Painty fun!

I had another class in the Distress Renewed series last week and we got good and painty! So much so that I now have green all over one of my shirts – boo. Surprisingly, I don’t normally get dirty – I once wore white from head to toe while doing a Marah Johnson/Creative Imaginations mixed media class and came out of it spotless – true story!

Anyway….. here’s what we made!

We went blendy and drippy and rainbowy for the first one:

rainbow with gold

I added a great quote with the awesome Teresa Collins alphas:

rainbow with gold title

And we went dry brush crazy for the second!

Dry brushing over cold press watercolour paper makes some amazing texture!

And we finished it off with more stickers from the element sheet and some painted wood veneer stars:

Of course, we played a bit and made card fronts with other Distress Paint techniques too…

Fun times, as always!

We have more of these classes coming up in the fall so if you have any products lying around, wondering what you could do with them, let me know – maybe they’ll be the focus of the next Renewed class!

Better late than never this month! We spent the weekend with my oldest friend and her kids at Salmon Cove Sands where my family has a cabin. It’s a tradition for sure – Girl’s weekend plus Gabe – we’ve been doing it twice a summer since 2008 (though Gabe didn’t enter the picture until a year later!)july1. Every day is better when it starts with bubbles.

2. We were swarmed with ladybugs the whole day – lots of luck coming to us!

3. best of buddies, even with the ages going from 5-almost 11

4. my cousin Andrew, in the province to hike the East Coast trail – good to see him at one of our favourite places!

5. me and Suzette – bff’s since 1981

6. It’s not a day at the beach unless you dig a big hole…

7. or collect beach rocks and shells….

8. or get buried in the sand!

9. covered in dirt, surrounded by buckets, happy as can be.

10. yeah, they’re crazy…

11. and we’re adding a fifth one next year!

12. Huge moon, behind the clouds, over the ocean

Molly: No, Gabe! You have to save us!

Gabe: But I’m really freaking out! (he sounds pretty excited to me. Just saying. 🙂 )

Molly: You’re Gabe the Brave, you can do it!

(Gabe comes upstairs): I need socks and shoes.

Me: Why?

Gabe (looking determined and thrilled): So I can squash it dead! Yeah! (insert fist pump here)

They’re a blood thirsty crew, my lot.

For the record, he squashed it dead *and* cleaned up the bug guts!

Canada Day, Memorial Day, Newfoundland

Canadian_Flag

To all my fellow Canadians – Happy Canada Day! I hope you are having a great holiday with fabulous weather and amazing people around you!

To all my fellow Newfoundlanders, take time for Memorial Day today. Here in Newfoundland we remember the battle at Beaumont-Hamel during WW1 before we celebrate. It was day of tragic losses for us and the number of young men who never returned home was almost unimaginable. Take a moment for them.

Simple Scrapper Show & Tell | June 2014

simple scrapper show&tellThe June content for Simple Scrapper is now out and all the Premium Members are, I’m sure, enjoying their new templates and Spark magazine. Here’s what I did this month!

I actually made two LO’s for the same story starter this month, but used two different templates. The first one was using my April 12 on Twelve pics:

aprilI loved using my new Ali Edwards stamps for this – they were perfect! And the tile was fun to do with all the alpha stickers on my Bella Blvd. sheet:

april titleI used my May pics for another LO:

12on12I used the same alphas and idea for the title here and with both LO’s I used my newly found typewriter for the journaling!

12on12 stripsThis was so much fun that I think I’m going to have to do all my 12 on Twelve pics this year the same way.

My template only LO was a mixed media one and I love the colours. They worked perfectly with a pic of Molly, Gabe, and I at Easter:

my peepsI layered a transparency over the crayon resist and added twinkle stars for some shine:

my peeps layersTo keep the shimmer going, I added sparkle buttons to a crumpled doily in the top corner:

my peeps cornerI love little embellishment clusters in the corners of LO’s!

Be sure to go check out the Team Gallery this month to see the Team’s favourite LO’s and then go check out the Show & Tell. Don’t forget to leave a link to your own work and then hop around and enjoy the eye candy everyone is posting!

What a Hoopla!

Classes, Home Decor, The Paperie, Tim Holtz fabric

First, I’m sorry for the long absence – I was away visiting my brother and his wife and their brand new baby!!! When I got home it struck me that I had 7 classes, three sets of design team projects, and a guest blog post due by the end of June – eek! Happily, I enjoy it but I had to hunker down and get a chunk of that done before I could post here.

But now I’m back and today it’s all about the Home Decor Hoopla at The Paperie this past weekend. It was their 10th anniversary and so we had a Hoopla class, some great sales, cake, and lots of fun! We’ve done a Holiday Hoopla the past couple of years at Christmas where you get to make gifts, one from each of the Design Team Members. This year we expanded to a Home Decor idea and it was by far the best one yet! Five items, completed, for $50 – you can’t beat that, my friends!

Cathie had a quick and super simple item but it really looks amazing – coasters with the new Dina Wakley stamps!

you are enough

worth it

she believed

I think these would be awesome as a wall or office hanging for your favourite girl – or woman! And I’m looking around for the right stamps to make them for Gabe too – perfect sentiments for boys as well as girls!

Lori helped us make this fabulous burlap table runner:

runner

I love the texture, it was fun and easy, and you can personalize it by adding any extras you want. I, of course, added dots:

Mary Ann, our resident Silhouette guru, came up with this etched vase:

Unfortunately, she couldn’t make it but Tina stood in and did a great job teaching us how to get it all perfect! And sorry for the dirty glass – I guess I should have cleaned that before the picture!

Rae Lynn tweaked a Pinterest idea and we made a framed family tree:

family tree

Isn’t it gorgeous? What an awesome idea and so easy for gifts!

I added grass and popped up my clouds for some extra dimension and love how it turned out:

And my project was this wreath using the Tim Holtz Eclectic Elements fabric:

wreath

I love wreaths and have several that I change put over the year so it was fun for me to teach a project that I love to use in my own home.

The fabric was perfect for the roses on the wreath – great patterns and pinked edges:

rosesWe all had an excellent day with tons of fun. If you’re around these parts in December you should definitely look into taking the Holiday Hoopla!

I’ll be back soon with the LO’s from my last Distress Renewed Class – Dylusions Ink Sprays. Lots of inky fun in that one!

Party hair and a WINNER!

Big Picture Classes, giveaway winner

Almost every morning Molly and I have a fight about her hair. I want it up, or at least back in a hair band. She doesn’t want it brushed.

So imagine my surprise this morning when she declared that she wanted “Party Hair.”

What’s that, you say? Good question. It’s the same one I asked.

It turns out that “Party Hair” has one side up in a bun like a balloon and the other side left out like streamers.

I saw this all going terribly badly. However I forged ahead and, being the genius that I am, got it done. We had the bun/balloon on one side and for the “streamers” I twisted the other side up. It almost went downhill at that point but when I assured her that no one would ever let streamers just fall straight down, they always have to be twisted up to look more party-like, it was a go.

And here’s the final product – she was pleased as punch:

party hairPhew. Morning crisis #1 averted.

Now, to share a little something else with you all:

june card kit

Haha! Just a fun little sneak of the Paperie June Card Kit – I went outside the box on this one, my friends!

And finally, WINNER!!!

The lucky recipient of the spot in Big Picture Classes Art & Science of Scrapbooking Workshop is Bernadette – I’ve emailed you! Congratulations and enjoy!

P.S. Didn’t win the spot? You can sign up right here – it starts tomorrow!
