Card Kit, Simple Scrapper, The Paperie

I have a double dose for you today – my November Simple Scrapper Sketches and some of my Paperie Card Kit LO’s!

Jennifer’s sketches this month were amazing and I made three LO’s with them, using the Card Kit as my paper base.

First is my Story Starter LO:

there was us

I love, love, love the colours in the kit and I was very excited to discover that the Dear Lizzie fabric frames matched perfectly! I know I normally only use the contents of the kit, but I simply had to add those frames in – I suggest you go buy them if you’re getting the kit!

I did lots of layers and some fussy cutting with this one, plus had some fun with the ribbon:

there was us - ribbon

One of the big bonuses in this month’s kit is the Wink of Stella pen – look at the shimmer!

there was us - wink of stella

My next LO was pretty simple – just a couple of pics from one of our many days on the beach this summer:

sunshine

I kept it fairly monochromatic with some punches of gold as an accent. I did have fun doodling with my Faber-Castell pen and adding little enamel dots:

sunshine - layers

Finally, the kit had some anchor and sailboat paper so I just had to pull out a picture of sailing on my dad’s boat:

at the helm

I added some stash stuff to this LO too, in the form of a Studio Calico wooden boat, an anchor, and some hearts. Plus, I layered lots of fun bits and bobs:

at the helm - embellies

The arrow paperclip and the heart ones from the first LO are also included in the kit – lots of fun goodies this month!

As you can see from above, we’ve changed the Simple Scrapper Blog Hop to a Community Show & Tell! Just click here to go check it out, see the team’s work, and add a link to your own!

If you want to see the rest of the Card Kit reveal, go the The Paperie blog for my work here and Wendy’s take on the kit here. Of course, you can pop in the store to see them all in person as well!

Whew – that was a lot to cover today! Now go grab a coffee and enjoy all the eye candy!

YLA2013 | September 2013

Mixed Media Layout, YLA2013

A couple of weeks ago we had another Yearlong Album class and made the September LO’s – and had some fun with Ranger Distress paint!

The first LO uses warm colours of paint and Distress Ink that matched perfectly with one of Molly’s dresses:

September - twirl

Layers and layers of colour and different mediums, plus some shimmery wood veneer and stickers for dimension:

September - twirl layers

The second LO has the same techniques, done in a slightly different way, and uses some cooler colours:

September - today

Love the look of water flicked over Distress Ink; it gives such great texture and interest:

September - today ink

And of course, I needed some fun embellies!

September - today layers

Once again, it was incredible to see what the class came up with as they used the techniques and made them fit with their own style. There were some amazing pages being turned out for sure!

Some ideas are starting to come together for next year’s class and I’m getting excited at the new direction. That being said, I’m also excited to bring back some of the older things from past classes that worked as well. The new Yearlong Album is going to be a fun mix!

Cats. Hmmmm…

Cats, Royal Newfoundland Constabulary

Let me tell you about my late night/early morning. You’re allowed to laugh, I don’t mind. I would do it if this was your story, after all.

So. 2am this morning my phone rang. Never a good thing right? It gets worse.

“Hi. This is Constable So-and-so (it was 2am people, forgive for not getting his name!) from the Royal Newfoundland Constabulary.”

Yes. 2am and a call from the cops. On Halloween. Trust me when I say that woke me up.

“Do you own a cat called Ella?”

Ella

Ella

Seriously. We discovered that nice Mr. Cop was just around the corner so he kindly put her in his car and brought her home. The things Darrell said as went down to the door are not suitable to write here, trust me.

We figure this is just training for a few years time when we have teenagers. If this is any indication, we’re in trouble. Please start praying for us now.

Bats and pumpkins and mess – oh my!

Crafts, Halloween

On Monday we made our last Halloween decorations – we are now officially walking into and through creepy crawlies as we go through the house!

The first was pretty straightforward – pumpkins!

pumpkins

They were easy and pretty much mess-free. I simply painted glue onto a paper plate, cut orange tissue into squares and told them to cover all the white. I then gave them three triangles, a mouth, and a green stem and they glued them on. That’s it!

The next craft was a little messier – we painted. My biggest tip when painting is this: go naked.

Now, to be honest, the kiddies weren’t exactly naked, they just took their shirts off to keep them reasonably clean. I have a very cute painting picture but I’ll save that for the parents only!

I told them we were going to paint bats (I already had eyes, fangs, and wings cut out of black paper) and they immediately piped up with the colours they wanted to use – no black mentioned! So we ended up with red, green, and blue:

bats

Cute, hey? After they painted and glued on eyes, I drew a mouth and they glued on fangs and added some bling to the eyes. Then they helped me staple on the wings.

green bat

My house (and I hope all of their houses) looks very festive now but I do have one problem – they’re already asking about Christmas!

Such cute feet…

Crafts, footprint ghosts, memento luxe ink

… shouldn’t be scary!

Yesterday was another art day here and it seems Halloween has its claws in me. We did stamped feet – one of the kiddies faves – and turned them into ghosts!

footprint ghosts

I used Memento Luxe ink in Wedding Dress and it stamped perfectly plus wiped off skin like a dream; a quick swipe with a baby wipe and the mess was gone. Genius!

Each child picked their own set of letter stickers and stuck on the eyes, mouth, and “boo!” alphas. I added the “halloween” once everything else was done.

To make this a keepsake, we framed them so they could take them home and keep them for next year (“That’s really, really far away!”) <— hahaha!

footprint ghosts - gabe

Aren’t they cute? Super easy, simpler than the ghosts from last week even, and an awesome tradition for each year. It’s an easy and devastating way to see how much they’ve grown! 🙂

ghost craft, Halloween

We had a bit of Halloween fun around here yesterday. Molly was home from school because of a PD Day for the teachers and I needed something fun and easy to do that would satisfy the age range I have around here during the day.

I went with ghosts.

Super simple and I had all the stuff on hand, or rather, I made it up based on what I had on hand!

DSC_9296

Styrofoam cups, black permanent marker, string, white tissue paper, glue stick, and a wooden skewer to poke holes.

First, we drew faces:

DSC_9304

Then I poked a hole in the top of each cup:

DSC_9305

I tied a knot in the string and poked it through the hole from the inside out (with some “help”):

DSC_9307

Glue stick around the inside edge:

DSC_9309

And the kiddies stuck on the strips of tissue:

ghosts

Aren’t they fun?

DSC_9277

The kiddies had a blast making them:

DSC_9300Next up…. pumpkins? Or footprint ghosts? Any suggestions?

Playtime!

Classes, Perfect Pearls

I have a brand new class debuting this weekend at The Paperie – Perfect Pearls Playtime!

perfect pearls - cover

I’ve had lots of people ask me what else they could do with Perfect Pearls so I designed a tag mini album with space left for pictures or technique practice.

perfect pearls - stamp off

We’ll be working on black and manila Ranger tags and using the holiday release of powders from Ranger – Celebration. Plus, everyone gets a Celebration kit to take home with them, as well as full instructions for each of the seven (yes, 7!) techniques we’ll be doing.

perfect pearls - flick

To make the day even better, the Paperie is following up the class with a crop night. So you can take the class and then stay and play some more until midnight! And since class doesn’t start until 2, you have the morning to do all those other weekend things that need doing.

perfect pearls - paint

Can’t make it to class? We can get you a kit and you can still go to the crop night anyway!

This album is specifically designed for people who own a bunch of powders and also for those who don’t even know what they are so don’t feel intimidated – come play with us!

Hope to see you Saturday!
