Well, I ended up with a nasty head cold last week and so this didn’t get posted on Friday as planned – sorry!

It’s all here now though, so be prepared for a bunch of photos (you may want coffee. Or tea. Or something decaffeinated. Go ahead, I’ll wait!)

sunshine

I made this album to highlight a few of my favourite summer pics. I put in 6 tabs, one each of June, July, and August for Molly and Gabe, and then added the photos of them that I loved from each month.

The album is a bit sturdier than usual – I used super heavy chipboard for the covers and spine and a Tim Holtz small ring binder to hold the pages. I decorated the cover with some of the Farmhouse Paper Company stickers and used the included stamp set with gold embossing (my favourite thing lately):

sunshine - embossing

And hung a Tim Holtz Idea-ology Collage Key from the spine:

sunshine - spine

For the first page I cut down one of the envelopes and misted it. I then decorated it with one of the Farmhouse flowers (sidenote: not a flower lover here but these ones are gorgeous!) and a bit mist. It holds bits and pieces from the summer.

sunshine - envelope

The main pages are cut down and then folded up to make pockets where I put additional photos. The back of each pocket has a full size picture:

sunshine - august gabe

And the mist I used on the envelope and pocket pages is, of course, shimmery gold to match the embossing on the cover!

sunshine - gold mist

Each of the small photos is mounted on a 7 Gypsies library card (not included in the kit but the Paperie carries them, fabulous for PL!). The date is written on the tab and there’s a small line about the photo on the back:

sunshine - small photos

That’s it! You made it to the end – whew! If you live locally and want to see the full album, check it out at The Paperie, along with the rest of my LO’s and Wendy’s cards.

Come back tomorrow, my post is ready to go with the October Simple Scrapper templates and a bunch of the SS girls are joining in too!

Paperie Card Kit | September: Part 2 (landscape LO’s)

8.5x11, Card Kit, landscape layout, The Paperie

I’m back with the landscape LO’s I did with the kit this month. I actually have two 8.5×11’s and one 6×8.

The first one has a fun element of the title stamped and heat embossed on the photo itself:

possibilities - title

I love the shine of the gold embossing powder!

I also layered a bunch of cloud stickers and a hot air balloon to make an embellishment cluster at the top:

possibilities - layers

I used one of the random looking stamps and some brown ink to add subtle texture to those elements, then stamped the date in black.

It’s a perfect title and soft look for this pic of Molly:

possibilities

The second LO is completely different than the other four I made – it’s amazing how you can really change up the look of a kit with some different ink or mist.

I used Clear Tar Gel through a stencil, then Dylusions Ink Spray to get the resist:

vw van - resist

And I angled everything for an interesting look. The picture is of my brother and I sleeping on what appears to be a couch in a tin can but is really the backseat of our VW Van, before my father made it into a rockin’ campervan. 🙂

vw van

Finally, I made an unusual size, a 6×8. This could be mounted on an 8.5×11 sheet of paper but I’m going to cut an 8×8 page protector down and slide it in that as it is.

dina

The main photo is on an envelope that flips open:

dina - flip open

to reveal 8 more pictures! I love the pics that were taken at the Meet and Greet The Paperie had for Dina Wakley and really wanted to showcase them all – this works for me!

A little hidden journaling in the envelope, accented with another great stamp from the included set:

dina - journaling

And some stamped circles, Dina style, with wonky, hand cut circles of patterned paper inside:

dina - circles

I hope you liked these and enjoyed the overabundance of photos – I’ll be back soon with the mini album I made!

Paperie Card Kit | September: Part 1 (portrait LO’s)

8.5x11, Card Kit, portrait layouts, The Paperie

Today I’m sharing the two portrait LO’s I did with the September card kit. True to form, I did 4 – 8.5×11 LO’s and a mini album, plus a bonus 6×8 LO that I’ll share later (it has 9 photos on it!).

This was the first LO I made with the kit:

traveling lion

I love this pic of Gabe – everywhere we go, he wants Lion to tag along by riding on his backpack. It’s definitely a shot in time of Gabe and what he likes!

The kit is full of vintage looking Farmhouse Paper Company papers and they have the best bits and pieces for embellishing – I couldn’t resist using the balloon and postcard to reinforce the travel theme. Plus, I love a little cluster of goodies!

traveling lion - cluster

The second LO showcases a new and exciting skill Molly learned this summer – blowing bubbles!

bubbles

She was so proud of herself and insisted I take a picture…

every. time! It really was a big deal. 🙂

As per usual, I added hidden journaling:

bubbles - journaling

And I created a focal area by smearing molding paste through a stencil down the centre of the page, then layering the title over that:

bubbles - title

I love these papers and discovered the best way to add pictures was by editing the colour on my photos. The papers are such muted colours that the photos were clashing with the papers – adding a slight sepia tone made all the difference and now they look like they belong with the papers.

There may be one or two kits left at the Paperie and trust me, between the exclusive Farmhouse product and the awesome stamp set, this is one to pick up!

Card Kit, Mini Album, The Paperie

Here’s the final piece from my July Card kit – in September! 🙂

I used the Simple Stories 6×6 paper and cut it in half, then folded to make a tiny 3×3 album.

Good Stuff

Good Stuff

I love the stamp set that was included in the kit and that camera was perfect for a focal point on my front cover. I also used the speech balloon stamp throughout the whole book.

make your mark

make your mark

My Donna Downey for Unity Stamp Co. stamps were the perfect size to fit in them and they were also perfect as quotes in a book for my daughter.

paint your dreams

paint your dreams

I kept this super, super simple because I really wanted the sentiments to stand out.

good stuff - know who you are

know who you are

There were also a couple of great papers that said everything I needed to say with almost no other work.

be.

be.

I also believe that no album is complete unless you put something on the back cover so I used the same stamp set to put a little camera on there.

good stuff - back cover

If you want to see the whole album, it’s at the Paperie so you can fondle with your eyes, and hands, or you can check out my Flickr gallery for all the pages.

The new card kit is debuting on the Paperie blog Friday, so be sure to check that out – I know Wendy made some fabulous cards, as always!

Card Kit, Mixed Media Layout, The Paperie

Sorry for the delay in posting the remainder of my card kit LO’s but we’ve been having warm and sunny weather – as I mentioned before, I’m taking full advantage of the few short weeks we get!

Today I’m showing you one of the two portrait orientation LO’s I made with the kit. I’ll be back later with the other (and a quick step by step on how it came together), and the mini album. On Tuesday I’m going to be posting my Simple Scrapper DT LO’s for August – one of those uses the scraps I had left in the kit. Between my work and Wendy’s, you’re getting a ton of inspiration for this month’s kit; I hope you were lucky enough to snag one!

I did a gel transfer technique to get a circle of arrows on the background (thanks Cathie!) and then messy stitched around it with red metallic thread:

smile - stitching

I used one of my very favourite punches to make tags across the top of the page:

smile - punches

For the title, I stamped a speech balloon, cut a strip from patterned paper, and used a Jillibean Soup label, all layered up on the photo:

smile - labels

I love the colours (the Simple Stories paper pad in the kit is fabulous!) and how this one turned out – it was so much fun to make!

smile

A little birdie told me there were one or two kits left at The Paperie so if you don’t have one yet, go get it – the stamp set alone makes this one a must-have!

I hope you’re all enjoying your summer as much as I am and getting some great pics – I have lots of beach and sand photos to scrap soon!

Paperie Card Kit | July: Part 1

Card Kit, The Paperie

Last month’s Card Kit at the Paperie was so popular that Wendy has decided to do them monthly! But they are going  super fast so make sure you call and get your reserved or better yet, pop by the new store and pick one up.

Wendy did some awesome cards this month and today I’m going to show you the two landscape LO’s I made with the supplies.

Dance Machine is super simple – I really wanted the focus to be on the photos of Gabe posing and dancing in the driveway. In order to really bring the pictures to the forefront, I painted gesso over the area they would be, making a focal point:

dance machine

I doodled around the edges with my Pitt Pens, of course, and brought more attention to the title of letter stickers by drawing sketchy lines around them as well:

dance machine - title

There is a fabulous pack of wooden and chipboard buttons in the kit and I think I used them all! The bright colours of these worked with the pics and the yellowy-orange one is one point of an embellishment triangle around the photos:

dance machine - buttons

The second LO features Gabe’s lions on washing day. He specifically requested they be hung by their hands so they could see what was happening in the yard while they dried!

say cheese

I used several of the stamps from the included set (it’s awesome!) on the Simple Stories patterned paper from the kit and cut them out to use as embellishments around the picture, along with some of the chipboard buttons:

say cheese - layersThe journaling is hidden under another stamped tag:

say cheese - journaling

and I cut pieces out of some patterned paper to make a cluster at the top corner:

say cheese - arrowsThe edges seemed boring to me so I dampened them and then rolled to get some extra dimension and interest on the page.

Hope you liked these, I’ll be back soon with the portrait LO’s I did with the kit! Also, check out The Paperie and/or their blog to see all my projects this month, plus Wendy’s cards (here’s a peek!), and to get your own kit – I’d love to see what you make with it!

Dina Wakley, The Paperie

We’re all very excited to be doing a entire weekend of classes with Dina and, in anticipation, The Paperie has been doing a weekly countdown of sorts.

Each Friday a new blog post is going up focusing on inspiration via Dina’s work, or featuring some of her favourite products. Cathie has been doing some fabulous posts and I had one go live today.

Go check it out here!

Paperie Card Kit | June: Part 3

Card Kit, Design Team, Mixed Media Layout, Scrapbook Layout, The Paperie

I have two LO’s left to share with you from the card kit, but I’ll only be posting one today. I have a couple of guest posts happening over on The Paperie blog through July and I’m holding onto one LO for those posts. I’ll let you know when to go check it out!

The card kit had a great sheet of pink cardstock in it that would make a fabulous card base but I couldn’t make it work for the picture  I wanted to use, though I did want the pink. So I altered it to suit – in my mind, being able to change product to suit you is the number one best thing about mixed media!

I used matte multimedium to adhere some Ranger Tissue Wrap onto the cardstock. Over that I painted some layers of white gesso. Although gesso is normally used as a base and primer, one of my favourite ways to use it is to tone down colours and patterns.

I left some areas brighter, with less gesso, than others on purpose, like the title area:

i'll always be your baby - title

I really wanted to focus to be the title and photo, so I grounded my pic with layered strips of Allison Kreft paper and some washi tape, with a bit of twine tied around the photo itself. I finished that section with a brad and a punched border, all to draw your eye into that area:

i'll always be your baby - layers & punch

And overall, it’s pretty subtle, with just the right hint of pink for my girl and I:

i'll always be your baby

This LO was about a conversation Molly and I had approximately three weeks before Gabe was born – see how I can’t get the bottom button of my coat fastened? – and she was only 20 months old. It was pretty easy to get her to promise to “always be my baby!”

Paperie Card Kit | June: Part 2

Card Kit, Mini Album, The Paperie

Sorry for the long absence – I was fighting a cold last week and then had yesterday off so the kiddos and I spent some fun time together – but now I’m back with more from the June/July Paperie card kit!

(Click on any pictures for a larger size)

wish

Because there was so much amazing 6×6 patterned paper, I thought that a mini album wouldn’t go astray! I used almost all Authentique but there is a sheet of Allison Kreft thrown in there too. I didn’t want anything too complicated and since there’s a super cute birthday stamp from Unity Stamp Co. in the kit, I used that as my inspiration:

wish - cover

Birthday’s are something I normally hate scrapbooking but I always love getting pictures of the cake so I thought a mini dedicated to Molly and Gabe’s birthday cakes would be fun!

wish - 2

I kept it super easy and really basic with just a cake pic, another small photo of them or a closeup of the cake, and the date. I also added their initial and age they were at the time. As an aside, all the alpha stickers I used for four LO titles and an entire mini came from the one sheet included in the kit!

wish - 4

I left room so I can do pages for each of them up to their 6th birthday. The nice thing is that if I want to continue on after that, this is easy peasy to duplicate and small enough not to take up any of my precious little storage space!

wish - 5

I’ll be back later this week with the last two LO’s I did, but if you want to see them in person, the Paperie will have them up in their new location a week from today – I can’t wait to have fun in the new space!

Paperie Card Kit | June: Part 1

Card Kit, Scrapbook Layout, The Paperie

Have you seen the news? I’m designing for The Paperie Card Kit and I’m loving it! Wendy does amazing cards so I’m using the kit  to show how it can be used in other ways, like to do LO’s.

Since I love doing 8.5×11 LO’s, this kit was great fun to work on – plus the colours and papers were amazing, a great mix of Authentique and Allison Kreft. There was so much product in the kit that I was able to do 4 LO’s and a mini album with a bunch of supplies left over to use on other pieces.

Rather than overload you with images, I’m going to just show a couple of LO’s now and I’ll post the others in the next day or so.

These first two LO’s have pictures of Molly from way back when she was just a wee little one – two of my all-time faves of her.

Almost everything I used was from the kit, the only exceptions being a Crafter’s Workshop Stencil, Weathered Wood Distress Ink, and a bit of Custard Mister Huey’s Spray.

sugar & spice

I inked over the stencil to create a background for my photo, then layered lots of the patterned paper for a burst of colour:

sugar & spice - layers & stencil

I finished up with some spray droplets, washi tape, and a brad near the top:

sugar & spice - washi & brad

The second LO is Molly in a second-hand frog costume that she literally wore everywhere for months. It was her coat until she just couldn’t squeeze herself in any more!

froggie

The title was something she said as she was jumping in the puddles – I’m terrible at titles so this is a super easy way to get around that struggle!

Once again, I added very little to the kit – another stencil, Clay Mister Huey’s, and a border punch that mimicked the froggie spots. I lightly misted through the stencil to create some interest and a background and punched the circles to draw the eye down through the LO:

froggie - mist & punch

I punched half circle in the photo to nestle the “hi” button in and then added a couple more from the same pack. I also popped up the picture for some more dimension on the page:

froggie - buttons

As a side note, I try to upload everything to my Flickr account so if you ever want to see everything together, that’s the place to go. It’s also reasonably well-organized into sets too!

Back soon with another couple of LO’s – this is a limited kit so call The Paperie ASAP if you want one. They only do the card kit every other month and it’s well worth getting!
