CHA, CHA-S, Dyan Reaveley, Dylusions, Ranger, Studio Calico, The Crafter's Workshop, Tim Holtz

First, a little note: I know I’ve been posting a little less here – summer is busy! If you want to see more, I post pics and life bits on Twitter and Instagram (I’m saracees), follow me there! That’s also where you’ll find sneak peeks of upcoming classes! 😉

So CHA-S (Craft and Hobby Association, Summer 2012) is over and the companies in the crafting industry released their new product, focusing mostly on Halloween and Christmas. Here are some my faves of the new goodies!

1. Dyan Reaveley – Dylusions for Ranger

You know I love Ranger and you know I love the Dylusions line. The new Christmas stuff coming out is no exception. Top of my list is this sentiment stamp set – hilarious!

2. Tim Holtz – Ranger

Finally! Rock Candy Distress Stickles in a big jar with a brush! YAY!!!!

3. Studio Calico

A new collection for SC is Yearbook. And they have polaroid frames. These will be mine!

4. Dyan Reaveley – Dylusions for Ranger

OK, so I know I said the sentiments were top of my list but this is fighting for first place too! 🙂

5. The Crafter’s Workshop

I can’t narrow these down. With new designs from Julie Fei-Fan Balzer, Dina Wakeley, Karen Ellis, and Jaime Echt, there are more stencils than I could hope for. And I want them all! The Bug Doily makes me laugh, and I need the Whimsical Vines, and the Spilled Hearts are awesome!

Trust me, these aren’t the only things on my want/need list – but it’s a good start!

Leave a comment letting me know what you love and need from the new releases, I have no problem adding to my list! 🙂

35mm, Studio Calico

I’m back from an awesome vacation with M and although it’s nice to be back and the weather is amazing, I kind of wish we were still there! A week of doing just about nothing was fabulous! 🙂

I have just a short post for you today but it has some crafty eye candy so enjoy!

A few weeks ago I started a LO tag with a group of friends and now that it’s finished, I can show you my LO! And, for those of you who are wondering, LO tag is where an initial person (me, in this case) gets inspiration from another person’s work, then passes their take on it along to the next person on the list and so on until everyone is done. It’s super fun to see how much it all changes over the list of people. It’s kind of like the whisper game we played as kids, but in a crafty way instead!

I used the Studio Calico 35mm kit for the bulk of this, along with a roller date stamp and some flair. The picture I used is an all time favourite.

A little while ago my friend Cathie blogged and asked if anyone else reused favourite pics. I had to laugh because this one came to mind immediately! This is the second time (I think) that I’ve used it and I know it won’t be the last – so glad there are others who “recycle” their pictures too!

I’ll be back with the few ICAD’s I managed to get done on vacation – I’m waaaaay behind now! I’ll also do a vacation recap sometime this week when I get a chance to edit some photos!

I’m so sorry. My mojo is still in hiding so you have to suffer through another blerg card. You can leave now and come back tomorrow, I don’t mind, really!

Still here? Well, don’t say you weren’t warned….

Another premade background, this time with flexible molding paste and coarse pumice gel – the texture is amazing!

I painted each little block with different coloured Twinkling H2O’s, then misted with water to blend them all a little. I blotted with a paper towel and thought, “Blech.” Seriously. That was the word that came to my mind.

I took a Cosmo Cricket phrase sticker, cut it up, stuck it down and drew lines around the pieces. Then I coloured in the word “color.” Then I inked some wood veneer pieces and stuck them down. Then I threw my hands in the air and called it done.

The texture and shimmer is cool I guess. I’m sulking now….

Later, I’m finding my mojo, beating it into submission, and doing a good card. Or else.

I made this background a while back while showing my mom the Dylusions Ink Sprays and a stencil. I misted turquoise, blue, lime green, and orange and let them blend then dry.

Once dry, I sprayed hot pink through the stencil which made purple on the blue part of the card. I also used water for a ghosting technique and then covered the whole thing with Perfect Pearls Mist.

I stamped the house and sentiment on another misted background I had done and cut out all the pieces. With the house, I cut each layer of the roof apart and cut open the door on one side. When I pieced it all back together again, I only glued the tops of each roof piece and then bent them out for dimension. I also let the door swing open.

The stars were simply painted with gold Twinkling H2O’s and adhered.

I love these painty, blendy looking backgrounds and Dylusions mix to make the most amazing colours! I love the “shingles” on the roof too – fun, fun!

See you tomorrow for a few more!

ICAD, ICAD2, Idea-ology Chitchat Stickers, Perfect Pearls Mist, Pomegranate Stencil, Ranger, Studio Calico, The Crafter's Workshop, Wood Veneer Stars

I’m a bit behind on posting my index cards so there will be a few posts today – hope you enjoy!

I’ve had an idea for this card in my head for a while but was waiting on my wood veneer stars to arrive before I did it. It’s pretty simple but I love the shades of blue and purple.

My oldest and best friend and I took our kiddies to the beach for this past wet and grey weekend and I made this card while I was there so I had limited supplies with me but I’m happy with how it all came together.

I painted the background with my cheapy watercolour paints, which I love, and used lots of water and shades to really blend it together. I didn’t want any lines, just a gradual fade into the darker colours of blue and purple.

Once it dried I misted Heirloom Gold Perfect Pearls Mist over my mini Pomegranate stencil. As an aside, that stencil is the best! It’s so versatile and seems to work with and be whatever you want – love it!

Anyway…. I then painted the stars with Metallic Gold Paint Dabber, then sprayed those and the Chitchat word stickers with Heirloom Gold Perfect Pearls Mist. I had to stamp the word “star” but there is some extra sticky paper left on the Chitchat word sheets so I just used that. I adhered it all to the card and inked the edges to finish it off.

I love the sparkle of the mist and the little bit of dimension from the stars:

What do you think of the stencil? Looks like sky/comet/galaxy/space stuff to me! Do I need the 12×12 version, what do you all think?

Back soon with another one – I had to try a fun material my friend Cathie has been using! 😉

Archival Ink, ICAD, ICAD2, Simple Stories, Studio Calico, Unity Stamp Company

I got some crafty stuff in the mail and I wanted to try out the new ink colours – that’s how this started but it definitely went it’s own way after that!

I began by using matte medium to glue and seal old book paper to my index card. Then I stamped a Tim Holtz Mixed Media stamp with four different vibrant Archival Inks.  However, right before stamping I noticed that the text on the book paper said, “I love you.” and “I love you too.” That was too good to cover so I masked it off. Once the stamping was done and the masks removed I liked it but…..whatever.

So I took an old paper towel, cut out holes for the text and glued that over the whole thing. You can still see the stamping beneath but it makes it all a little more cohesive though darker than I wanted. Oh well! 🙂

Finally, I did some stamping, lucked into the phrases being the exact right distance apart for my stamps, and added a wood veneer heart.

There was no way I was getting a good picture of the texture but I heat set the paper towel which made it bubble up and it’s very cool.

I plan to use the tiny little wood veneer stars for my next card – let’s hope it goes as planned!

(Note: This is my third ICAD post today, check here and here for the others!)

I started out with a completely different card base but then messed it up and wasn’t in the mood to try and fix it – so I pulled out a previously messed up card base and worked on that instead!

I had originally used Matte Multi Medium to adhere the book paper to the card and then misted over the top, wiping away most of the excess. It didn’t work with the idea I had in mind for that day so I put it aside. Luckily, it was perfect for this one!

I added Bronze and Interference Red Perfect Pearls Mists, then used my gold and silver Metallic Paint Dabbers to stamp the stars and create the moon. I outlined with a black pen, and used Tim Holtz Chitchat stickers, plus Lawn Fawn stamps for the sentiment.

I had thought to use a wood veneer airplane but when I opened the bag and saw the bicycle I laughed at the thought of an ET type of card – so I went with it! Even if no one else gets it, it makes me laugh!

Love the interest that book paper gives the background, and it always adds a great textural element as well – I’m glad I held onto this one and kept it out of the trash bin!

Hopefully, the mess I set aside earlier will come to a good end another day…

See you all tomorrow for another Tuesday Techniques: Stencil post – I’m breaking out the molding paste!

After yesterday’s very flat, for me, card, I wanted a little more dimension and some more layers for this one.

Before I start, a question for you – what do you do with the dried up paint on your craft sheet? Here’s what I did!

That’s right, my friends, I made little dried up paint blobs and used them as embellishments – nothing is garbage anymore, I’m afraid!

I painted the background of this card with the leftover tinted gesso from yesterday’s card and let it dry. Then I used another new stencil, the Pointy Circles, and smeared Coarse Texture Gel over a portion of it. I was busy so I waited for it to dry, shocking, but true!

Once it was ready to go, I misted my Dylusions over portions and blotted the excess. I kept layering like that until I had the shades and blends I wanted. I then added vintage book paper, smeared mist over that, added the paint blobs (which I love!), and a leftover heart from a previous card, then misted the whole thing with Kiwi Perfect Pearls Mist. I finished it off with a stamp from Lawn Fawn, one of my favourites.

D is picking up the new seasonal Distress Inks for me this evening so you can bet they’ll be on today’s card, which I’ll post for you here tomorrow! I can’t wait to get my fingers on those fabulous colours!

Golden, ICAD, ICAD2, Liquitex, Ranger, Studio Calico, The Crafter's Workshop

A couple of friends popped by yesterday for a visit and asked M if she was going to school in the fall. Then they said to me, “It seems like yesterday you were taking her into the Paperie in her baby carrier.” It really does, and now she’s almost five. Big sigh.

That’s where this card came from:

I misted the plain card with Dylusions and let them spread and run over the card. Then I randomly stamped script over portions with Olive Archival Ink. I used my new clock stencil with light molding paste, then mixed some of the same with black paint and did the circles from Punchinella. Finally, I used coarse texture gel with the Pointy Circles stencil and heated them so they spread and went funny.

I finished the card with my cheap alpha stamps and a wood veneer plane.

I put the molding paste on pretty thick and I’m very impressed with how well the image transferred and how puffy it is – sweet!

I’m having quite the day with the kiddies so crossing fingers the technique post actually happens today! 🙂

Index Card A Day – #9 & #10

Ali Edwards, Ranger, Studio Calico

So, I’m going a little backwards here but I was so busy last night getting the post done for this morning that I didn’t have a chance to do day 9 and, since I’m here, I may as well do both days together!

Day #9

My mojo, as I mentioned, left me this past weekend and I had some major trouble doing anything that didn’t resemble sludge on a card. This one was sludge on a card. Really. I did some misting and stencilling and it was a disaster. I’m learning though, that nasty base layers make for good dimension and interest when buried beneath good layers! And in this case the good layer was some used paper towels that came to my rescue, like the napkins did a few days ago!

You can see some of the stencilling peeking through above the car… Anyway, I slapped on one ply of paper towel, randomly added some stamping, and then, because I was trying to get past my alphabet stamp block, I stamped all my letters and cut them out for the quote. I love Dr. Seuss! The blue stamp on the bottom was done with acrylic paint and the car is a wood veneer shape from Studio Calico. All stamps are Stamper’s Anonymous for Ranger, except the cheap alpha stamps.

The final step was a mist of Perfect Pearls in Perfect Pearl colour.

I love how it turned out – bright, fun, textural, and Dr.Seuss – you can’t go wrong!

Day #10

This card stated with the same base as Day #11 did and again, you can see the letters poking through, I love that!

I used a mask and mist, some Dylusions Stamps (the house was borrowed from a friend but I may have to have the set!) and of course, an Ali Edwards sentiment – she really is the best! Coloured in with Distress Markers and smudged with my finger – love the soft look that gave! – and added tissue tape to the edges which I painted with Gold Adirondack Metallic Paint Dabber.

I really played with the gesso and I love the texture and dimensional aspect it gave the card! This is one of my favourites so far, and it started out as one I almost threw away – yikes!

Still loving this challenge and the inspiration from Instagram and Flickr – people are doing amazing work our there!

See you tomorrow for more stencil fun!
