I love this time of month! All the Creative Team members for Simple Scrapper show off their work, the Team Gallery goes live, the membership magazine & templates are out, and, best of all, you can show off all your work too!

I had a lot of fun with the Story Starter prompts for September:

hey old friends

I love that pic of my friends and I!

This LO was a real collaboration – the template and story starter are from Simple Scrapper while the back ground techniques are from a class I took from my friend Cathie. Love all the layers:

hey old friends layers

And look at that awesome shine! I was also really happy with the way the title work came out, with those great India Ink splats around it:

hey old friends layers shimmer and title

The template LO is an idea I’ve had for a while but haven’t been able to get on paper until now:

sunshine or storm cloud

Don’t you just love Molly’s storm cloud face? We see a little too much of that lately! 🙂

I added a bunch of Twinkling H2O’s paint to the wood veneer to get some shimmer on them:

sunshine or storm cloud sun

And then I added two coats of glossy accents to the raindrops – they look fabulous in real life!

sunshine or storm cloud rain

Make sure you check out some of the other work from this month, either at the CT’s blogs or at the Team Gallery. Then, go leave a link for your own work so we can take look – don’t forget to leave some love for everyone along the way too!

I’m busy these days prepping a new class but I’ll be back later this week with some eye candy from classes I’ve recently taught – there’s been lots of good creating happening, my friends, I hope you’re all getting to do the same!

I’m sorry.

I’ve really been the biggest kind of slacker around here, especially since I promised this post weeks ago! But you’ll all forgive me, right? 🙂

For the June LO we did a patterned paper background, a rarity for me, and added all sorts of bits and pieces from previous classes:

06 - june

Some cork hearts and gold stars right on the pics:

june heart and stars

Chipboard hearts and the always present arrows on the edges of the pages:

june heart and arrows

And we layered flair with October Afternoon label stickers – I love how they fit right together!

june badge and sticker

For fun, we played with Black India Ink – the intensity of it when spattered is the best! Also the best? How one spot landed right where I needed a dot for my “j” – score!

june embellies

The next class is coming up next week and I’m excited for this one; we have fabulous stickers and a great divided page protector to play with!

How is it time for another Show & Tell already? This summer is flying by way too fast!

My template LO this month also doubled as a LO I taught for a Distress Renewed class:

beautiful self

I love the texture, the colours, and the template I used! Check out this post for more details on that one.

My Story Starter LO was completely different but I love that *I* was able to get three, yes three, pictures on one LO! Big deal, my friends, you know I’m a one pic LO type of girl!

signal hill hikeI love the look of having the pics attached with washi tape, almost as if they were stuck on a bulletin board of some kind:

signal hill hike washi

And I had fun with different alphas, including a Studio Calico vellum one and a Prima fabric set:

signal hill hike alphas

Now, go check out what the rest of the Creative Team has designed this month and make sure you add your own name to the link up. We love seeing what everyone has created recently! And remember, it can be anything you’ve made, Simple Scrapper template or not!

Back soon with the most recent Yearlong Album LO’s – I introduced everyone to the deep black joy of India Ink!

Another month, another Show & Tell at Simple Scrapper! I love this time of month and seeing what the other Creative Team members create! Even better, I really love to see what work other people link up in the Show & Tell – I’m blown away by the talent and creativity every time!

Here’s what you’re getting from me this month.

My story starter LO uses an old template from the February 2012 Members library:

canada day

I have to say, that library of sketches for members is fabulous, varied, and oh so easy to use! Being able to search for a sketch based on size, number, or orientation of my pictures? Awesome.

I had fun with my vintage typewriter this month and did the journaling for both LO’s with it:

canada day journalingSome fun washi and cork stickers in the corners finished this one off:

canada day embellies

My template LO used some fun pics I took of the kids and I while we hiked Signal Hill one day:

selfies

I used wood veneer on this one, coloured with my red Wink of Stella pen – those go over wood veneer like butter!

selfies hearts

Make sure to head over and see the Show & Tell and add your own link so I can check it out!

Both LO’s this month were made with The Paperie’s June Page kit which I love, love, love! Last I saw they had a couple left so go grab one or contact them – they can ship! 🙂

I have another post today since it’s Canada Day here and Memorial Day for Newfoundland so don’t miss that either!

Distress Stain, Yearlong Album, YLA2014

For the April Yearlong Album class I took things a little more mixed media:

april

I love how the resist and texture turned out with the Distress Stains we used for colour:

april texture

I have to admit, resist techniques are my favourite! Give me a new resist medium, or a new way of combining resist ideas and I’m a happy little camper! 🙂

I also stick to some basics for me and one of those is this trick:

april taps

A few taps of mist or paint perpendicular to the photos to draw your eye across. If you go back through my LO’s you’ll see this trick quite a bit. I also love how it adds a bit of colour without overwhelming your nice open white space.

Things are crazy here, as always, and amping up as the weather turns (slightly) warmer. More outdoors time and less computer time so as usual, summer will be slower on the blog than usual. Of course, it’s been slow here lately anyway so you probably won’t notice a difference – oops!

One reason for the craziness is some classes I’m prepping for – and I’m excited about this one:

sneak peekA kid’s summer mini album, open to ages 10+. We’ll be playing with heat embossing, dry embossing, alcohol inks, making our own stencils, and more! Details will be added here when available but the date will be July 6. Hopefully, I’ll see some of your kiddies there!

S.

P.S. Happy Friday the thirteenth! And its a full moon to boot – let’s bring on the crazy!

Let’s Hear it for the Boys!

boys, cards, Scrapbook Layout

I taught a super fun class a week or so ago, one that I loved designing as it was a little out of my wheelhouse – it was all about boys!

If you’re a scrapper or cardmaker I know that you know what I’m talking about – boy stuff is hard! We love our embellishments and flowers and hearts and glitter and… Yeah, not so masculine!

So I decided to have a class that centered all around boy LO’s and cards. Here’s what we made!

A bunch of arrows and a bright and colourful grounding line made of banners:

urock

The arrows are attached to the photo which is mounted on an envelope to add more space for extra pictures or journaling:

urock embellies

The second LO has a fun line of squares:

jump 4 joy

And we kept the embellies simple with mist, enamel dots, and skinny striped washi tape:

jump 4 joy embellies

The cards had a big focus on the alpha stickers:

happy birthday

and arrows:

your own way

I’m starting to think towards to second class in this mini series: Let’s Hear it for the Girls! I have some awesome paper pulled and can’t wait to start getting glittery! 🙂

Classes, Dylusions Ink Spray, Mixed Media Layout, The Paperie

A while back I blogged about a new class series I was teaching called Distress Renewed. This is going to be bimonthly and a few weeks ago we had our second class. This one was all about Dylusions Ink Spray – one of my most fave products!

hangin out

Our first LO was all about using Dylusions to make a watercolour background with resist, complete with misted ghosting and bleach out clouds:

The second layout was showing the blendability and fun properties of the sprays:

Love how water ghosting works on these!

colourful life water ghostingI also had fun with my new-to-me vintage typewriter and the alpha stickers included in the class for the title work on this one:

Finally, we made card fronts using a bunch of techniques:

And that’s it – fun times getting messy and inky! Next class will be all about Distress Paints and I can’t wait to play!

Another month, another Yearlong Album class. Another sketch. Another day of fun teaching times with friends.

Here’s what we made last weekend:

marchI had lots of fun layering bits and bobs and stars and stuff:

march layersAnd we all had a great time making an inky, misty background using the awesome Quatrefoil stencil from Ronda Palazzari for The Crafter’s Workshop:

P.S. I know I’m missing an “H” from my title – I’m waiting on a new pack of alpha stickers and then I’ll add it in!

October Afternoon, Ranger, Studio Calico Wanderlust, The Crafter's Workshop, YLA2014

This past weekend I taught the second Yearlong Album class for 2014. More fun times with sketches and I broke out the new Tim Holtz Distress Marker Spritzer too!

Everyone was given a pack of new October Afternoon chipboard stars and hearts for this month’s class and I’m totally in love with them:

february hearts and sequinsAren’t they great?

We layered up some of the fabulous Wanderlust papers, along with some Simple Stories diecuts (stamped with my fave roller stamp):

february layersAnd had fun playing with the aforementioned marker spritzer and my favourite The Crafter’s Workshop stencils to ground our photos. It all came together in a great double LO:

february

As always, people went their own way – used different papers, added extra photos, changed up the LO to suit them. I think that’s my favourite part of this class, everyone takes what I do and then bends it do it works for them – awesome!

I’m a busy bee again at the moment, trying to get some LO’s and canvases done for May classes so keep and eye on my Instagram and Twitter feeds for peeks of all that!

I’m planning to post some Art Journal pages tomorrow that I started in Cathie’s class last week – it was another excellent one and I love what I did! Check back tomorrow and hopefully I’ll have that ready for you.
