Gel Medium Resist, Ranger Distress Paint, Simple Scrapper

A few days ago I showed you how I had an idea for these pages, went through an epic failure, and then found redemption on better and bigger paper.

Today, you get the final product!

The rainbow page is my favourite – I love the colours and the pictures so much:

May - laugh out loud

I first sponged glossy gel medium through a stencil, then added puddles of Distress Paint to the edge. I misted until I ran out of water (that’s only a slight exaggeration!) and let the colours run down the page. The texture is from rolling paper towels over to blot up the excess water. How cool is that?!?!

june - laugh out loud texture

This second page is based on a Simple Scrapper template from the July 2013 Premium Member templates:

May - best friend

Once again you start with glossy gel medium through a stencil, then add puddles of paint to the middle of the page. Mist with water and tip the paper to allow the paint to blend and then run in different directions.

The resist is fabulous and has a great shine in real life:

june - best friend resist

I used some Heidi Swapp fabric that I died with the paint and some new Studio Calico wood veneer to add dimension and layers to the top:

june - best friend top layers

So there you have it – a class LO all the way from idea to final product, with a mini tutorial to boot! Hope you enjoyed, I’ll be back later this week with more ICAD’s and the final LO’s from the June/July Paperie Card Kit.

Blog Hop, Giveaway, Simple Scrapper

ssbloghop-2013The Simple Scrapper Team is back again with a brand new blog hop and chance to win! Use the Rafflecopter widget below to enter a giveaway for a one month trial membership at Simple Scrapper. There are three ways to enter and three winners will be selected. To be eligible, you must enter by 11:59pm CDT on Wednesday, June 5.

But first, welcome! You should have come from Van‘s blog if you’re following along.

NOTE: Suzette, if you’re reading this, STOP NOW! You’ll ruin your birthday present if you keep going! 🙂

Sorry all, had to warn off my best and oldest friend – hopefully she’ll take the hint and go away!

This month had some amazing templates to choose from and it was hard to pick one to work with – I wanted to try them all! I finally chose letter#1 and stretched it into a 12×12:flyI used the newest Paperie club kit along with some Studio Calico PL kit pieces and stamps. I’m still loving the punched borders!

fly - punching & embelliesSome shimmery modeling creme behind the photo to mimic the border punch:

fly - stencilled doily

And great letter stickers for the title finished it off:

fly - title

Don’t you love all the butterfly pins? I stuck them into the paper and taped them down in the back with washi tape – thanks to Cathie for that great idea!

For my story starter this month I decided to do a canvas instead of a traditional LO:

you&me

Almost everything on this one came from a Studio Calico PL kit – don’t you love that big ampersand stamp? It looks amazing when embossed!

you&me - title

I also embossed the paper dolls (love the heart that their hands form) on the journaling tag:

you&me - tag

I tucked the tag behind the photo because 1. it’s what I normally do, and 2. since this a display piece I felt it was better hidden. There’s nothing very secretive written down there, just funny memories I have of the two of us since we were 6!

I finished it off by stamping the sides of the canvas so they wouldn’t be so bare when it was hanging on the wall:

you&me - edges

You really need to go check out the rest of the Design Team’s work if you haven’t already – they’ve done some beautiful work, as always!

Scrapbook Layout, Simple Scrapper, Sketch Templates

ssbloghop-2013

The story starters and templates were amazing this month! I love them every month but there was something special about this set that I really enjoyed. Maybe it’s because I got to have fun with one of Gabe’s crazy pics or maybe it’s because my Mom did the journaling for the other. Either way, this is a great month to be a member!

And we’re doing a giveaway so make sure you use the Rafflecopter widget below to enter for a one month trial membership at Simple Scrapper! This is an awesome way to test the waters if you’re not a member yet. There are three ways to enter and three winners will be selected. To be eligible, you must enter by 11:59pm CDT on Wednesday, May 8.

My first LO is from this month’s templates and uses one of Gabe’s crazy face pics.

crazy sock

Since the picture wasn’t the main theme of this LO – his funny quote was! – I chose to minimalize the photo and make the title/quote really stand out by using an Amy Tangerine Stitching template. I was iffy while making it (and it was a lot of work to be iffy about!) but I love how it turned out:

crazy sock - stitching

I used a bunch of layers to mat the photo and make a space for my journaling tag:

crazy sock - embellies

The second LO was inspired by one of this month’s Story Starters and my mom provided the journaling and the title:

mydaughter-herday

I used an awesome paper by Pink Paislee for this one – it’s a resist and when I misted it with some Heidi Swapp Color Shine the pattern popped and shimmered like crazy! I also used the mist on some Heidi Swapp hearts to get the same colour embellies with a different resist pattern, plus added enamel dots and glitter paper for more bling:

mydaughter-herday - layersI had some awesome glitter letters but they didn’t show up on the background so I tinted them with the Color Shine as well:

mydaughter-herday - title

And here’s my mom’s journaling – she was at home so I had to print it on the computer but I’m planning to get her to hand write it and add that to the LO:

mydaughter-herday - tag

Want some more inspiration? Check out the rest of the team – as always, they blew me away with their creations!

Blog Hop, Giveaway, Simple Scrapper, Sketch Templates

ssbloghop-2013The giveaway for this month’s Simple Scrapper blog hop is amazing! Really an awesome one to win so make sure you read all the way to the end to enter for your chance to win!

This month, I made two LO’s from the same sketch so you can see how versatile they are, and one LO from the Story Starters.

All the sketches were letter size, or 8.5 x 11, this month, a size I love! Here’s the first LO I made:

reading rocksThe kiddies love to have stories read to them and they always want to sit on the same sofa no matter who is doing the reading.

I added a little interest to this one with a punched edge and some stapled baker’s twine, a couple of my new favourite things to do!

reading rocks - punched edge

The second LO, as mentioned, is from the same sketch but I made a 12×12:

if you're happySeriously, same sketch! I love how flexible they are!

With this one, I layered a bunch of elements in the top corner and added metallic stitching:

if you're happy - bannersFinally, I did a LO based on one of the Story Starters. This is my brother Matthew and I when we were much younger – my best guess is that this pic was taken early 1979:

why hello thereCome on now, weren’t we the cutest?!?! 🙂

I added lots of dimension and texture here with both the layers of papers and the paint through the stencils:

why hello there - layers

Now, for the big giveaway!

ssbloghop-2013

Another month, another Simple Scrapper blog hop and giveaway! We’re doing the giveaway a little differently this month so make sure you scroll to the bottom of this post and use the Rafflecopter link below to enter a giveaway for a one month trial membership at Simple Scrapper. There are three ways to enter and three winners will be selected. To be eligible, you must enter by 11:59pm CST on Wednesday, March 6.

I used one of the Story Starters this month – the theme is Adventures – to make a mini album of Pirate Day on my dad’s boat a couple of summers ago.

The Pirate says Arr

Super quick and easy to do when using a kit and one template!

The Pirate says Arr - page 1-2

I gave a peek of this album on my guest post over at Simple Scrapper last week and you can check out all the inside pages over at 2peasinabucket.

The Pirate says Arr - page 5-6

For the template sketch, I made a letter size, interactive LO of Miss M who actually wanted me to take her picture for once!

strike a pose

Adding the additional pictures behind the top one allowed me to keep them all at a large 4×6 size while still keeping the LO fairly simple and uncluttered. Plus, there’s loads of space for journaling too!

strike a pose - flap two

Again, you can see additional pictures in my gallery over at 2peas.

Make sure you check out what the other design team members have done – they have some amazing LO’s this month! The list is below if you have lost your way or want to start at the beginning. And don’t forget to enter to win the giveaway!

Scrapbook Layout, Simple Scrapper

I’m the guest blogger over at Simple Scrapper today. This month the theme is Faster Scrapbooking and my post is all about my method to get a LO done fast.

As my friends can attest, I’m sloooooow so they’ve been amazed lately to see me pull together a completed project in an hour. And I’m going to tell you how I do it!

Go check it out and let me know what you think.

For these things, I am Grateful…

Blessed, Grateful, Mini Album, One Little Word, Simple Scrapper

casestrickland - front cover

I have never taken part in Ali Edwards’ One Little Word and had no intentions of doing so this year.

But then the word Blessed (and to a slightly lesser extent, Grateful) began following me around. Seriously, they just popped up everywhere! So I finally gave in and decided to see where One Little Word would lead me this year.

casestrickland - inside cover-page1

The reason I mention this now is that Simple Scrapper played a role in those words cropping up. First, I did a giveaway for the Home Blessings Class at Big Picture Classes and that came through Simple Scrapper. Second, Jennifer asked me to work on a new Gratitude mini album that debuted in the shop today.

See? Blessed and Grateful were definitely meant to be mine for 2013.  And that’s only two examples of how these words have infiltrated my life!

casestrickland - page 1 closeup

This mini album is going to be an ongoing project for me during 2013 and I’ll be sharing updates here and there as I add to it. It’s everything I’m grateful for and feel blessed to have from Signal Hill, to my kiddies, to teaching classes, and all the other things in between.

casestrickland - page 2-page 3

I’ve turned my book on its side since most of the pictures I take are landscape orientation. The problem is that many of the journaling cards are portrait so I’m having to be creative to make them work!

casestrickland - page 4-page 5

Check out the Flickr gallery to see more closeups of my pages, plus the albums some of the other DT members made. And then go get this kit – it’s a good one, and if you live outside the US, shipping is pretty reasonable, especially considering the price hike from USPS recently!

casestrickland - page 5 closeup

I love how easy and stressfree this album is – whenever I have a photo during the year of something I feel blessed to have in my life, I’ll simply tuck it into a pocket, add a precut journaling card and embellish if I want.

casestrickland - back coverI’d love to see what some of you make with this kit – whether you use it for One Little Word or to make a Gratitude Album, it’s bound to be a mini that really means something to you and aren’t those the projects we love to look through the most?

In other crafty news, I’m binding my Card Organizer this evening and will be back tomorrow with pics of it and the 4 cards we’ll be making on Saturday. Last time I checked, there was one spot left so hurry and call the Paperie if you want it! If you can’t wait until tomorrow to see what we’re doing, I’ve posted a couple of pics on Instagram and Twitter.

Giveaway, October Afternoon, Simple Scrapper, stickles, Studio Calico, Wood Veneer

ssbloghop-2013

It’s time for another Simple Scrapper blog hop with the Design Team and we’re showcasing the new February templates and/or Story Starters – as usual, Jennifer has outdone herself!

I used one of the Story Starters for my first LO. I had this picture of M during the first snowfall this year and it was perfect for this one:

remember this

Inspired by a Simple Scrapper Premium Member Story Starter; Template – Simple Scrapper Premium Member Template (April 2011); Patterned Paper – American Crafts, Fancy Pants, Vintage Book Paper; Transparency – Fancy Pants; Vellum, Wood Veneer – Studio Calico; Tag – Elle’s Studio; Metal Word Bands – Ranger; Stamp – American Crafts; Glitter Glue – Ranger; Stain – Ranger; Ink – Staz-on;  Adhesive – Ranger, Glue Arts; Sewing Machine – Singer

Instead of writing my own list of things for her to remember as she grows, I used the Tim Holtz Idea.ology Word Bands – the sentiments were perfect for this!

remember this - word bands closeupI rubbed a little bit of white paint over the words to make them stand out better and then handstitched them to the LO – they’re so heavy I wanted to make sure they would stay put!

I also used some October Afternoon chipboard to make custom purple glasses just like hers:

remember this - glossy closeup

I then coated those and the wood veneer words with Glossy Accents to make them pop.

Finally, I really wanted the snow to shine, so out came the Stickles and I added small dots to the flakes falling around her, as well as the wood veneer snowflakes:

remember this - stickles closeupLove the extra sparkle it gives the photo!

For my template LO this month, I pulled out a couple of photos of Mr. G that made me laugh. He’s beginning to hate getting his picture taken and his face in these is priceless!

grumpy boy

Template – Simple Scrapper Premium Member Template (February 2013, Letter #1); Patterned Paper – Crate Paper, Studio Calico; Card Stock – American Crafts; Fabric Stars, Wood Veneer – Studio Calico; Letter Stickers – American Crafts; Washi Tape – Freckled Fawn, American Crafts; Mist – Studio Calico; Punch – Jenni Bowlin for Fiskars; Stain, Ink – Ranger;  Stamp – American Crafts; Adhesive – Glue Arts; Thread – Coats; Sewing Machine – Singer; Kits – Studio Calico (Handmade, Story Hour)

I used one of my all time favourite alpha sets, which I misted and then sewed to the page – they’re not going anywhere!

grumpy boy - alphas

And I finished it all off with lots of stars – if Studio Calico ever discontinues those wood veneer stars I may cry!

And really loved discovering that the tiny star was a perfect fit for the tree top!

I used one of the new Story Starters for January and an older Premium Sketch to get another LO completed for my Book of Me:

Some awesome Evalicious badges on this one, great wood veneer Word Bubbles, and I only adhered the papers in the centre so there would be lots of dimension and layers:

Some handwritten journaling, a necessary component of a personal page, written with the erasable Pilot Frixon pen so I didn’t have to worry about mistakes!

…I’ve been asked to be a part of the Simple Scrapper Design Team!

See the badge over there? ————>  🙂

I’m super excited and can’t wait to get started with Jennifer and her team! As a little preview, here’s a new LO using one of the Premium Member Templates from December:

Say Cheese! - this life everyday

Super easy with a Paperie kit and Simple Scrapper sketch – I was done in no time! Seriously, I set up, scrapped, and cleaned away in less than an hour! Those of you who know me know that’s a miracle!

I stamped and popped up the “this” circle and stamped the words directly on the photo:

Say Cheese! - this life everyday closeup

I hope you’ll come join the fun over at Simple Scrapper and see what the rest of the Design Team and I do every month – they’re an awesome group of talented ladies!

Oh, and it’s definitely worth your while to stop back here tomorrow. There just may be a very awesome giveaway – hint, hint!
