Week in the Life

So yesterday was the midway point in this year’s Week in the Life Journey and, as is normal for me in all parts of my life, the midway point was the hardest. Wednesday’s are always the worst at bootcamp – I have no energy – and the same goes for this project. I took less pics than usual (though I still had tons!) and I wrote less on my daily sheets. I just hit a wall in the middle of things!

But today is a new day and it’s Halloween so I’m sure there will be too many pictures today to make up for yesterday!

Here are my favourites of the week so far:

On Monday my mom’s cousin sent her some old pics:

witl - monday1

My grandmother – Molly is named after her. She’s Molly Nora.

witl - monday2

My grandfather – the best man, best person I’ve ever known. He was truly one of a kind. So was my grandmother, they were two incredible people.

Tuesday, according to Gabe, was the worst day ever:

witl - tuesday

I love that he took a selfie while keeping the pout, ha!

Wednesday

witl - wednesday2Love it when she’s silly.

witl - wednesday1

Love it when he stays in his footie jammies all day – makes me feel like he’s still a baby. ๐Ÿ™‚

Thursday

witl - thursday2

Week in the Life has brought out some camera smiles with Molly – normally she’s a definite no to pics!

witl - thursday1

Would have missed this moment if not for WITL – I was waiting to take a pic of him going to school so had my camera when I normally wouldn’t have.

And that’s it so far. Three more days left and then putting it all together happens. I’m lucky to work from home so whenever I get a chance I upload and edit pics. I also add times and a few words to each one in Photoshop before printing. By the end of the night I have the day done and I send them off daily to be printed. It keeps them organized for me and I don’t feel overwhelmed at the end of the week. I just need to add some bits and bobs then and I call it done!

How is your week going? Let me know if you’re still snapping and writing!

Cheers!

S.

Week in the Life

It’s back! This is the week each year that I really look forward to and then kind of hate by the end! ๐Ÿ™‚ Also, my kids kind of hate it by the end too – having a camera in their face 24/7 gets to be a bit much.

If you don’t know what Week in the Life is all about, check out Ali Edwards – this is her baby.

I’ve done this the past two years and I can’t even explain how much I love the finished product. Going through those 6×8 albums and seeing all aspects of our days and lives for that week is amazing.

I’m kind of behind this year in that I have no prep done – usually my album is set up and I have an idea where I’ll go with it to finish. This year, well, I have some product pulled and we’ll have to see how it all comes together!

Here’s what I have so far:

witl - album

Simple Stories burlap chevron album in red

witl - paper

Bo Bunny, Simple Stories, and Shimelle papers (I also have old Halloween Scenic Route that I’ll use)

witl - stickers

Simple Stories alphas and stickers

witl - pouch

Sn@p pouch for bits and bobs (I used this last year and it was great!)

Plus lots of different page protectors so I can do whatever I want in terms of photos and the 6×8 daily sheets from Ali. I’m sure there will be lots more added as I go!

And that’s it. Pretty simple – you truly only need a camera of some kind and a place to stick pictures and journaling – Week in the Life doesn’t need to be, and shouldn’t be, complicated or about the product. In its essence, it’s a photo journal about the nitty gritty details of your life for one week.

Are you playing along? I’d love to see what you all are doing so let me know! Post a link in the comments so we can all go have a look.

P.S. My friend Cathie posted her WITL supplies this morning – go take a look!

Week in the Life, WITL

Every year, Ali Edwards does a weeklong, pretty intense project she calls Week in the Life. I took part last year and loved it.

This year The Paperie decided to get involved and some of the designers, instructors, and even the store owners took part. We had an information session where people could sign up to get daily email blasts with tips, tricks, photo prompts, and encouragement to keep going, and this Saturday we’ll be having an all day crop to get our albums put together.

Before that takes place, I thought I’d share my album cover and tell you what I’ve done with my pictures, in case you still needed to get yours printed!

As with most of the others designers involved, my initial concept has changed. Not surprising given the amount of photos I took each day! I am sticking with a little mixed media content and divided page protectors in a Simple Stories 6×8 Sn@p album – the orange one.

To be honest, when I altered the back of the album a couple of weeks ago, I wasn’t sold; I even considered getting a new one and leaving the chipboard cover as is.

I did like the large camera stamp and colours though:

So I did the front cover and suddenly it all seemed to fall into place:

I love the textures of the Distress Paint and Mist, layered with Modeling Paste:

The colours were chosen based on the Simple Stories Basics papers I’m using and I think this album is now going to work perfectly!

My photos are mainly 3×4 with a few 4×6 each day and there’s one 6×8 enlargement per day as well. My one complaint? The 6×8 page protectors are waaaaay bigger than 6×8 so I’m going to have to mount the photos on backer paper – I hate how they slide all over the place.

My smaller photos are all edited the same way: in Photoshop Elements 11 I resized each picture and then added text with the time and a short line about what was happening.

tuesday

My daily sheets will fill in the gaps and tell extra stories and all I’m planning to do on Saturday is add embellishments. All the photos are cropped and added to the page protectors already (this takes longer than you may think so if you can get this part done ahead of time it’s a great time saver for the crop!)

I’m stoked about Saturday and can’t wait to see what everyone is doing – I love how different this project can turn out! I already know the designers have different albums and sizes, plus Wendy will be doing hers in her PL album so there will be tons of inspiration this weekend for whatever style of WITL you’re scrapping!

I’m hoping to catch five minutes and have my final September Card Kit post up tomorrow with the mini album – be sure to stop back then for a look!

Week in the Life and 12 on Twelve | September 2013

12 on Twelve, Week in the Life, WITL

ae_bracket_promo_witl2013

So this year, Week in the Life with Ali Edwards falls in September. It’s this week, the 9th to the 15th. And that means 12 on Twelve falls right in the middle.

Since I’m documenting pretty much every second of our lives already, why would I still do 12 on Twelve?

Well, for me, they’re two separate albums – WITL is its own mini and 12 on Twelve is an 8×10 collage that I insert in my Keeping Track of Life (monthly PL) album. Although I had considered just running them together, I have decided to do both today – obviously I’m a crazy lady!

Of course, some pics will overlap but many won’t. For example, for 12 on Twelve I always take a selfie in the porch mirror; for WITL I take a daily full length pic. Also, some things I document for WITL are just not things I care about saving in my 12 on Twelve collage each month.

So tomorrow, I’ll post my regular monthly 12 on Twelve and later, once my mini album is completed, I’ll leave a link to the Flickr gallery where you can peruse the WITL pics, as if you need that detailed a look at my life! ๐Ÿ™‚

Check back later today, I’ll be posting my first two LO made with the new September Card kit from the Paperie!
