but better than planned!

M spent most of yesterday with Nana (the sewing machine thief) baking brownies, playing with her new toys, and watching TV so an index card was pretty low on her list of priorities, we’ll see what today brings!

Daisy Yellow, ICAD, ICAD2, The Paperie

Oh yeah, I’m ready for the weekend!

I have a fun party at my mom’s tonight, all ladies from what I can gather, and there will be some fun ones in attendance! I’m looking forward to lots of laughing, a little wine, and good food – what more could I ask for?

And tomorrow night Cathie, Tina, and I are getting together for our first Art Journal night. I can’t wait to see what kind of mess we’re going to get in! 🙂

I have a Paperie Pick post going live later today or tomorrow at The Paperie blog, so look out for that – it’s all about club kits and here’s a sneaky peek:

Finally, some fun news I’ve been holding onto – I’m a hostess for Week 2 of Index Card a Day over at Daisy Yellow! There will be 1-2 hostesses each day of Week 2 using one of the 10 prompts to make their card. It starts today, so go on over and check out the fabulous cards today’s artists created! And look out for my post on Monday – I’m hoping for some good inspiration from my prompt by then…

Have a great weekend!

Coca-Cola, Flickr Gallery, ICAD, Index Card A Day, Kiddies, Paperie

1. I’m still loving Index Card A Day, which I’m sure you’ve picked up on! You can start any time with no pressure to catch up – I think Anne and Graham would do awesome stuff with this… 🙂

M has done the last couple of days with me and her cards are getting rave reviews in the Flickr Gallery!

2. I am not a cola fan. As a matter of fact, I am not a soft drink fan. Or a caffeine fan. I digress!

I am not a cola fan, but…this is pretty awesome!

3. G spent part of the day like this:

yelling, “3, 4, 6, 8! 3, 4, 6, 8!” I’m pretty sure he meant 2, 4, 6, 8 but hey, it’s close for a 3-year-old! And don’t ask about the bowl, I guess it was necessary for a counting Superman wannabe! Sorry for the very blurry pic, he thought it was a fun game to run whenever I picked up the camera!

4. I spent part of today making tags for this class and discovering a fun new technique – I can’t wait to share! If you have Distress Markers, or want to know more about them, come to The Paperie on Wednesday for 10 technique tags – it’s going to be fun!

Sneak Peek!

5. I bought 4 of these for the kiddies today – M wants the bunny but I couldn’t find it and got tired of feeling up the packages! 🙂 If anyone finds one and wants to pass it along, that would be awesome!

Check later this evening for a new ICAD, including one by Miss M!

Adirondack Color Wash, Christy Tomlinson, ICAD, ICAD2, Perfect Pearls Mist, Pink Paislee, Ranger, Stamper's Anonymous, Tim Holtz

This one turned out a little more interesting than I expected due to the Perfect Pearls Mist and how it reacted to the texture gel I used. The outcome was a pretty cool effect!

I first laid down a Christy Tomlinson SheArt stencil and spread Liquitex Coarse Texture Gel over it. Normally I’m too impatient to wait for it to dry and heat set it, which makes some neat effects, but this time I was busy during the day and so it had time to dry on its own.

Once dry, I did one quick spray with Adirondack Color Wash, misted with water to get it all to spread and blend, and then dried the card. I stamped a sentiment and *almost* called it boring, but done.

But I had to add some shimmer, just had to add something to give it a little more oomph. So I sprayed Blue Patina Perfect Pearls Mist, assuming I’d get a bit of blue shimmer over the whole thing and make it a little more fun.

Boy, was I wrong! For some reason, the texture gel resisted the mist, causing it all to pool in the spaces between and making them super blue and shimmery – awesome! I love the Blue Patina colour so was very happy to really see it stand out and it looks amazing with the purple mist!

Isn’t that the coolest? All in all, this turned out way better than first thought – I love unexpected outcomes!

Stop back tomorrow, I have two cards to share – one is a very special one! 🙂

Ali Edwards, American Crafts, Amy Tangerine, Dylusions, Dylusions Ink Spray, ICAD, ICAD2, Ranger, Technique Tuesday

I decided to try a new product in my stash for this one – Microglaze. It’s almost like a firm type of Vaseline, or a less firm wax. Somewhere in between those…

Anyway, I spread a very thin layer over a Dylusions stencil, then firmly rolled paper towel over to pick up any excess (I didn’t want it to smear when
I added additional layers).

Next, I misted some Dylusions Ink Spray on my non-stick craft sheet and dragged my card through, then carefully wiped the excess from the Microglaze – awesome resist!

I then stamped a bunch of sentiments from Ali Edwards for Technique Tuesday, pulling out all the ones with the word “life” in them. A fuchsia sharpie, some doodling, and an Amy Tangerine Fabric sticker finished it off!

Life

Final thoughts – I had no idea where I was going with this but I really like how it turned out. Love how the Microglaze worked and there’s no greasy or waxy residue left over. And the small pops of pink make me happy! 🙂

ICAD, ICAD2, Ranger, The Crafter's Workshop, Tissue Tape

Day 2 for ICAD and I went bright and cheery – the complete opposite of the RDF (rain, drizzle, and fog!) that’s happening outside my window!

if you believe…

I covered my index card in Ranger Tissue Tape – love that stuff! – and then added blobs of fluid watercolour to the left side. I only have a few so I had to mix the orange and purple and I’m pretty happy with how they turned out. Once all my blobs of paint were lined up, I used the side of my hand to swipe them across the card. 🙂

I’m still kicking myself for not taking a pic of my hand, it was pretty cool with all the colours!

Once the paint dried, I laid a Crafter’s Workshop Stencil down and swiped light molding paste over it, which I then heat set to cause bubbling and that velvety finished look. Because the molding paste is wet, it mixed with the watercolours beneath and added some colour to the paste – it looks pretty neat IRL and it has a lot of texture and dimension!

The stencil actually reads, “if you believe you can you will” but I wanted to just use the first part so you can fill in the rest. For example, if you believe it will be warm and sunny, it will! Wishful thinking?

Once it was finished, I felt like the words didn’t stand out enough so I used my black fine tip Sharpie to line the letters and add a little doodling around the edges.

Here’s hoping my bright, cheery, and hopeful card brings brighter days…soon!

Index Card A Day – #1

Claudine Hellmuth Studio, ICAD, ICAD2, Index card, Ranger, Studio Calico, The Crafter's Workshop

So I’ve decided to do a quick post everyday with my index cards – let’s see how long that lasts!

Here is day #1 – June 1:

I had planned to use the map prompt, even had some little circle map pieces from Studio Calico’s Abroad collection cut out. As you can see, it just didn’t happen…and I’m ok with that since I like how this ultimately turned out.

I stamped white tissue paper with Olive Archival ink, then smooshed it onto the index card with Claudine Hellmuth Studio Matte Multimedium – the multimedium made the red line on the index card run a little which was pretty cool too. I made sure to get wrinkles in the tissue paper for more texture.

Once that dried, I broke out my watercolours (finally!) and painted purple, turquoise, and lilac in stripes over the tissue paper. I really watered them down to make a wash of colour.

Then I broke out my Mini Herringbone stencil from the Crafter’s Workshop, some light modeling paste, and my new liquid watercolours. Lesson learned, liquid watercolours make your modeling paste too runny and so the stencil impression wasn’t as clean as I would have liked. Still a neat look though, so it’s all good!

I stamped a camera in Cobalt Archival ink, cut it out, distressed the edges, and adhered it to the tag, along with a wood veneer Studio Calico bird that I painted in shades of purple.

Finally, I broke out my teeny tiny cheapo letter stamps and added the words in Jet Black Archival ink.

I love the colours, and how there are bits of tissue overhanging the edges of the card, giving it a slightly tattered look. I even like the messy modeling paste – it worked with the look of the whole card.

Now…. What to do today? 🙂
