Christy Tomlinson, Cocoa Daisy, Dina Wakley, Elise Blaha Cripe, Julie Fei-Fan Balzer, October Afternoon, sketch

1. I’ve mentioned before that I’m not a huge fan of sketches, I just don’t find they work for me though I know a lot of people absolutely love them. That being said, this one from October Afternoon totally inspired me and I can’t wait to make a LO from it!

2. I love Dina Wakley‘s art. And this page is awesome.

3. I’m stoked to see this kit. I’m a huge fan of Julie Fei-Fan Balzer and she has designed an exclusive stamp and stencil for this – I. Can’t. Wait.

4. Elise Blaha Cripe is a super fun and talented blogger who designs stamps (along with doing a bunch of other things!) which she sells through her online stamp shop. There are so many I want but the “today is” stamp is on the top of my list. Sooooo many things I can add in that blank space!

5. By now, you should know of my love for Christy Tomlinson and the She Art workshops I’m taking online. She’s so much fun to listen to and watch and she now has all the free videos from her blog in one spot! These are worth the time to watch, trust me!

If you’re in the capital city area of NL, I hope you’re joining me at The Paperie tomorrow for crop night! Make sure you call them and sign up – always fabulous times!

Classes, ICAD, ICAD2, kindergarten, Printstagram, Project Life, The Crafter's Workshop, The Paperie

Yes, yes, I know it’s Friday (late on Friday!) but yesterday was a big day and it got away from me!

1. Miss M started school yesterday! There’s no pre-k here so it was truly her first day ever and she was uber excited!

Me, not so much… However, it hasn’t been as bad as I thought it would and she loves it!

2. I’m starting Project Life. Yup, today is the last day of week one for me and I’m still not sure how to go about organizing it all. Please help me! Anyone who is doing this or has done it, give me your best tips – the things you’ve learned that work well and the things you’d do differently next time. In order for me to do this, I’m going to need all the help I can get!

Already I’m overwhelmed with the amount of content for this week alone: long weekend at the cabin, school starting, swimming starting for G… Go ahead, ask how many pictures I’ve taken!

3. I’m doing a new class at The Paperie next week and it’s all about stencils! Better still, it’s all about clean and simple stencils! So, those of you who hate to get your hands dirty (I know who you are!) this will show you how to use this great tool without getting mist under your nails! 🙂

4. I’ve started in on the last 10 ICAD’s I have left to make. I promise a blog post on Monday for the next one on the list!

5. I’m considering getting some stuff done from Printstagram – has anyone used it? Thoughts? Shipping and quality good? What size do you like?

The tiny books look neat and I thought they might make fun gifts for the kiddies at Christmas!

Have a great weekend everyone!

Things on Thursday, Tutorials

1. I’ve started this online workshop by Christy Tomlinson and I’m *loving* it. Really so good – great videos, and tons of them, awesome PDF’s, and fabulous information. Have I mentioned that I love it? 🙂 I’m hoping to play a little this weekend and will post what comes out of it next week!

(Want to give Christy a “test run?” Check out this!)

2. This is a really neat idea for a canvas from October Afternoon. I never would have thought about putting the frame in the middle…. and I’ve done my fair share of canvases!

3. This is an awesome tutorial for a quick and fun back to school project. Simple enough that if you have kiddies they could help but cool enough to do for yourself – whether you’re in school or not! 🙂

4. Here’s another awesome one from October Afternoon. This one shows you step by step how to cluster embellishments so they look good – easier said than done! Love seeing how they build it all up!

5. Finally, this one is more artsy-craftsy in nature but come on people, rectangular snowmen? Love! I have plans for embellishing them a little more and if I actually have the time to do some, I’ll show you how they turn out!

1. How cute is this little mini album? Love October Afternoon, love minis, and I love the idea of the pockets in this one!

2. How’s this for a fun idea? Now sure I can go that deep into it – a canvas a week is pushing it for me, but I’m sure going to play along a little bit!

3.I really like these art journal pages by Ronda Palazzari and the technique with the embossing plates is going to be tried around here very soon!

4. The technique Jennifer uses for the sun in this card? Genius. And easy. She’s such a smarty pants! 🙂 She does the same thing for waves, love it!

5. And totally off the crafty list, the Olympics! Anyone else loving them as much as me? The male gymnasts? No better athletes in the world, there can’t be… I love these couple of weeks every 4 years and this year, I have an almost 5 year old loving the gymnastics part right along with me! 🙂

CHA, CHA-S, Dyan Reaveley, Dylusions, Ranger, Studio Calico, The Crafter's Workshop, Tim Holtz

First, a little note: I know I’ve been posting a little less here – summer is busy! If you want to see more, I post pics and life bits on Twitter and Instagram (I’m saracees), follow me there! That’s also where you’ll find sneak peeks of upcoming classes! 😉

So CHA-S (Craft and Hobby Association, Summer 2012) is over and the companies in the crafting industry released their new product, focusing mostly on Halloween and Christmas. Here are some my faves of the new goodies!

1. Dyan Reaveley – Dylusions for Ranger

You know I love Ranger and you know I love the Dylusions line. The new Christmas stuff coming out is no exception. Top of my list is this sentiment stamp set – hilarious!

2. Tim Holtz – Ranger

Finally! Rock Candy Distress Stickles in a big jar with a brush! YAY!!!!

3. Studio Calico

A new collection for SC is Yearbook. And they have polaroid frames. These will be mine!

4. Dyan Reaveley – Dylusions for Ranger

OK, so I know I said the sentiments were top of my list but this is fighting for first place too! 🙂

5. The Crafter’s Workshop

I can’t narrow these down. With new designs from Julie Fei-Fan Balzer, Dina Wakeley, Karen Ellis, and Jaime Echt, there are more stencils than I could hope for. And I want them all! The Bug Doily makes me laugh, and I need the Whimsical Vines, and the Spilled Hearts are awesome!

Trust me, these aren’t the only things on my want/need list – but it’s a good start!

Leave a comment letting me know what you love and need from the new releases, I have no problem adding to my list! 🙂

Canada Day, capelin, Family, kiddies

1. The Canada Day long weekend was fabulous. Truly. I’m used to having RDF for Canada Day due to capelin weather so the sun and high temps were a welcome change!

And now I can picture some of you saying, “RDF? Capelin weather? What?” 🙂

RDF is rain, drizzle, and fog and we usually get lots of it late June and early July. We call it capelin weather because that cool, overcast weather is what causes the capelin to roll. Capelin are little fish, good to eat but tedious because of all the bones, that roll in from the ocean onto the beaches to spawn. With all those little fish rolling in, the whales come too, chasing food. It’s fun times and the beaches are swarming with people catching dinner!

D took the kiddies out a couple of weekends ago to Middle Cove Beach. M thought they were “disgusting” and wouldn’t touch them (ha!) but G picked up as many as he could and threw them back in, dead or alive!

2. As I sit here typing this I’m hearing a wonderful sound for the first time this year – the ice cream truck! When we moved in 5 years ago and I was very pregnant  with M, I was beyond thrilled to see it and must have looked like a lunatic skipping out to the truck with my enormous belly!

3. Last weekend we went to Central NL and spent the weekend at my in-laws cabin on the lake. This weekend my best and oldest friend (we met when we were 6 and have been together ever since!) are taking the kiddies to my family’s cabin on the beach. The weather is calling for rain, boo, but we’re going regardless. And darn it, we will have fun and we will play on the beach!

This pic is from last year, G is missing though he did go and you can see the craziness we get up to. Crimping iron, anyone?

4. We recently discovered that a little girl just a year older than M is our backyard neighbour. Since her dad is redoing the fence we’ve been talking and have all decided to put in a gate. This means easy access for the two girls and a lot less whining filling my day! For the other girl’s dad, who works nights, it means a little uninterrupted sleep during the day while she plays with and entertains M. A win-win in my book!

5. We had a special visitor today. A few of my girlfriends and I placed a Simon Says Stamp order and Krista showed up this morning to pick up her stuff. And she brought Eugene, her 6 month old cocker spaniel. To say he was a hit with the kids and vice versa is an understatement! They were all wired up to say the least, and I imagine Eugene slept most of the afternoon away! We’re hoping for a return visit soon so he can play in the sprinkler! 🙂

6. As you all know, I’ve been doing an Index Card A Day. One of the women in the Flickr group does the most incredible doodles and did this one of the American Flag. I loved it and commented that she should do a Canadian one for me – and she did, right in time for Canada Day! Isn’t it amazing?

Dylusions Ink Sprays, Flickr, ICAD, Online Card Classes, Paperie, Ranger, Tim Holtz

… oh well, that’s just how it goes sometimes, right? 🙂

1. I just signed up for this. Love the idea of a cute finished sampler and for $10 it’s a steal! I believe this discounted price (regular cost is $20) expires today so jump on it if you want to join in!

2. Looking forward to this online class as well – Online Card Classes have the best instructors, videos, and samples so I know it’s going to be a good one!

3. I am still really, really loving Index Card A Day (ICAD). 21 days in and I’ve done a card everyday – no catchup needed….yet! I love just getting to play and try new things and I love the size of the canvas. If you haven’t played along you can start anytime, no pressure. And the Flickr group is full of inspiration and amazing cards. I have to say thanks to Tammy for all the work she does organizing this and keeping everyone motivated – she rocks!

P.S. You can see all my ICAD posts here and all my cards (and M’s cards) here.

4. Saw this quote on the Big Picture Classes homepage today and thought it was perfect for those friends of mine doing Project Life. Most of them are at the point of playing catchup and figuring out how to stay caught up during the summer. Here you go ladies! 😉

“The sooner you fall behind, the more time you’ll have to catch up.”   – Anonymous

5. Tim Holtz and Ranger just released the Summer Seasonal Distress Inks and I’m a happy camper! They are super bright and when you blend the Salty Ocean and Picked Raspberry together, they make the best purple ever! Check out my ICAD from yesterday to see…

6. I have another 2012 Yearlong Album Class this weekend and we’ll being doing the next two months. Here’s a sneak of July!

For the 20 ladies joining me, no extra supplies are needed but bring a snack! 🙂

7. I have a blog post going live on The Paperie website today; my pick are Dylusions Ink Sprays! Here’s a snippet of the finished LO you’ll see over there!

8. Having dinner and a fire with my dad tonight and there will be extra little kiddies for mine to play with – fun!

Have a great weekend!

Coca-Cola, Flickr Gallery, ICAD, Index Card A Day, Kiddies, Paperie

1. I’m still loving Index Card A Day, which I’m sure you’ve picked up on! You can start any time with no pressure to catch up – I think Anne and Graham would do awesome stuff with this… 🙂

M has done the last couple of days with me and her cards are getting rave reviews in the Flickr Gallery!

2. I am not a cola fan. As a matter of fact, I am not a soft drink fan. Or a caffeine fan. I digress!

I am not a cola fan, but…this is pretty awesome!

3. G spent part of the day like this:

yelling, “3, 4, 6, 8! 3, 4, 6, 8!” I’m pretty sure he meant 2, 4, 6, 8 but hey, it’s close for a 3-year-old! And don’t ask about the bowl, I guess it was necessary for a counting Superman wannabe! Sorry for the very blurry pic, he thought it was a fun game to run whenever I picked up the camera!

4. I spent part of today making tags for this class and discovering a fun new technique – I can’t wait to share! If you have Distress Markers, or want to know more about them, come to The Paperie on Wednesday for 10 technique tags – it’s going to be fun!

Sneak Peek!

5. I bought 4 of these for the kiddies today – M wants the bunny but I couldn’t find it and got tired of feeling up the packages! 🙂 If anyone finds one and wants to pass it along, that would be awesome!

Check later this evening for a new ICAD, including one by Miss M!

Art Journal, Kiddies, Things on Thursday

1. Remember my Art Journal cover?

Well I coloured it… and really didn’t like it (note to self: Coarse Moulding Paste looks cools before colour but not so cool after misting) so I gessoed over the whole thing again:

And I really like how the mist colours popped through a bit, so much so that I almost left it just like that! But I didn’t and this is what I have now:

I still left the colours really muted but I love the additional layers of stamps and stencils.

Awesome texture and dimension! Now, to open it up and get to work!

2. Excited to start ICAD tomorrow – I’ve already had a few people ask if they can join in with us – hey, the more the merrier! I can’t wait to see what you all do! It’s going to be fun having a bunch of friends in town and online doing this together! Make sure you join the Flickr group too, to see what everyone else doing.

And I’ve just seen that Tammy, the woman who started all this, has daily prompts! So if you’ve been on the fence, thinking you’re not creative or wouldn’t know what to do, now she gives you a starting point! Why are you still waffling? Go buy your index cards and join the fun!

3. Just booked tickets for M and I to go visit P, her friend I used to care for. Lately, M has been pretty wretched and everytime she cries she says she misses P and why won’t she come play anymore? Not that easy to explain to a four year old how far New Brunswick is from Newfoundland so now we’re going there to play with her! Yay!

buddies

4. I’m excited about the class Cathie and I are teaching on Sunday! It’s the first Designer Duo class and I really want it to go well because I have plans for more of these! Two different instructors with different styles, using the same product? Fun times ensue, my friends!

Here’s my sneak peek again:

And here’s a tiny snippet from Cathie:

Doesn’t hers look awesome?!? There’s still time to sign up, or get a kit with full pics and instructions. Just call Meghan at The Paperie and she’ll hook you up!

5. I have a half day off tomorrow! Lots of errands to run but I actually get to do them alone since my mom is taking my kiddies for the afternoon – so exciting for me, I may not know how to handle it! 🙂

Have a great one tomorrow, enjoy the start of June and good luck with your index cards! Make sure you let me know what you have done so I can see them!

Pinterest, techniques, Tutorials

If you have read my blog for any length of time at all (like this week!) you know how much I love a good technique. Combine it with a great tutorial and I’m sold! So today, I thought I’d give you a list of links to a few fun ones I have pinned on my Pinterest boards:

1. Who doesn’t love a good transfer technique? This is different from the one I did a while back but still super simple – it just takes a little longer due to the drying time required.

2. A good brooch never goes astray and always makes an awesome add-on gift or end-of-year teacher present. Love how simple this one is and that you could make it as fun or as dressy as you like – simply switch out the colours and fabric. Felt would be awesome for a winter coat!

3. Who doesn’t own a boat load of baker’s twine? That’s what I thought! Here’s a great way to use some and make super cute cards, embellishments, or tags.

4. This ornament is beautiful in felt and would look great as a Christmas ornament or to hang for everyday. Use paper and make fun party decorations! Or put a bunch together to make some front door decor.

5. Easy, pretty, and a really good bang for your buck, making your own coasters is simple and a gift anyone can use. They can even double as paperweights!

And here’s a bonus one:

6. 3D stars! These could be embellies, home decor, party decorations, tree ornaments…

Let me know if you make anything, I always love seeing how people go in different directions with the same starting point!
