(note: I totally forgot to set this to post yesterday morning – sorry!)

#46 – mandala

If you follow me on Twitter, you already know that this card did not want to be made – it blew into the pool and got soaked twice! Thank goodness for permanent ink!

The ink in the background (Hero Arts Shadow and Mid-tone Inks) did bleed a little but the stamped pattern is still perfectly intact.

I drew the mandala with my black Zig pen from Kuretake and added a few tiny highlights with my white Uniball.

There’s nothing else because, frankly, after drying it out a second time I was simply ready to be done with it! 🙂

#47 – I was cleansed forgiven….

This one was just fun to do. I used my Twinkling H2O’s and randomly painted, adding extra colour here and there, then added in some stencils and punchinella.

I finished by stamping the sentiment on a pre-made background of a contrasting colour, then cut it out and added it.

As always, I love the shine – it makes me happy!

Hoping to be back tomorrow with another couple of cards or maybe vacation photos – I haven’t forgotten about that!

Index Card A Day – #44 & #45

Two more index cards for you today and they’re very different from each other!

#44 – one day at a time

I made this one while I was away with very limited supplies. I used a second generation type of inking to get the lighter swirl and text images. Then I used regular inking to stamp the sentiment and butterflies. I coloured them with my Koh-i-noor pencils and smudged with my fingers to blend and give them the halo. Simple, basic….

#45 – celebrating…

This card is special – it was our wedding anniversary and so I made a card to celebrate that – even though I was on vacation away from D!

I used my Twinkling H2O’s, of course, to make the shimmery stripes and paint the wood veneer people, then stamped the sentiment in Jet Black Archival Ink.

The fun part of this is that the sentiment is actually pieces of three different stamps all jumbled together. I simply cut them apart and stamped the bits as I wanted. Have I mentioned before how much I love Ali Edwards and Technique Tuesday?

Oh, right, only a few thousand times! 🙂

I’m pretty sure I’ve also mentioned my love for Twinkling H2O’s…..

See you all next week for more ICAD’s and a vacation recap in pictures!

CHA, CHA-S, Dyan Reaveley, Dylusions, Ranger, Studio Calico, The Crafter's Workshop, Tim Holtz

First, a little note: I know I’ve been posting a little less here – summer is busy! If you want to see more, I post pics and life bits on Twitter and Instagram (I’m saracees), follow me there! That’s also where you’ll find sneak peeks of upcoming classes! 😉

So CHA-S (Craft and Hobby Association, Summer 2012) is over and the companies in the crafting industry released their new product, focusing mostly on Halloween and Christmas. Here are some my faves of the new goodies!

1. Dyan Reaveley – Dylusions for Ranger

You know I love Ranger and you know I love the Dylusions line. The new Christmas stuff coming out is no exception. Top of my list is this sentiment stamp set – hilarious!

2. Tim Holtz – Ranger

Finally! Rock Candy Distress Stickles in a big jar with a brush! YAY!!!!

3. Studio Calico

A new collection for SC is Yearbook. And they have polaroid frames. These will be mine!

4. Dyan Reaveley – Dylusions for Ranger

OK, so I know I said the sentiments were top of my list but this is fighting for first place too! 🙂

5. The Crafter’s Workshop

I can’t narrow these down. With new designs from Julie Fei-Fan Balzer, Dina Wakeley, Karen Ellis, and Jaime Echt, there are more stencils than I could hope for. And I want them all! The Bug Doily makes me laugh, and I need the Whimsical Vines, and the Spilled Hearts are awesome!

Trust me, these aren’t the only things on my want/need list – but it’s a good start!

Leave a comment letting me know what you love and need from the new releases, I have no problem adding to my list! 🙂

Index Card A Day – #42 & #43

I’m very behind on posting my index cards and am very, very behind on the number of cards I should have – vacation pushed me back and I have a class this weekend to prep for so it will be a bit before I can catch up. I do have a couple of posts for you this week of the ones that are completed.

The two I’m showing you today were made the night before I left on vacation at a crafty night with Tina and Marg. Technically, since my flight was 6am, I should have been in bed, not making index cards! 🙂

#42 – Being happy…

This one has a lot going on. I first rubbed purple ink through a floral stencil and didn’t like how it looked – flowers and purple are not really me! Then I used molding paste through the Zinnia stencil and once it dried, misted and inked through some punchinella stencils, a nice little gift from my friend Marg!

I stamped the sentiment on another pre-made background – that seems to be my favourite thing to do lately – and cut it out before adhering to the card.

I love the mix of colours and texture, even the hints of purple flowers that show through!

#43 – let’s go for a ride

This is a flat one but with enough other interesting things going on that I felt leaving off the dimension was ok – strange for me!

I used my blending tool to cover the background with Distress Ink and then I flicked it with water to get the lighter spots. I used Metallic Paint Dabbers and ink with the punchinella templates, then stamped the bike, sentiment, and leaves with Archival Ink. I used a water brush on the interior of the leaves to lighten the colour and added accents with my Sakura Stardust pen.

I love the little bit of shine the pen and the metallic paint gives the card!

See you tomorrow for some more cards and maybe a sneak peek of this weekend’s Yearlong Album class!

Only 3 weeks left to this fun venture! Can’t believe I’m this far along already! The problem is that my mojo went on vacation – argh! Vacation is next week, not this one!

Super simple here – I simply sprayed the card with Dylusions Ink Spray and stamped the pen nibs along the side. Then I left it for a couple of weeks! 🙂

I laid a couple of stencils over the top and rubbed in Distress Ink which I highlighted with white gel pen. I stamped a bunch of words from a Technique Tuesday set, then used Pumice Stone Distress Ink to stamp the script background. I was so fed up with it at that point that I dated the back and said enough!

Blerg. Oh well, they can’t all be masterpieces, right?

For this card I wanted to try a technique that I’ve used many times before, but it has a twist that Kristina Werner did in the newest Online Card Classes: Stretch Your Stamps Class.

I inked the background with the new Summer Seasonal Distress Inks, dried it, and then stamped a script background with VersaMark Ink. I heat embossed in clear and then rubbed black ink over the whole card. After wiping away the excess, I got this super cool look with the multicoloured text showing.

I inked a butterfly stamp with same colours and misted to blend, then stamped on a scrap card. I cut out the butterflies, wrapped coloured string around for the antennae, then adhered them with rolled glue dots.

I stamped the sentiment on a previously made background card, cut it out, stuck it on and the card was done!

Love how the multicoloured background turned out – I’ll be using this again for sure!

And the dimension of the butterflies with the shine of the embossing is great!

I made this background a while back while showing my mom the Dylusions Ink Sprays and a stencil. I misted turquoise, blue, lime green, and orange and let them blend then dry.

Once dry, I sprayed hot pink through the stencil which made purple on the blue part of the card. I also used water for a ghosting technique and then covered the whole thing with Perfect Pearls Mist.

I stamped the house and sentiment on another misted background I had done and cut out all the pieces. With the house, I cut each layer of the roof apart and cut open the door on one side. When I pieced it all back together again, I only glued the tops of each roof piece and then bent them out for dimension. I also let the door swing open.

The stars were simply painted with gold Twinkling H2O’s and adhered.

I love these painty, blendy looking backgrounds and Dylusions mix to make the most amazing colours! I love the “shingles” on the roof too – fun, fun!

See you tomorrow for a few more!

Cosmo Cricket, Creative Imginations/Luminarte, Dylusions Ink Sprays, ICAD, ICAD2, Ranger, Twinkling H2O's

A while back I saw a tutorial using Ranger Foil Tape and alcohol inks. I loved the concept and kept meaning to try it but….. You know how it goes!

However, my friend Cathie gave it a spin and then did a couple of other things with tin foil and I knew I had to just go do it!

I used Matte multi medium to adhere tin foil to a cad (basically, I was too lazy to go downstairs and look for my Foil Tape!) and let it dry. I then used my Twinkling H2O’s to paint the surface. Although you can’t see the shimmer, the colours are fabulous!

I used a couple of stencils and Dylusions Ink sprays to add some additional interest and finished it by adding a Cosmo Cricket sticker.

It was super hard to get a pic of the texture, shine, and colour – crossing my fingers that you can see it well enough!

Easy and fun and I have a couple of other ideas for foil tape. Hopefully it won’t take so long to get around to doing them this time!

ICAD, ICAD2, Idea-ology Chitchat Stickers, Perfect Pearls Mist, Pomegranate Stencil, Ranger, Studio Calico, The Crafter's Workshop, Wood Veneer Stars

I’m a bit behind on posting my index cards so there will be a few posts today – hope you enjoy!

I’ve had an idea for this card in my head for a while but was waiting on my wood veneer stars to arrive before I did it. It’s pretty simple but I love the shades of blue and purple.

My oldest and best friend and I took our kiddies to the beach for this past wet and grey weekend and I made this card while I was there so I had limited supplies with me but I’m happy with how it all came together.

I painted the background with my cheapy watercolour paints, which I love, and used lots of water and shades to really blend it together. I didn’t want any lines, just a gradual fade into the darker colours of blue and purple.

Once it dried I misted Heirloom Gold Perfect Pearls Mist over my mini Pomegranate stencil. As an aside, that stencil is the best! It’s so versatile and seems to work with and be whatever you want – love it!

Anyway…. I then painted the stars with Metallic Gold Paint Dabber, then sprayed those and the Chitchat word stickers with Heirloom Gold Perfect Pearls Mist. I had to stamp the word “star” but there is some extra sticky paper left on the Chitchat word sheets so I just used that. I adhered it all to the card and inked the edges to finish it off.

I love the sparkle of the mist and the little bit of dimension from the stars:

What do you think of the stencil? Looks like sky/comet/galaxy/space stuff to me! Do I need the 12×12 version, what do you all think?

Back soon with another one – I had to try a fun material my friend Cathie has been using! 😉

Tuesday Techniques – Dylusions Ink Sprays

10 Tuesday Jul 2012

Dylusions Ink Spray, Ranger, Tuesday Techniques

Before I start I just want to say that this will be the last Tuesday Technique post this summer. The weather is beautiful, we’re always outside, and I simply don’t have the time to blog like I want to right now! Hope you all understand – things will get back to normal in the fall! We have so little great weather here that I feel the need to take full advantage while it’s nice!

Moving along…

You should all know my love of Dylusions Ink sprays by now, I do use them once in a while! 😉 So, I decided to do a quick little tutorial on how to use and layer them to build backgrounds. All you need are your Ink Sprays:

…and some water!

Dylusions work best for the techniques I’ll be showing you as they were made to react and play with water for neat effects.

First, pick your colours and randomly, but heavily, mist your surface:

I always mist with water and roll paper towel over it after the initial step. This will blend the colours a little more and take off the excess water while subduing the vibrancy a bit. Remember, we’re going for a background here, it needs to be a little more subtle!

The next step is to lay a stencil over the misted surface and spray with water.

Since the Ink Sprays react, the stencil creates a ghost like image to appear. Don’t worry if it doesn’t show up immediately when you try this, it takes a second for the water and ink to react and as the surface dries, the ghosted image becomes more pronounced.

Finally, after drying what’s been done so far, I spatter mist on top to get coloured droplets. All I do is remove the top of the bottle and shake the tube of ink over the surface – instant drops instead of mist!

I almost always finish my bright backgrounds with black stamped images – they stand out better and they make the colours pop. For the lighter images, I rub the ink pad over the stamp instead of properly inking up the stamp. You get a second generation look without having to stamp off first.

Hope you enjoyed this last tag of the summer and I hope you stick around for my erratic postings over the next month or so!

As always, please link me up to your projects – I’d love to see what you create!
