I was so mad….

Four years ago today I was mad at my husband.

Really mad.

All my friends were at a fun scrapbooking retreat and I wasn’t there. Darrell put his foot down and said, “Absolutely not,” in no uncertain terms. To be fair, I was less than two weeks away from my due date, aka baby could come any time, and, in our labor and delivery experience, it was a pretty fast process. He didn’t want to chance me being an hour away from the hospital.

But I was still mad.

And told him in no uncertain terms that if said baby did not make an appearance during the retreat weekend he was in big trouble. Big.

And then, at 1:30 Sunday morning, 10 days before I was due, I said, “I think we should go to the hospital.”

We packed up, got my Dad to come stay with Molly, headed in to the case room, and 10 minutes after we arrived, so did Gabe, at 2:31 am. My dad didn’t even get a chance to go to sleep when we called to say, “He’s here!”

gabe - birth day

And he really was here, all  6 lbs. 13 ozs. of blond boy. I wasn’t expecting the blond (Molly was black) and I wasn’t expecting the boy (I was convinced I was having a girl).

gabe - baby

But I wouldn’t trade this sweet face for anything.

gabe - 4th birthday

Happy 4th birthday, my baby. We love you all the way to the moon and back, to infinity and beyond, forever and ever, all the way to the stars.

Mama / S.

12 on Twelve

Still using the Nifty Fifty lens way too much, but I don’t care – it’s my fave! And as for this 12 on Twelve project – over a year in and I’m still loving it.

12on12april

1. Molly giving daddy his regular hug goodbye.

2. Gabe wanting to get in on the morning hugging action.

3. My standard monthly selfie in the porch mirror.

4. Molly playing with her giant sticker book making a  princess scene – with a helper!

5. Reading a story while waiting for swimming.

6. I got to go watch this week – and he spent more time watching me than paying attention!

7. All wrapped up after his swim.

8. Field trip! At Michael’s with the boys.

9. Best fun ever – water fountains!

10. All worn out  – sleeping in the car on the way home.

11. Friends over to play so making funny faces on the sofa is a must!

12. Anti-bullying day – Molly showing off her badge in her pink gear.

Well, Hello There…

Family, Midway, October Afternoon

A while back I took part in another tag LO – love those! – and since I was number 1 on a long list of people, I kind of forgot about posting it here once the tag part was done.

This actually turned out to be one of my fave LO’s ever. The picture cracks me up, the kit from The Paperie is my favourite one from them since they started, and the way it all came together worked better than I envisioned. A rare, rare occurrence!

The picture of Gabe was taken at the cabin last year and as soon as I saw the expression on his face all I could think of was my grandfather, Edgar Case – he had the same look many times! The thing is, Pop had glasses and a moustache and well, Gabe is only 3, the moustache is not something happening on his face right now!

Enter the kit. It had some October Afternoon Midway paper, including strips that had glasses with moustaches. And by some fluke of the universe, they were the right size for the picture that had been printed for months. It was just all meant to be!

well hello there,,,How seriously funny are those glasses?!?! Can you even believe how perfect they are?

well hello there - glasses

I added a bunch of banners and some flair at the top:

well hello there - embellishment clusterAnd cut out one of the “LOVE” words on the bottom to make it stand out more:

well hello there - love closeupWhen I finished this one, I showed my dad and the first thing he said was, “You really need to show this to my siblings.” Yes, he actually said siblings, it’s just his way! But really, it’s uncanny how much Gabe looks like his great-grandfather here – I wish they could have met.

Back tomorrow with an awesome blog hop full of projects to get you in the spring mood – I know I’m ready for a warmer season!

12 on Twelve, Nikkor, Nikon

I decided to take out my neglected 50mm lens yesterday and use it for all my pics – I had forgotten how much I love that lens! It’s actually the reason I have a decent camera. I came home from a scrapping retreat and told D that I wanted to take pics that were sharp but blurry. Luckily, he actually knew what I meant and handed over his old Nikon with this lens. Now that I’ve put it back on the camera, it may be a while before I take it off again!

12on12march1. My regular selfie.

2. Miss M actually wanting her pic taken at breakfast.

3. Reading on the Story Sofa.

4. Playing in the snow (who else wants to eat up that sweet face?)

5. Being silly in the snow.

6. Sliding in Tricia’s yard – she has the best hill and the best slide!

7. Reading while waiting for her ride to school.

8. “Take a picture of this face, Mama!” (not so sweet this time but still chewable)

9. Everyone left early so Mr. G and I walked to pick Miss M up at school.

10. “Mama, this is a fabulous surprise!”

11. He knows the letters to his name now and types them into everything (the writing thing however, no interest!)

12. Kitting for my class this weekend during Kelly Purkey’s visit!

I actually had too many pictures this time around – that lens is awesome! – so I think there will be some LO’s in my future!

Cats, shower curtain, superhero, superpowers

On a daily basis I hear, “Mama! How did you do that?!?!”

And I always answer, “Superpowers. I have superpowers.”

Today, I finally have the shirt to prove it:

Sara aka Supergirl

Superpower people of the world, unite!

On another note, we finally finished our bathroom reno and I bought a cheap shower curtain to hang until I could find something I actually liked. Apparently, the cats really, really hate it:

Garbage

City of Mount Pearl, garbage collection

Yes, today’s post is about garbage.

Our garbage man, to be exact.

Now, I’m sure he has a name, and a different official title than “Garbage Man” but in my house, to my kiddies, that’s what he’s called.

Every Friday morning they all line off in the front window, just waiting for him to come by, and every Friday he stops and waves. They love him. And when someone else does his route occasionally, they know.

A while back the city gave all of us fancy new garbage cans that be picked up by the trucks and dumped in. This has made Friday mornings even more exciting – it’s a robot truck!

Well, last Friday, I hear the usual commotion about the truck and the cans and wow, look at that. And then they all went crazy.

“Mama, mama! Sara, Sara! He’s coming to our door!”

What? Why would he be coming to our door?

Well, to give us presents of course! Yes, presents.

He gave each of the four kiddies who watch him every Friday a little tiny garbage can.

garbage cans - kidsCan you tell how much they love them?

It even has wheels that turn and a lid that opens. Naturally, that only makes them even cooler to the kids. “Mama!” said in a hushed and awed voice, “It’s just like a real live garbage can!”

So, to the City of Mount Pearl and especially to our very own Garbage Man – thank you. You are officially one of the kiddies favourite people ever.

G and his funny sayings...

G: Can we go to Tricia’s house for a little while?

Me: No, my baby, Tricia is sick.

G: What’s wrong with her?

Me: Oh, she has a really bad throat and her ears hurt.

G: We should bring Tricia an orange.

Me: Why should we bring her an orange?

G: Because oranges always help when people are sick.

G - Sweet boy

My boy is the sweetest. 🙂
