Classes, Dylusions Ink Spray, Mixed Media Layout, The Paperie

A while back I blogged about a new class series I was teaching called Distress Renewed. This is going to be bimonthly and a few weeks ago we had our second class. This one was all about Dylusions Ink Spray – one of my most fave products!

hangin out

Our first LO was all about using Dylusions to make a watercolour background with resist, complete with misted ghosting and bleach out clouds:

The second layout was showing the blendability and fun properties of the sprays:

Love how water ghosting works on these!

colourful life water ghostingI also had fun with my new-to-me vintage typewriter and the alpha stickers included in the class for the title work on this one:

Finally, we made card fronts using a bunch of techniques:

And that’s it – fun times getting messy and inky! Next class will be all about Distress Paints and I can’t wait to play!

Seasonal Canvas | Spring

Class, Julie Fei-Fan Balzer, mixed media canvas, Silks by Luminarte, The Crafter's Workshop

This week I’m teaching the second of my Seasonal Canvas Classes. I’ve already gotten Winter behind me (in canvas anyway, the weather here is another story!) and we’ll be making the Spring one Thursday night.

spring

Isn’t is fun? I love the fun colours in the kite and, although I am definitely no sketch artist, I’m happy with my little girl silhouette. That being said, she does have what Molly called, “Crazy, wild hair!

spring girl

And look at that texture! The stencils I used both happened to be by Balzer Designs for The Crafter’s Workshop and the dimension they add to a canvas is awesome!

spring texture

We’re using our regular deep-edge 6×6 canvas – love these!

spring depth

I think one of my favourite things about this class is that you can do all four classes and have a full set or just do one and still have a great decor piece for your home! There’s still a spot or two left so if you’re local and want to forget about all that ice we have here today, call The Paperie to sign up and join us.

S.

P.S. I also know that you wouldn’t fly a kite by holding the tail but it’s my canvas and I can do what I want! Artistic licence, right? 😉

Simple Scrapper Show & Tell | May 2014

Mixed Media Layout, Simple Scrapper

showtellIt’s time for the May Team Gallery reveal over at Simple Scrapper and that means it’s also time for the Community Show & Tell! I love this time of month – seeing what all the other Creative Team members have designed and also checking out the art work the rest of the SS Community have made is so much fun!

My sketch LO this month is based on a Story Starter from last month’s collection – I made the same LO for Gabe but with a different template. This one – about about Molly – is made with Bella Blvd’s Molly line. You know I just had to get my hands on that!

you right now

I used lots of papers and applied a favourite technique – clear embossing paste, coloured with mist and sprinkled with UTEE. I love the shiny and textural look it gives. I also added a black Wink of Stella pen to the heart wood veneer to give it some shimmer.

you right now shimmer

My story starter this month, combined with one of the current templates, gave me this LO:

my girl

It’s a fave of mine right now – the mixed media background, photo, and story all came together the way I was hoping it would. There’s also lots of shimmer and shine with glittery alphas and metallic pens:

Sorry I’ve been AWOL this week – it’s Easter break for the school kids this week and it’s thrown off my usual schedule.

On top of that it’s my baby’s birthday and his party tomorrow:

he's the cutest.... :)

he’s the cutest…. 🙂

As well, I’m teaching a class I needed to prep for, Simple Scrapper LO’s had to be completed, and the Paperie Retreat is next Wednesday – there’s been lots to do around here!

Here’s some eye candy bits and bobs for you to make up for the absence!

Some Simple Scrapper sneaks:

my girl

My story starter was fun – I made a beautiful mixed media background on that one as I was trying things out for an upcoming Dylusions class at The Paperie in May.

you - right now

you – right now

And more fun on my template LO for May – a fave technique for the background on this one!

For you Yearlong Album peeps, here’s a sneak of tomorrow’s class:

march layers

And finally, a LO from a mixed media class I took with Cathie – I love how this one turned out!

my boy

Some awesome layers with silver paint, gold embossing paste, tissue paper, and wood veneer with Wink of Stella pen:

my sweet Julianne!

A few weeks ago I made a letter “R” for a young friend as part of my Scrapbook Steals design work and I promised I would make one for her sister as well. I finally got around to it!

I used all October Afternoon product – I hoard their stuff – and had fun adding flags and banners:

j - banner

To make the name stand out, I traced the alphas with my White Sharpie Paint Pen and added a few dots as well:

j - name

I finished it all with doodling, of course!

Now, I just have to remember to deliver them…. 🙂

Art Journal pages – finally!

Art Journal, Dina Wakley, Mixed media, Ranger, The Crafter's Workshop

Yeah, so the posting of my Art Journal pages just didn’t happen yesterday. C’est la vie, I’ll show them to you today!

Our Art Journal night was all about colour and it was fun, fun, fun. As a side note, Dina Wakley’s book Art Journal Freedom is a fabulous reference book for colour theory – and a bunch of other things too!

Out first page was about monochromatic colour, though mine ended up being more analogous, which was fine with me:

yesSome reduction stenciling ala Dina Wakley, a pop of contrast colour through a Ronda Palazzari stencil for The Crafter’s Workshop, and some awesome Dina Wakley Media stamps for Ranger. I also added a pop of colour on one of the hearts:

yes heartI also added a doodled border with my new favourite Sharpie White Paint Pen – it’s all kinds of goodness.

The second page was all about split complementary colours:

beautiful

I used Silks glaze so my complementary colours are quite muted. I like it but I think I’m going to go back in and punch it up a bit. I already did that a little by flicking deep orange paint splatters but I want more. This page isn’t really finished yet, I don’t think.

I added a cut out face from Dina Wakley’s stamps and painted circles which I then journaled in.

beautiful face

Like it overall, but it definitely needs something more. We’ll have to see…

Also, go to Julie’s blog today – she’s got her weekly Art Journal everyday post up and you can link up and/or see lots of inspiring pages over there!

Paperie Card Kit – March 2014: Part 3 – Assemblage Clock

Assemblage Clock, Luminarte, Silks, The Paperie Card Kit, Tim Holtz

So, it’s been a bit longer than anticipated but I’m finally back with the last piece I made for the March Paperie Card kit.

When Tim Holtz debuted his Assemblage Clock I fell in love and snatched it up. Then, it just sat there. A case of must have, don’t know what to do. Until this kit!

I admit I was totally inspired by the gold rubons – one of which was “I love you to the moon & back.” Molly and I say that to each other every night, it had to used!

I printed one of my favourite pics of Molly when she was a teeny tiny and added that to the inside of the clock after I had painted everything with Silks Acrylic Glaze:

I punched some hearts out of patterned paper, painted them, added some more rubons:

And then put it all back together again!

I love how it turned out – holding onto that clock was well worth the wait!

show&tell

It’s Show & Tell time at Simple Scrapper again and the March members materials are fabulous!

My Story Starter this month uses an amazing sketch based on a LO that was originally designed by Melanie Ritchie:

there was a little girl

This was such a fun sketch to work with and I love that I got to scrapbook a great memory and story that my grandfather always told me – plus I used the rhyme he always said as a title for the page.

I added some wood veneer and coloured it with a Wink of Stella brush pen – the black is incredible!

there was a little girl cameraThe sketch template I  used for this next LO may be one of my faves ever – I can see using it over and over. Such great possibilities with flipping and twisting this one!

sleep tight

Isn’t that picture of Molly the cutest thing ever? Love her…

I added fun sequins to this one and love the shimmer of them:

sleep tight closeup

Head over to the Show&Tell and check out the other LO’s people are sharing. While you’re there, share one of your own – we all love to see everyone’s work each month!

All puzzled out…

Mixed media, puzzle pieces, Puzzle swap

A while back I posted a few puzzle pieces that I had altered for a swap. After those I completely lost track of time and just finished up all the rest this past weekend. They’re now in addressed envelopes waiting to be mailed. Hopefully, that will take me less time than the actual making of the pieces did but don’t hold your breath – I’m a slacker when it comes to mailing things!

First, the one that I said was a mess in the last post is completely redone (and forgive me for the terrible picture):

happyI’m not going to go through each piece, that would be too boring for you altogether, so here are a couple and you can find all the rest at my flickr account here.

On this one I love the colour:

and glitter!

This flower stamp is one of my faves:

be bold

And the gold Ferro molding paste is fabulous:

Go check out the rest and enjoy!
