Back with another Simple Scrapper Show & Tell today! I hope you’re all enjoying the new way the Creative Team is sharing their work and that you get a chance to go check out what everyone else is doing. Also, don’t forget the CT Gallery each month – it’s always fabulous!

The Story Starter I used this month is one of my all time faves – and I’ll be doing another LO for Molly with it as well. Because I was waiting on product (I wanted to use the Bella Blvd. Molly line for Molly), I made Gabe’s LO first:

you-right now

I’ve been hoarding that text paper and the highlighted words were perfect for this!

I had some fun a traditionally girlie stencil – that I made work for a boy because, why not? – and molding paste:

you right now texture

And added hidden journaling, of course!

you right now journaling

The second LO features our pretties:

pretty girls

I don’t often get a chance to scrap them and I this template seemed to work with some recent pictures of them. The title is die cut and because the letter are small, I couldn’t use heavy chipboard. To get around that and get the thick look I wanted, I simply cut each letter from white cardstock three times and layered them on each other. I finished them off with Gold mist and a white Sharpie Paint Pen:

pretty girls title

The thing I love best about the Paint Pen is that it works for mixed media and over pictures as well!

pretty girls ella

Be sure to go see what the other CT girls did and add your own link for work you’ve done this month – we love seeing what everyone is working on!

Paperie Card Kit | March 2014: Part 1 – Layouts

Card Kit, Scrapbook Layout, The Paperie

Today over on the Paperie blog are all the projects I made with the March card kit – I got a lot of mileage out of this one! To make it easier and much shorter for you here, today will just be all about the layouts.

birthday girlI had fun stamping and heat embossing the balloons for this one – with a couple of layers of UTEE they look like real shiny balloons! I also stamped the stars in silver ink for a bit of subtle shimmer:

birthday girl silver stamping

Finally, I did some hidden jounalling – of course – and doodled the edges.

This next one is one of my fave pics of Molly – love how she got all dressed up for the backyard!

fashion star

I mounted the photo on a base of silver crackle paste over a stencil:

fashion star croco

And finally, I punched the alpha stickers with a 1/4″ square punch since I didn’t want the circle ones for this LO. It worked perfectly!

The last LO was totally fun to do:

moon&stars

I used Pearl Modeling Creme over a stencil, sprinkled it with glitter gold embossing powder, and then heated to set the powder and bubble the paste. It was all kinds of awesome. 🙂

I added lots of paper layers, made some epoxy stars with the Epiphany tool, and added my title with the gold rub-ons in the kit:

moon&stars rubon title

Go check out my Flickr gallery to see more pics and a few more details. I’ll be back later with another post today (!!!) and next week I’ll share the rest of my Card Kit projects!

Scrapbook Layout, Scrapbook Steals

Today over at the Scrapbook Steals blog it’s Midweek Mojo time again and it’s a fun one! One of the CT members, Jessica, designed the sketch and sent it to the rest of the team in case we wanted to play along – which we did, of course!

Here’s mine:

m5

I used a collection that you’ll see coming up over there on Friday so keep an eye out!

I had a ton of fun layering school themed items, since this is a pic of Molly’s first day of kindergarten. I have a pencil, a ruler, a chalkboard:

m5 school layersAnd then I layered papers, chipboard, and stickers:

m5 layers

Loads of fun, and it’s an awesome sketch – pop over and check out what the other girls have done. Maybe you should take some time to play along yourself and perhaps win a prize!

A little bit Distressed…

Classes, Distress Ink, Ranger, The Paperie

Do you have some favourite products that you sometimes forget about? Me too. And that thought, along with a conversation I had with my friend Rae Lynn, led to a new class at The Paperie which debuted Monday night!

The first in this bimonthly series was all about Distress Ink. I, like many people I know, have them all, love them all, but they have fallen to the side a little as fun new products come out. To renew the love I taught two layouts and 6 card fronts full of different techniques to get our Distress Ink mojo flowing again!

The first LO is basic blending with a bit of “spritz and flick” to add dimension:

sweet childI used buttons and paper strips for layers, dimension, and fun:

sweet child layersThe second LO was all about using Distress Ink in a watercolour-y way and I love how it turned out:

run my dearThe 6 card fronts used stencils, layering, water ghosting, faux watercolour, and ink blending. They were fun! To see them all, check out my Flickr stream.

ghosted and stamped imagesNext time we do a Renewed class it’s going to be all about Distress Paint so come join us and find out how much fun they can be!

show&tell

I am so excited to share my Creative Team work for this month – I had a blast with the templates and love how they turned out!

First, the Story Starter LO:

how do i love thee

Isn’t that fun? I’ve been hoarding that background paper from a Paperie Kit and forced myself to use it. I love the combination of sweet (hearts), vintage (doily), and distressed (paper edges).

how do i love thee doily

And that long title in alpha stickers with the journaling sideways was a fun switch up for me.

how do i love thee journaling

For the template only project I made a canvas for Gabe:

love you to jupiter

My favourite thing about canvases is the amazing texture and layers:

love you to jupiter texture

Every night when he goes to bed I say this to him:

love you to jupiter words

And he laughs like a loon! Crazy boy!

Make sure you check out the Show & Tell over at Simple Scrapper today and leave a link to your own work so we can all check it out!

YLA2013 | Wrapup

Mixed Media Layout, Yearlong Album, YLA2013

So this past Sunday I taught the final class of the 2013 Yearlong Album. It was bittersweet: I loved the class peeps and we had a blast getting messy and playing with mixed media this year but by this point in the process I’m a little tired of looking at the same paper and am excited and ready for the new year to start! We have some amazing new product ordered for 2014 and a new concept – exclusive sketches! If you want more details, or to sign up, contact The Paperie.

Onto the final LO’s….

This a was a jam packed class because we made 5, yes FIVE, LO’s! I was so impressed with everyone when we actually got them all done!

November was all about Primary Elements, medium transfer, Ultra Thick Embossing Enamel (UTEE), and Wendy Vecchi Translucent Embossing Paste:

November - wheee

I love the rugged, distressed look of the transferred frame.

November - glamour girl

And the paste over a stencil is fabulous. My favourite part though, is the shine and texture:

glamour girl - layers and texture

So cool!

The December LO’s had the fun element of used paper towel collage. It looks great as a background photo mat:

December - shine

And even better cut into shapes and used as embellishments:

December - twinkleSeriously, isn’t that colour and texture awesome?

twinkle - layersFinally, we did the last page of the album.

Final Page - it was good

I wanted to keep it simple and picture free but many people in the class added a pic and they looked great!

Most of the LO’s from past year are at my Flickr gallery under the Yearlong Album 2013 set. The ones that are missing are the couple of months where I didn’t finish adding pictures to the LO’s. I’m hoping to get those done in the next couple of weeks and then I’ll update the set with the completed album. In the meantime, enjoy the rest!

Paperie Card Kit | January 2014: Part 1

Layouts, Mini Album, The Paperie Card Kit

Ok, go get a coffee, or tea, or hot chocolate, or something – this post is full to the brim with pics so you may need sustenance to get through it! 🙂

It’s Card Kit release time at the Paperie again and Wendy has already shown the beautiful cards she designed with the kit.

I know I say it every time, but this might be my favourite kit yet! It definitely netted the most projects and it contains one of my favourite stamp sets ever! To give you an idea of how good this kit is, I made 4 – 8.5×11 LO’s, a card, a mini album, some lunchbox notes, and a canvas. I’d say that’s pretty good value for a $24.99 kit!

I did give you a sneak peek a few days ago with my Simple Scrapper LO’s so today I’m going to show you the other 2 LO’s and the mini album. I’ll be back soon with the rest but if you want to check it all out now go to the Paperie to see it in person or online at their blog.

The mini album was the first thing I made – as soon as I saw the metallic envelopes I knew I had to use and highlight them!

all you need is love

I did pull out some washi tape from a previous kit, and used a stencil with mist for the cover, but everything else is from the current kit, including the sequins, ribbon, and stamp for the album title:

all you need is love - shine

A fun note about the stamp – I heat embossed using a mixture of gold, silver, and glitter gold powder. The look in real life is very cool!

I kept it pretty simple with just a few words and washi, and the envelope pockets leave lots of room for extra Christmas pictures. I think this would be an awesome gift for a grandparent – small and easy to store with lots of photos!

all you need is love - joyFor this first LO I knew I had to use this out-take picture of Molly during our Christmas Card photo shoot. She’s so funny when she has to get her picture taken and it’s always a negotiation: “I’ll be good for two pictures if you’ll take this one.” And then she makes a crazy face or pose.

smilesI heat embossed the title again, printed the journaling on some of the included patterned paper, and scattered some sequins and doodles throughout:

smiles - titleThe only thing I added from outside the kit were those Basic Grey glitter enamel dots – I love them!

I did a little cluster at the top of the page with some more pieces I fussy cut:

smiles - topThe last LO I made was a bit outside the box – literally!

helloTo fit this in my regular album I’ll simply cut down a 12×12 page protector and sew it shut with the same metallic thread I used to adhere the flags:

hello - flagsSince this was my idea of an abstract tree, I didn’t want to add journaling to the “trunk” so I simply added the title to a circle with the small Studio Calico alphas and journaled around that:

hello - titleAnd that’s it – finally! 🙂 I hope you enjoyed and got a few ideas for yourself and I really recommend you call in to get this kit. Truly, even after all the projects I did, I still have enough paper to make more cards and LO’s! It’s really chock full this month.

See you soon with the rest!

Card Kit, Simple Scrapper

Long time, no write! 😃 I did plan to take a bit of a hiatus over Christmas but my computer unexpectedly died and I’m still waiting for a replacement. Right now I’m stealing time on my husband’s computer so I can post my Show & Tell Lo’s for Simple Scrapper’s January content. I’ll be back blogging regularly within the next week or so (fingers crossed!).

My Story Starter LO this month allowed me to reminisce a little and scrapbook a few of my favourite books. I loved being able to put these on a LO especially since it isn’t something I would normally do.

happy

I had fun playing with stencils and modelling paste, as well as adding more pictures using a flap design:

happy - open flap

My second LO features one of the pics I took of Molly and Gabe during our Christmas Card photo session:

you make me happy

I love the template I used for this one and it worked perfectly with the fence in the photo.

The shine from the silver and white embossing powder is great:

you make me happy - shine

And I had some fun with the modelling paste on the cloud too:

you make me happy - cloudMake sure to check out the Simple Scrapper blog and check out what the rest of the Creative Team has done as well as join in & post your own work – we love to see what you all do with the templates! Also, make sure you take a look at the Team Gallery – it’s pretty awesome this month!

Scrapbook Layout, Show & Tell, Simple Scrapper

The December templates and Story Starters for the Premium Members at Simple Scrapper are fantastic! I had so much fun – I even got to scrap one of my favourite old TV shows. 🙂

I know I’m not the only person out there who spent part of the summer watching The Facts of Life on Netflix – it was definitely my go-to show during July and August – so I was thrilled when one of the Story Starters inspired me to scrap my love for it, cheesy and dated as it may be!

you take the goodI loved the template and the fun paper shapes, plus all the layers:

you take the good - layersMy second LO was made with my favourite template this month – I’ll be using it again for sure – and features some recent pics of Molly modeling her new hat:

smileLots of shimmer on this one between the gold thread for stitching:

smile - goldand the Heidi Swapp ColorShine in gold and seafoam:

smile - shineI made both of these LO’s at the Paperie’s Fall Retreat using the exclusive kit they released that weekend and it’s amazing! They may still have a couple left, plus I know there are a few odd page and card kits floating around too if you’re looking for a great Christmas gift!

For some more great inspiration, go check out what the rest of the Team did this month – we’re all linked up for Show & Tell, plus our favourites are in the Team Gallery. Once you’ve enjoyed all the eye candy make sure to set some time aside for scrapping and link up your own creations – we’d love to see them!

Gelli Plate Printing |Guest Post: Karen

GelliPlate, Guest Post, Mixed media, Scrapbook Layout

I’m on vacation for a few days to visit my brother and his lovely (and pregnant!) wife. While I’m away some of my favourite local artists and bloggers have agreed to do posts for you! Today, Karen shares her newfound love of the Gelli Arts Gel Printing Plate. Enjoy!

I was honoured when Sara asked me to guest post for her blog while she is vacationing. Hope you are having a great time Sara!

Last week, I bought a Gelli Arts Gel Printing Plate and I have been having a blast learning and experimenting with different kinds of prints. I have created lots of fun backgrounds for art journal pages, but I was even more delighted when I realized the great backgrounds I could make for my scrapbook pages!

Today I am sharing my very first gel print scrapbook layout. Hooray!

For my print I used two colours of Silks Acrylic Glaze- Watermelon Mist and Carmen.

First I did a very simple layer of Watermelon Mist (pink). I just spread the glaze on the plate, put the paper on and pulled it off.

1

For my second layer, I spread on some Carmen (red). I pressed down a stencil and while the stencil was on the plate I used a roller dots stamp over the plate for extra texture.

2

Then I lifted the stencil before applying the paper.

3

Here’s what it looks like after the pull! Love it!

4

What a great base for a page right?! Next I chose some paper from the Simple Stories I {Heart} Summer line, which I just love, by the way. And once I added a few embellishments it was done.

5

So it’s official – I am in love with the Gelli Plate! How about you?!

Karen
