Card Kit, Mini Album, The Paperie

Sorry for the long absence – I was fighting a cold last week and then had yesterday off so the kiddos and I spent some fun time together – but now I’m back with more from the June/July Paperie card kit!

(Click on any pictures for a larger size)

wish

Because there was so much amazing 6×6 patterned paper, I thought that a mini album wouldn’t go astray! I used almost all Authentique but there is a sheet of Allison Kreft thrown in there too. I didn’t want anything too complicated and since there’s a super cute birthday stamp from Unity Stamp Co. in the kit, I used that as my inspiration:

wish - cover

Birthday’s are something I normally hate scrapbooking but I always love getting pictures of the cake so I thought a mini dedicated to Molly and Gabe’s birthday cakes would be fun!

wish - 2

I kept it super easy and really basic with just a cake pic, another small photo of them or a closeup of the cake, and the date. I also added their initial and age they were at the time. As an aside, all the alpha stickers I used for four LO titles and an entire mini came from the one sheet included in the kit!

wish - 4

I left room so I can do pages for each of them up to their 6th birthday. The nice thing is that if I want to continue on after that, this is easy peasy to duplicate and small enough not to take up any of my precious little storage space!

wish - 5

I’ll be back later this week with the last two LO’s I did, but if you want to see them in person, the Paperie will have them up in their new location a week from today – I can’t wait to have fun in the new space!

ssbloghop-2013

Another month, another Simple Scrapper blog hop and giveaway! We’re doing the giveaway a little differently this month so make sure you scroll to the bottom of this post and use the Rafflecopter link below to enter a giveaway for a one month trial membership at Simple Scrapper. There are three ways to enter and three winners will be selected. To be eligible, you must enter by 11:59pm CST on Wednesday, March 6.

I used one of the Story Starters this month – the theme is Adventures – to make a mini album of Pirate Day on my dad’s boat a couple of summers ago.

The Pirate says Arr

Super quick and easy to do when using a kit and one template!

The Pirate says Arr - page 1-2

I gave a peek of this album on my guest post over at Simple Scrapper last week and you can check out all the inside pages over at 2peasinabucket.

The Pirate says Arr - page 5-6

For the template sketch, I made a letter size, interactive LO of Miss M who actually wanted me to take her picture for once!

Adding the additional pictures behind the top one allowed me to keep them all at a large 4×6 size while still keeping the LO fairly simple and uncluttered. Plus, there’s loads of space for journaling too!

strike a pose - flap two

Again, you can see additional pictures in my gallery over at 2peas.

Make sure you check out what the other design team members have done – they have some amazing LO’s this month! The list is below if you have lost your way or want to start at the beginning. And don’t forget to enter to win the giveaway!

For these things, I am Grateful…

Blessed, Grateful, Mini Album, One Little Word, Simple Scrapper

casestrickland - front cover

I have never taken part in Ali Edwards’ One Little Word and had no intentions of doing so this year.

But then the word Blessed (and to a slightly lesser extent, Grateful) began following me around. Seriously, they just popped up everywhere! So I finally gave in and decided to see where One Little Word would lead me this year.

casestrickland - inside cover-page1

The reason I mention this now is that Simple Scrapper played a role in those words cropping up. First, I did a giveaway for the Home Blessings Class at Big Picture Classes and that came through Simple Scrapper. Second, Jennifer asked me to work on a new Gratitude mini album that debuted in the shop today.

See? Blessed and Grateful were definitely meant to be mine for 2013.  And that’s only two examples of how these words have infiltrated my life!

casestrickland - page 1 closeup

This mini album is going to be an ongoing project for me during 2013 and I’ll be sharing updates here and there as I add to it. It’s everything I’m grateful for and feel blessed to have from Signal Hill, to my kiddies, to teaching classes, and all the other things in between.

casestrickland - page 2-page 3

I’ve turned my book on its side since most of the pictures I take are landscape orientation. The problem is that many of the journaling cards are portrait so I’m having to be creative to make them work!

casestrickland - page 4-page 5

Check out the Flickr gallery to see more closeups of my pages, plus the albums some of the other DT members made. And then go get this kit – it’s a good one, and if you live outside the US, shipping is pretty reasonable, especially considering the price hike from USPS recently!

casestrickland - page 5 closeup

I love how easy and stressfree this album is – whenever I have a photo during the year of something I feel blessed to have in my life, I’ll simply tuck it into a pocket, add a precut journaling card and embellish if I want.

casestrickland - back coverI’d love to see what some of you make with this kit – whether you use it for One Little Word or to make a Gratitude Album, it’s bound to be a mini that really means something to you and aren’t those the projects we love to look through the most?

In other crafty news, I’m binding my Card Organizer this evening and will be back tomorrow with pics of it and the 4 cards we’ll be making on Saturday. Last time I checked, there was one spot left so hurry and call the Paperie if you want it! If you can’t wait until tomorrow to see what we’re doing, I’ve posted a couple of pics on Instagram and Twitter.

Well here it is, the last sneak peek into this weekend’s classes!

And this might be the class I’m most excited to teach – the tag mini album! I made a similar one in Orlando but amped it up and added a few more techniques especially for this class – I hope people are ready to get inky and messy!

I stuck with red, pink, orange, and yellow for mine, and added one of my favourite Dylusions sentiment stamps to the front:

Dylusions - cover

Along with the main manilla Jumbo #12 tags, we are also using kraft:

Dylusions - kraft page

and black:

Dylusions - black page

And just for fun, here’s some little sneaks of a couple more pages!

We’ll be stamping, with my favourite waterproof ink, Archival:

Dylusions - stamped page

And colouring with Ink Sprays:

Dylusions - misted and coloured page

Have you signed up for any (or all!) of the classes yet? You should, we’re going to have a blast! And, as a bonus, you get to go home with some great product, especially in this class! 😉

I’ll try to find time to tweet and instagram some pics over the weekend so if you’re too far away to attend or have to work all weekend (we’ll miss you Lori!) then check out my feeds to see some of the fun!

Tuesday Techniques and Tutorials

Echo Park, Mini Album, Washi Tape

Note: This is a super duper photo heavy post – you might want to grab a coffee before you start! 🙂

A while back I posted this mini album…

Let the fun begin…

…I had made from one sheet of patterned paper and washi tape. That was it. Oh, and I threw on a bit of unnecessary baker’s twine at the end.

I said it then and I’ll say write it again, this is the easiest and smallest kit you’ll ever pack for a trip or crop! A couple of people asked for detailed instructions so here they are!

You will need:

Supplies

A paper trimmer and/or scissors, a pen for journaling, one sheet of patterned paper, and coordinating washi tape – as much or as little as you like.

You could really use any patterned paper you want but I love the sheets full of cut apart elements – they just seem to cry out to be made into minis! This time around, I used a sheet from Echo Park‘s mini line, Toy Box. The nice thing about the “Jump” sheet is that it has great embellishment elements as well.

First of all, just cut everything apart and trim out any elements you need – for example, I cut apart the words and tickets, and trimmed the scallop border.

Next, lay out your pieces in order from front cover all the way to the back, then group them into pairs, with the covers being a pair and adjacent interior pages pairing up.

Next, use washi tape to adhere each set of interior pages to each other, but only use washi tape on one side.

Now, fold the pairs in half, as they’ll appear in the book, and adhere adjacent pairs together. Again, only use washi on one side. Below you will see the “play all day” pair and the “I love you” pair:

Finally, add a strip of washi tape to the front cover, on the exterior left. Add a strip to the back cover on the exterior right.

Now, sandwich your stack of interior pages between the covers and press the two pieces of washi tape together, forming a flap.

Use one more strip of washi to wrap around the whole spine, pressing down the flap you created a moment ago.

That’s it, you’re done!

I did stick in some of the borders but left the words to add once I put in my photos. Obviously, at this point you could make it much fancier and add more details and embellishments but essentially, it’s finished!

I hope you try this out and tell me about it in the comments – I’d love to see your mini!

The Simplest Mini Album Ever

16 Thursday Aug 2012

American Crafts, Dear Lizzy, Mini Album, Neapolitan, Washi Tape

I needed a super quick and easy mini a while back and this sheet a paper was in a Paperie kit I had open in front of me. I don’t know about you, but to me it looked like a mini book kit waiting to happen!

Let the fun begin…

I literally printed my 12 on Twelve pics from June, pulled out my washi tape and a black pen and that was it. At the very end I added some baker’s twine but there were no other embellishments or adhesive. In other words, if you want an on-the-road kit for a vacation project, this is what you’ve been waiting for! 🙂

I cut all the elements from the patterned paper apart and trimmed out my pictures.

I then took the two largest patterned pieces, laid them side by side and adhered washi tape to the seam on the outside.

After that I just washi taped in the other pieces, paper and pictures, as needed.

There is very little journalling as the pictures were simply an overview of one day so I felt they only needed quick captions.

There are also no embellishments because I felt the assortment of washi tape and the interest of different sized papers added enough.

Also, I made some extra little flaps and tags with the smaller pieces of patterned paper to add to it all!

Obviously, you can use any paper for something like this, and you can add many more embellishments, journalling, extras, etc. but this is a great starting point for those of you always asking, “What do I take with me as a small kit on the go?” It doesn’t get any smaller than this, my friends!

I may go back and add some stickles here and there (I have just a small obsession with Rock Candy!) just to bling it up a little but…. we’ll see!

I hope you try out a quick mini and leave me a comment so I can see what you make. Or, if you want more detailed instructions, let me know, I can always do a tutorial for you!

Back tomorrow with some exciting news….. times 2! 😉

12 on Fourteen & a mini…

(note: This is a long one, with lots of pics – you might want a coffee, or wine, or…. whatever, to get you through!)

So…. You all know how much I love the 12 on Twelve photo taking adventure each month, right? I love that little collage of one ordinary day in pictures – no journaling, just snapshots of our life.

And this month I forgot all about it. Sucks. I was bummed. And then that little person in my head went, “knock, knock, knock. Hey dummy! You can take 12 pictures any old day!” Ummm, yeah. Duh!

So today is the day! Anyone want to join in? There’s still lots of time! And my camera battery is dead so I’m crossing my fingers and hoping against hope that absolutely nothing happens for half an hour! 🙂

I’ll have today’s twelve ready for Wednesday.

The other thing that occurred to me was that I haven’t shared any retreat projects with you yet – sorry!

My Week in the Life album is almost done, just a couple of papers left to toss in there and then I’ll photograph and share it. Still love that project and I’m so happy I stuck with the album and finished it (almost!).

The thing is, when that album was done, I had a handful of pics not in there. Either they were cute, but didn’t really tell a story, or I had better ones to tell the story of the day, so they got cut. But, as I said, there were some cute pics – what to do, what to do?

I made G a mini album with the extras and some more of the fabulous Clever Handmade Embroidery Board!
